Button Instruction
The dash cam has several buttons for operation:
- Button 1 (Power/Capture): In power-on status, long press to turn off the dash cam. In power-off status, short press to turn on the dash cam. During video recording, short press to capture a picture. In playback mode, short press to pop up the delete Menu.
- Button 2 (Record/Confirm): During video recording, short press to start/stop recording. In menu settings, short press to confirm the action. In playback mode, short press to play/pause the file.
- Button 3 (Switch/Forward): During video recording, short press to switch the video window. In menu settings and file browsing, short press to display the previous option, long press to scroll up to display options. In playback mode, short press to fast forward.
- Button 4 (Parking/Mic): During video recording, long press to quickly enter parking mode. Short press to turn on/off the microphone. In menu settings and file browsing, short press to display the next option, long press to scroll down to display options. In playback mode, short press to pop up the delete file menu.
- Button 5 (WiFi): In recording mode, long press to turn on/off WiFi. In menu settings and file browsing, short press to return to the previous interface.
- Button 6 (RESET): Short press to force reset the device.
LED Indicator:
- Steady Green Light: In standby status
- Blinking Green Light: Camera is recording
Screen Overview
The screen displays various indicators:
- Voice Assistant: ON/OFF
- IR LED: AUTO ON/OFF, ON, OFF

3. Installation
3.1 Installing a Memory Card
Use a Vantrue U3 High-speed MicroSD Card (32GB-512GB, U3/Class10/A2 recommended). Insert the card until it clicks. If prompted to format, press the [OK] button, navigate to System Setup, and select 'Format'.
Note:
- Format the microSD card monthly for optimal performance and lifespan.
- Do not remove the card while the camera is recording to prevent data loss.
3.2.1 Installation of Camera Mount
Align the mount with the dash cam interface and push until it clicks into place.
3.2.2 Car Charger Installation
Connect the car charger to the cigarette lighter and the Type-C port on the front camera mount. Start the ignition.
3.2.3 Power On Dash Cam, Select Installation Position
Power on the dash cam and check the shooting angles of the front and interior lenses through the recording view.
3.2.4 Installing the Electrostatic Stickers
Clean the windshield with water or alcohol, then wipe dry. Stick the electrostatic sticker next to the rear-view mirror to avoid blocking your view. The stickers have two protective films; apply film #1 first, then remove film #2 after placement.
3.2.5 Installing The Front Camera
Remove the protective film from the mount, then attach the mount and camera to the electrostatic sticker. Applying bracket adhesion promoter is recommended for a firmer installation.
3.2.6 Rear Camera Installation
Select a position on the rear windshield. Remove protective films from the sticky pad and rear camera lens. Fix the camera, adjust the angle, and connect it to the main front camera using the rear camera cable.
Notes:
- Avoid defogging lines on the rear windshield.
- Clean the lens with the provided dust-free cloth.
- Refer to screen printing for correct rear camera mounting.
- The rear cabin lens has a red light indicator. Install it facing the user.
- Front cabin camera: adjustable 45° up/down.
- Rear camera: adjustable 45° up/down.
- Rear cabin camera: adjustable 65° up/down.
3.2.7 Wire Storage
Car Charger Cable: Use the crowbar to tuck the cable under the A-pillar and windshield rubber seal.
Rear Camera Cable: Carefully route the cable as shown in the diagram.
3.3 APP Download
Scan the QR codes to download the Vantrue APP for your smartphone. After connecting via WiFi, you can preview video, change settings, download files, and play back videos. GPS track playback and video sharing require an internet connection.
3.4 Wifi Connection
The dash cam's WiFi turns on automatically for 10 minutes. You can reopen it via shortcut keys, voice control, or menus. Connect to the dash cam's WiFi (e.g., 'N5_VANTRUE_XXXX') via the Vantrue APP to view real-time recording.
Note: Ensure your smartphone's WiFi is enabled. The initial password is for login only; change it for security. The default password can be restored if forgotten.
3.5 APP Operation
Once connected, you can:
- Video Preview: View live feeds, switch between camera views, and go full-screen.
- Video Playback: View and play recorded videos and photos.
- Video Download: Download selected videos/photos. GPS track information is available when played back locally.
- Video Snapshot: Capture current screen images.
- Mileage Statistics: Download driving data (time, distance, altitude, speed) as a picture or PDF.
- Lens Correction Line: Adjust for accurate video alignment.
