Cleaning and Maintenance
Follow these instructions to correctly and safely care for your window fan.
Fuse Replacement
If your 5 Amp, 125 Volt replaceable fuse blows, visit www.holmesproducts.com for information on ordering a new fuse. Follow these instructions to replace the fuse on the plug:
- Unplug the fan. Grasp the plug and remove it from the outlet. Do not unplug by pulling on the cord.
- Open the fuse cover, located on the top of the plug, by using your thumb or a flathead screwdriver to slide the cover down towards the prongs. Ensure the cover is completely open before removing the fuse.
- Carefully remove the fuse using a small screwdriver to pry it out of the compartment by its metal ends.
- Place the plug on a solid, flat surface. Insert a new 5 Amp, 125 Volt fuse into the compartment and use a small screwdriver to secure the metal ends. Caution: Risk of fire. Replace fuse only with a 5 Amp, 125 Volt fuse.
- Slide the fuse cover closed completely. If difficult, ensure the fuse is fully seated.
- Risk of fire: Do not replace the attachment plug. It contains a safety device (fuse) that should not be removed. Discard the product if the attachment plug is damaged.
Diagram Description (Figure 3): The diagram shows the fuse compartment cover on the plug, the fuse itself, and its metal ends, illustrating the fuse replacement process.
Fan Cleaning
- Always unplug the fan before cleaning or disassembling.
- Do not allow water to drip on or enter the fan motor housing.
- Use a soft cloth moistened with a mild soap solution.
- Do not use gasoline, thinner, or benzene as cleaners.
Fan Blade and Front Grill Cleaning
- Ensure the fan is unplugged.
- Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the screws holding the front and rear grills together. Carefully separate the grills from the end opposite the built-in extender, but do not detach them completely to avoid damaging extender clips. Separate just enough to access the blades.
- Clean the blades and grills with a soft, moist cloth.
- Securely fasten the grills back together.
