Model: 2093
Vehicle: Renault Espace V (04/'15-)
Manufacturer: GDW
Important Advice
Montage (Installation)
- Before starting, check the tow bar for any transport damage.
- Carefully read and follow all instructions in this manual.
- Present the tow bar under the vehicle before making any permanent attachments.
- When drilling holes, ensure no wires or brake lines are damaged. Remove any soundproofing or bitumen material. Treat drilled holes and chassis parts with an anti-corrosive product.
- If the vehicle has non-standard bumpers (e.g., special series, sport, tuning parts), consult GDW's technical service to ensure compatibility and correct fitment.
- The tow bar supplied may be pre-assembled for storage; disassemble parts as needed for installation.
Garantie (Warranty)
- To determine the correct towing weight for your vehicle, refer to the Certificate of Conformity (COC) or contact your vehicle dealer. Do not exceed the tow bar's specifications.
- The tow bar must be checked after the first 1,000 km of use and at least once annually.
- Check all bolted connections and retighten if necessary.
- Repair any damage to the paint finish.
- Replace any components that have been damaged due to an accident or collision.
- Grease the internal parts of detachable tow bar systems.
Gebruik / Utilisation / Use
- If the tow ball obstructs the license plate or fog light, it is mandatory to remove the tow ball when it is not in use.
Technical Specifications
Towing Weights
To determine the maximum towing weight your vehicle can handle, consult the Certificate of Conformity (COC) or your vehicle dealer. The tow bar's specifications must not be exceeded.
D-Value: Calculated as (max. trailer weight * max. vehicle weight) / 0.00981, must be less than or equal to 11.0 kN.
S-Value (Vertical Load): Maximum 100 kg.
Maximum Trailer Weight: 2000 kg.
Torque Values
Bolt Size | Torque (Nm) for Grade 8.8 | Torque (Nm) for Grade 10.9 | Torque (Nm) for Grade 12.9 |
---|---|---|---|
M6 | 11.3 | 16.5 | 19.3 |
M8 | 27.3 | 40.1 | 46.9 |
M10 | 54.0 | 79.0 | 93.0 |
M12 | 57.0 | 83.0 | 98.0 |
M14 | 93.0 | 137.0 | 160.0 |
M16 | 230.0 | 320.0 | 395.0 |
Note: Torque values are provided for common bolt grades. Always use the correct torque setting specified for your hardware.

Installation Steps
The following steps outline the general process for installing the tow bar. Refer to the diagrams for specific details on fastener locations and part orientation.
Preparation and Bumper Removal
Steps 1-6: Begin by accessing the rear of the vehicle. This involves opening the tailgate and potentially removing rear bumper sections and interior trim panels. Arrows in the diagrams indicate areas to access and fasteners to remove, often using a TX20 tool.
Chassis and Bracket Mounting
Steps 7-12: Remove side trim panels near the rear wheel arches. Position the main tow bar frame (Part 1) and associated chassis mounting brackets (e.g., Part 4) onto the vehicle's frame. Secure these components using the specified bolts, nuts, and washers, ensuring they are correctly oriented.
Tow Bar Frame Attachment
Steps 13-14: Attach the main tow bar frame to the previously mounted chassis brackets. Use the appropriate bolts (e.g., 9, 8, 6) and nuts, tightening them to the specified torque values.
Side Bracket and Tow Ball Mechanism Installation
Steps 15-19: Mount the side support brackets to the tow bar frame and vehicle chassis. Assemble and attach the tow ball housing and mechanism (e.g., GDW REF. 908.064) to the main tow bar frame using the provided hardware (e.g., bolts C, nuts D, washers A, E).
Final Tow Ball Assembly
Steps 20-22: Attach the tow ball (e.g., Part A) to the mechanism. Ensure all fasteners are securely tightened according to the torque specifications. The final steps involve securing the tow ball assembly, potentially with specific bolts and nuts (e.g., GDW REF. 900.053).
Clearance and Weight Specifications
Diagram on Page 20: This diagram illustrates the required clearance angles (alpha and beta) and dimensions for the tow ball assembly relative to the vehicle. These clearances must be maintained as per regulation nr. 55. The diagram also relates these specifications to the vehicle's permissible total weight for towing.
Clearance Dimensions:
- Angle α: Minimum 30°, Maximum 45°
- Angle β: Minimum 30°, Maximum 45°
- Various minimum and maximum dimensions are specified for the tow ball and its mounting points (e.g., 100mm max, 65mm min, 32mm min, 140mm min, 250mm max, 55mm min).