- OTA Upgrade: Update the dash cam firmware via the APP (refer to section 4.2.12).
3.6 APP Upgrade
Open the Vantrue App, go to Settings > About > Detect New Version. Follow prompts to upgrade.
4. Basic Operation
4.1 Menu Settings
The dash cam offers three main menus: Record Settings, System Settings, and File Browsing. Press the [Record/Confirm] button to pause video, then the [Menu] button to enter settings.
Record Setup:
- Resolution: Multiple options available for 4-channel, 3-channel, 2-channel, and single-channel recording, with various resolutions (e.g., 1944P, 1440P, 1080P) and frame rates (e.g., 30FPS).
- Loop Recording: Set recording duration to 1, 3, 5 minutes, or OFF. Default is 1 minute.
- IR LEDs: For front cabin and rear cabin cameras. Default is Auto; options include ON or OFF.
- G-Sensor: Adjust sensitivity (1-5) for event recording triggered by impact. Options for 3 directions (Front/Rear, Left/Right, Up/Down). Higher sensitivity triggers events more easily.
- Privacy Mode: Records only the latest 3 files. When enabled, the oldest file is overwritten. Privacy files are saved in the Event folder.
- Audio Recording: ON/OFF. Default is ON.
- Exposure: Adjust exposure level (+0.0 default).
- REC Status Light: ON/OFF. Default is ON.
- WDR: Wide Dynamic Range. ON/OFF. Default is ON.
- Rear HDR: ON/OFF. Default is ON.
- Rotate Display: Flip video (180 degrees). Default is OFF.
- Mirror: Displays front cabin, rear cabin, and rear recording screens in mirror mode. Default is ON.
- Number Plate: Set your license plate number to be displayed in videos.
- Stamp: Enable/disable watermarks (time, date, VANTRUE label, license plate, GPS, speed). All enabled by default.
- Time Lapse: Enable 1FPS, 5FPS, 10FPS, or 15FPS.
- Parking Mode: Options include Collision Detection, Motion Detection, Low Bitrate Recording, Low Framerate Mode, or OFF. Default is OFF.
- Low-light Night Vision in Parking Mode: ON/OFF. Default is ON. Enhances night vision in parking mode.
- Motion Detection Area: Adjust the detection range for front and rear areas.
- Mileage Statistics: ON by default. Stores GPS mileage data.
- GPS Settings: GPS enabled by default. Settings for GPS ON/OFF, speed units, and GPS information.
System Setup:
- Language: Supports English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese (Simplified), Russian, Japanese, Polish, Korean.
- Wi-Fi: Configure WiFi settings. WiFi auto-turns off after 10 minutes of inactivity unless 'Auto ON' is enabled. Default mode is 5G.
- Voice Control: Set sensitivity (low, standard, high, OFF).
- Voice Content: Access voice commands for camera control.
- Format Memory Card: Erase all data on the memory card.
- Format Reminder Setup: Set reminders for formatting (15 Days, 1 Month, OFF).
- Date & Time: Options for Automatic GPS update (default) or Manual setting. Supports Summer/Winter time switching (North America only).
- Auto LCD Off: Automatically turns off the display after a set period of inactivity.
- Device Sound: Adjust volume level (0-5).
- Prompt Tone: Customize notification sounds.
- Frequency: Set to 50Hz or 60Hz based on region.
- System Info: Check model, firmware version, and Vantrue website.
- Certifications: View certification information.
- Default Settings: Reset device to factory settings.
Files:
View recorded files:
- Event: Critical event videos (G-sensor or manual lock). File names include '_E_'.
- Normal: Standard videos (loop, parking, time-lapse, privacy). File names include '_N_', '_P_', '_T_', or '_S_'.
- Photo: Image files.
- All Files: All recorded videos and photos.
Note on File Suffixes: 'A' for front camera, 'B' for front cabin, 'C' for rear cabin, 'D' for rear camera.
4.2 Key Features
4.2.1 Loop Recording
Records continuously, overwriting older files when the card is full. The new loop recording file overwrites original files when 70% capacity is reached. Ensure a fast memory card for proper operation. Loop recording must be ON for the video lock function to work.
4.2.2 Event Recording
Triggered by G-sensor impact or manually locked via a button press. Videos are saved in the Event folder. Sensitivity affects trigger probability. Event files can occupy up to 30% of card capacity. Lock recording does not trigger if Loop Recording is OFF or Time Lapse is ON.
