Installation
1) Remove Brickmould
Carefully remove the Brickmould from the door and set it aside to be re-applied later. For best results, place a wood block on the back side of the trim and carefully drive the brickmould off of the frame as you work your way around the door.
2) Cut Sill Extender
The aluminum sill extender is pre-cut for a 36" door. The sill extender will need to be measured and cut to fit if the door is smaller than 36".
3) Install Sill Extender
Install the sill extender onto the threshold by inserting the radius edge of the extender into the groove at the front (outside edge) of the threshold. Put the curved edge of the extender into place. Note: The use of a rubber mallet may be needed to help the extender snap into place.
4) Install Frame Extender
Run a 1/8" bead of caulk 1/4" in around the perimeter of the frame and then apply the extension jamb sides onto the frame. Note: the beaded side of the extender should be in contact with the frame. The side extenders are pre-cut and dadoed to match the existing frame. Line up the angled dadoes and fasten at 12" intervals with 3 1/2" (16D) galvanized casing nails. Pre-drilling is recommended to avoid splitting. The head extender is pre-cut for a 36" door. If the door size is less than 36", cut to fit and then apply.
5) Fasten Extension Jamb Corners
Predrill and nail the corners of the side and header extension jambs together using the 16D galvanized casing nails.
6) Re-install Brickmould
Remove all nails from brickmould before reinstalling. Position all 3 pieces in place prior to nailing. Start by aligning the side brickmould flush with the bottom of the frame and leave a 1/2" reveal between the inside edge of the frame and the inside edge of the brickmould. Apply the brickmould using 8D galvanized finish nails. It may be necessary to nail in new locations and fill in the original holes. Predrilling is recommended. Mitered corners should be nailed together from the top or side. Set all nails and fill with spackling compound for a more finished look.
7) Finishing Recommendations
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation and finishing of the door unit.
