NETGEAR WAX610 Dual Band Insight Managed WiFi 6 AX1800 Access Point Installation Guide
Model WAX610
Package Contents
The package includes:
- NETGEAR WAX610 Access Point
- Mounting bracket with screw holes for ceiling or 23.8 mm T-bar mounting
- Mounting bracket without screw holes for 14.3 mm T-bar mounting
- Two screws and anchors for wall or ceiling mounting
Note: Depending on the product ordered, a power adapter may not be included in the package. The access point is powered by connecting to a PoE+ switch. Alternatively, an optional power adapter can be ordered.
Installation Options
The access point can be installed on a solid surface (wall or ceiling), mounted to a 14.3 mm or 23.8 mm T-bar ceiling mount, or placed on a flat surface.
It is recommended to use a flat Ethernet cable to ensure it fits easily in the tight space between the access point and the surface it is installed on or placed on.
Wall Mounting
The bottom of the access point has two holes for mounting the access point with two mounting screws inserted into the wall.
- On the wall, mark the screw and anchor locations, which should be 98.5 mm apart. Insert the anchors and screws.
- Leave the screws protruding about 6 mm from the wall so you can insert them into the access point's bottom panel holes.
- Align the access point's bottom panel holes with the screws in the wall and attach the access point to the wall.
Ceiling Mounting
- Using the provided anchors and screws, attach the 23.8 mm bracket to the screw holes on the ceiling. The protruding rectangular part of the bracket should face the ceiling.
- Hold the access point upside down with the front facing the bracket. Align the grooves on the bottom panel of the access point with the bracket.
- Slide the access point into the bracket until it snaps into place. The locking tab should be at the front of the access point.
Note: To release the access point, push the locking tab towards the ceiling and pull the access point out of the bracket.
T-bar Mounting
- Depending on the T-bar size, slide the 14.3 mm or 23.8 mm bracket between the guides on the bottom panel of the access point until it snaps into place. The locking tab should be at the front of the access point.
- Hold the access point upside down. Note: If you can reach the back of the T-bar, hold the T-bar with one hand and the access point with the other.
- Align the protruding rectangular part of the bracket with the T-bar.
- Hook the bracket onto one side of the T-bar.
- Hook the bracket onto the other side of the T-bar until the bracket locks into place on the T-bar.
Connecting the Access Point to a PoE+ Switch
Power the access point by connecting the LAN/PoE+ port to a PoE+ switch that provides power via 802.3at (PoE+) technology.
The LAN/PoE+ port supports Ethernet speeds up to 2.5 Gbps. The following figure shows a NETGEAR MS510TXPP switch that supports 2.5 Gbps or higher speeds. However, if your Internet connection, modem, and switch support 1 Gbps speeds (a common speed), the access point's LAN connection will function at 1 Gbps.
The access point receives an IP address from a DHCP server (or a router functioning as a DHCP server) on the network. If the network does not include a DHCP server, the access point uses the default IP address: 192.168.0.100.
LED Status
- Power/Cloud LED:
- Solid Green: The access point has booted up and is operating as a standalone access point or as an Insight-discovered access point not connected to the Insight cloud management platform.
- Solid Blue: The access point is operating in Insight mode and is connected to the Insight cloud management platform.
- LAN LED:
- Solid Green: The LAN port detects a 2.5 Gbps speed.
- Solid Orange: The LAN port detects a speed lower than 2.5 Gbps, such as 1 Gbps (common speed).
- WLAN 2.4 GHz LED:
- Solid Green: The 2.4 GHz radio is functioning in the unit, with no clients.
- WLAN 5 GHz LED:
- Solid Green: The 5 GHz radio is functioning in the unit, with no clients.

Configuring the Access Point via NETGEAR Insight
Ensure the switch to which the access point is connected is connected to the Internet.
- On your device, connect to the access point's default network name (SSID). The default SSID is listed on the label on the bottom panel of the access point and is displayed in the format NETGEARxxxxxx-SETUP, where "xxxxxx" indicates the last six hexadecimal digits of the access point's MAC address. The default password is sharedsecret.
- Open the NETGEAR Insight app.
- Enter your Insight account email address and password, then tap LOG IN.
In most cases, Insight automatically discovers the access point. This process may take a few minutes.
- Select the access point and tap Next. You will be prompted to add the access point to an Insight network location.
- Create a new network location, tap Next, then tap OK. The device administrator password you enter for the new network location will replace the existing administrator password on all devices added to the network location.
The Insight network location is now set up, and the access point is added to the network location.
- If prompted, assign a name to the access point and tap Next. The access point will automatically update to the latest Insight firmware. This operation may take up to 10 minutes, during which the access point may reboot.
When the process is complete, the access point is an Insight-managed device connected to the Insight cloud management platform. The Power/Cloud LED, which was solid green, will now be solid blue.
- Use the Insight app to configure and manage the access point.