4.2.3 Low-light Night Vision in Parking Mode
Enhances night vision in parking mode, activated only when parking mode is entered. Default is ON.
4.2.4 Motion Detection Area
Adjustable motion detection range for front and rear cameras. Works only in motion detection parking mode. Range options: 1X to 5X.
4.2.5 Parking Mode
Sentry function for different parking situations. Modes: Collision Detection, Motion Detection, Low Bitrate Recording, Low Framerate Mode. Recording can start automatically after 5 minutes, manually, or via ACC hardwire kit. Ensure stable power supply. Time-lapse, collision detection, motion detection, low bitrate, and low framerate modes can only be enabled one at a time.
- Collision Detection: Activated by impact/shaking. Records for 1 minute after detection.
- Motion Detection: Records for 30 seconds when motion is detected, including a 10s pre-recorded buffer. Only active when the camera is ON.
- Low Bitrate Recording: Records at lower resolutions (1080P 15FPS or 720P 15FPS) to save space.
- Low Framerate Mode: Records at reduced frame rates (1FPS, 5FPS, 10FPS, 15FPS) to preserve video integrity and save space.
4.2.6 Privacy Mode
Saves only the latest 3 recording files. Loop recording must be enabled. Privacy files are saved in the normal folder with an 'S' suffix. Format the memory card before enabling.
4.2.7 Mileage Statistics
Records and analyzes driving data (time, distance, altitude, speed) using GPS. Data can be downloaded via the APP as a picture or PDF.
4.2.8 Voice Assistant
Control the camera with voice commands (e.g., take photo, start video, control WiFi, lock video). Supported languages: English, Japanese, Russian, Chinese.
4.2.9 GPS Function
GPS is enabled by default, receiving signals via the GPS mount. It calibrates time/date and records location and speed. GPS connection may take up to 1 minute. Ensure proper connection and environment for signal reception. GPS information is recorded with the video; view via Vantrue APP or GPS Player.
4.2.10 GPS Automatic Update Time& Date
GPS automatic time setting is enabled by default. Time zone can be selected (e.g., GMT-08:00 for Los Angeles). WiFi can be used to confirm automatic time adjustment via the Vantrue App.
4.2.11 Viewing and Deleting Video/Photos
On the Camera: Navigate to 'Files', select a video, and use buttons to play, delete this file, or delete all files.
On Computer: Connect via Type-C USB data cable. The camera appears as a removable drive. View and delete files directly.
On the Vantrue APP: Connect via WiFi to play back, download, and delete files on your mobile device.
Note: Viewing/downloading via the app does not consume network traffic. GPS track information is available only after local playback. Disconnect dash cam WiFi for map information to display correctly.
4.2.12 Upgrading Firmware
Option 1 (File Upgrade): Download firmware from the Vantrue Official Website, place it in the memory card's root directory, and insert it into the dash cam. Power on to upgrade.
Option 2 (OTA Upgrade): Receive firmware update prompts in the APP. Confirm to start the download and upgrade process. Keep the device plugged in during the upgrade. OTA requires network traffic.

6. Safety Warnings
This product is an auxiliary device for recording vehicle exteriors. Some functions may be affected by driving environments.
- Firmware upgrades are released periodically. Check official VANTRUE notices.
- The product records vehicle accidents but does not guarantee all images are captured. Crash sensor activation may vary for minor crashes.
- Turn off power before inserting or removing the memory card.
- Format the memory card at least once a month for stable use.
- Memory cards have a lifespan; long-term use may lead to data loss. Consider purchasing a new card if data is lost. VANTRUE is not responsible for data destruction due to memory card wear.
- Do not install or operate while the vehicle is running.
- Avoid strong shocks or vibrations that could cause malfunction.
- Do not use chemical solvents or cleaning agents.
- Normal operating temperature: -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F). Exceeding this may cause malfunction.
- Do not place the product near open flames or in high temperature/humidity areas, as this may cause electric shock, short circuits, or fire.
- Do not disassemble or modify the car charger; use of a short-circuit charger can cause injury, shock, fire, or damage.
- Do not disassemble or modify the product without permission to prevent damage, heat generation, or fire.
- Use the product within the scope of the law.
7. Warranty & Support
Warranty
The VANTRUE NEXUS 5 Dash Cam comes with a 12-month warranty. Register on the official site (www.vantrue.net/register) to extend it to 18 months.
