Installation and Usage

3.1 Memory Card Installation

Insert a Micro SD card (32GB-512GB, U3/Class10/A2 recommended) into the slot until it clicks. If the device prompts for a memory card error, format the card via the system settings menu. Ensure the card is functioning correctly; use a high-speed card and format it monthly. Do not remove the card during recording.

3.2 Installing the Dash Cam

  1. Install the Bracket: Slide the bracket onto the dash cam's mounting interface until secure.
  2. Install the Car Charger: Plug the car charger into the vehicle's cigarette lighter socket.
  3. Determine Installation Position: Power on the S1 Pro and check the front camera's view to ensure optimal placement on the windshield.
  4. Install Electrostatic Sticker: Clean the windshield, apply the electrostatic sticker, then mount the dash cam bracket onto the sticker. This prevents leaving residue on the glass.
  5. Mount the S1 Pro Unit: Remove the protective film from the bracket and attach it to the electrostatic sticker.
  6. Install the Rear Camera: With the S1 Pro powered on, position the rear camera on the inside of the rear windshield, avoiding defogging lines. Clean the lens with the provided dust-free cloth.
  7. Cable Management: Route the car charger cable and rear camera cable neatly along the car's interior trim using the provided pry tool. Ensure cables are secured and do not obstruct the driver's view.

Wi-Fi Connection

The S1 Pro's Wi-Fi is enabled by default upon startup. You can reconnect via a shortcut key, voice control, or the menu. To connect to your smartphone:

  1. Open the Vantrue app and tap 'Add Device'.
  2. Select the 'Sonnet Series' and then 'S1 Pro'.
  3. Confirm the Wi-Fi name and tap 'Connect'.

[Screenshots of the Vantrue app for Wi-Fi connection]

Note: Connecting via Wi-Fi allows for live preview, settings adjustment, file download (0 data usage), and video playback. GPS track playback and video sharing require an internet connection (Wi-Fi may need to be turned off for these features).

Important: Ensure your phone's Wi-Fi is enabled. The default Wi-Fi password is 12345678. For security, it is highly recommended to change the initial password after the first login. If the password is forgotten, a factory reset will restore it.

Vantrue App Usage

Once connected, the Vantrue app provides several functionalities:

  • Video Preview: View live footage from the dash cam. Tap the full-screen icon or rotate your phone to enter full-screen mode. Switch between front and rear camera views if applicable.
  • Video Playback: Browse and play recorded videos and photos stored on the SD card.
  • Video Download: Download videos and photos to your phone. Downloaded videos can be played back with GPS track information in the app's local files.
  • Snapshot: Capture still images from the live preview.
  • Mileage Statistics: Download driving data (mileage, duration, speed, altitude) as PDF or JPG files.
  • Lens Calibration Line: Use crosshair lines to calibrate the camera's balance for straight recordings.
  • OTA Upgrade: Update the dash cam's firmware remotely via the app. Refer to section 4.2.12 for details.

Firmware Upgrades

There are two methods for upgrading the S1 Pro's firmware:

  • File Upgrade: Download the latest software from the VANTRUE official website, copy it to the root directory of the Micro SD card, insert the card into the dash cam, and power it on for the upgrade.
  • OTA Upgrade: When a new firmware version is available, the Vantrue app will notify you. Follow the app's prompts to download and install the update.

Upgrade Precautions:

  • Ensure the S1 Pro dash cam remains powered on during the upgrade process.
  • OTA upgrades require mobile data usage.
  • For file upgrades, format the SD card on the dash cam before copying the firmware file.

  • Low Bitrate Recording: Records at a lower resolution (e.g., 720P) and frame rate (e.g., 15FPS) to save storage space, primarily used in parking modes.
  • Low Frame Rate Recording: Records at very low frame rates (e.g., 1FPS) for extended parking surveillance, compressing footage to save space.
  • Mileage Statistics: The app can export detailed driving statistics, including distance, duration, average speed, and altitude, via GPS data.
