Overview
The WAX214 is a dual-band WiFi 6 access point that supports Power over Ethernet (PoE).
LED Indicators:
- Power: Solid orange when the access point is powered on.
- LAN: Solid blue when the LAN port detects a connection; Blinking blue when transmitting or receiving data.
- 2.4 GHz WLAN: Solid blue when the radio is operating without clients; Blinking blue when transmitting or receiving data.

Step 1: Connect the WAX214
Connect the WAX214 to a PoE switch that provides 802.3af (PoE) power and 1 Gbps Ethernet speed. Alternatively, you can power the WAX214 using a 12V DC adapter (sold separately).
Diagram Description: A diagram shows the WAX214 connected to a NETGEAR GS310TP PoE switch, which is then connected to a router and the internet. WiFi clients are shown connecting wirelessly to the access point.
Step 2: Access the WiFi Management Network
When you first connect the WAX214, a management WiFi network (SSID) will be active. Connect to this network using a WiFi-enabled computer to perform the initial configuration.
- Open the WiFi utility on your computer.
- Find and select the WAX214 management SSID. The default name is printed on the WAX214 label (e.g., "WAX214XXXXXX-CONFIG-ONLY").
- Enter the default password printed on the WAX214 label.
Note: For security, the management SSID disconnects after 15 minutes of inactivity. If this happens during setup, press the Reset button for 20 seconds to restore factory defaults.
Step 3: Log in to the Local Browser UI
- Open a web browser and enter
https://www.aplogin.net
(orhttps://192.168.0.100
) in the address bar. - Set a new local device password and configure the primary SSID name and WiFi passphrase.
- Accept the NETGEAR terms and conditions.
- Click the Apply button to save your settings.
- Log in again using the new local device password to access and manage the WAX214 configuration settings.
Note: Your browser might display a security warning, which you can ignore. For more information, visit https://kb.netgear.com/000062980/
.
Step 4: Connect to the Internet and Update Firmware
It is recommended to update the WAX214 to the latest firmware before use.
- Connect your WiFi computer to the primary SSID of the WAX214 using the WiFi passphrase you set.
- Visit
netgear.com/support/download
, enter the model number, and check for new firmware. Download the firmware file if available. - Open a web browser and go to
https://192.168.0.100
. - In System Manager, navigate to Firmware to view the current firmware version.
- In the Firmware Upgrade section, click Choose File, select the downloaded firmware file, and click Upload.
Warning: Do not interrupt the firmware update process to avoid corrupting the firmware. After the update is complete, reconnect to the primary SSID.
Mounting Options
The access point can be mounted on a solid surface (wall or ceiling), a T-bar ceiling, or placed on a flat surface without a bracket.
Mounting on a Solid Wall
Use the two holes on the bottom of the access point to mount it to screws inserted into the wall. Mark the wall for screw placement (98.5 mm or 3.875 inches apart) and insert the provided anchors and screws, leaving about 6 mm (0.25 inches) of the screws protruding.
Diagram Description: Shows marking the wall, inserting anchors and screws, and then attaching the access point to the screws.
Mounting on a T-bar Ceiling
- Slide the 23.8 mm (15/16 in.) bracket onto the bottom of the access point until it clicks. The locking tab should be at the front.
- Hold the access point with the bracket against the T-bar and align the bracket with the T-bar.
- Secure the bracket to the T-bar on both sides until it clicks.
Diagram Description: Shows attaching the bracket to the access point, then attaching the bracket to the T-bar ceiling mount.
Mounting on a Solid Ceiling
- Using the provided anchors and screws, fix the 23.8 mm (15/16 in.) bracket to the ceiling with the screw holes facing the ceiling.
- Hold the access point upside down, align the slots on the bottom of the access point with the bracket, and slide the access point onto the bracket until it clicks. The locking tab should be at the front.
Diagram Description: Shows attaching the bracket to the ceiling, then attaching the access point to the bracket.
Note: To release the access point, push the locking tab towards the ceiling and slide the access point off the bracket.
