Important Safety Information
This document provides essential guidelines for the safe operation and maintenance of your propane heater. Always prioritize safety and follow all instructions carefully.
Warning: Ensure you use a standard 20 lb. propane cylinder only. This heater is designed for propane vapor draw and requires a supply system as outlined in the Standard for Storage and Handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, ANSI/NFPA 58. Always confirm installation with local codes and the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z233.1. Never use a damaged propane cylinder. Cylinders must be DOT-specified and include a valve collar and an Overfill Protection Device (OPD).
Operation Guidelines
Follow these steps for proper operation:
- Initial Lighting: A slight odor may be present during the first use due to internal components. Run the main burner on high for approximately 30 minutes.
- Safety Precautions: Keep children and flammable materials away from the appliance. Ensure proper ventilation and keep the area clear of obstructions.
- Leak Testing: Perform annually or after gas system replacement. Use a soapy water solution to check for leaks at all joints and connections. Never use an open flame.
Maintenance and Storage
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity:
- Cleaning: Keep the exterior clean using warm, soapy water. Ensure the gas control area remains dry. Clean burner orifices and check for debris annually.
- Storage: Between uses, turn the control knob to OFF, disconnect the LP source, and store the heater upright in a sheltered area. For extended periods, store in a well-ventilated outdoor location, away from extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
Address common issues with the following solutions:
- Low Heat/Flame: Ensure proper lighting procedure and gas supply.
- Yellow Flame/Gas Smell: Clean burner venturi and check for debris.
- Burner Not Lighting: Check igniter battery, electrode wire connections, or use a match for ignition.
- Burner Not Staying Lit: Ensure the knob is held long enough after lighting, or check for wind interference and thermocouple connection.
- Humming Regulator: This is a normal occurrence due to internal vibrations and does not affect performance or safety.
