CATA Hob Operating and Maintenance Instructions
Introduction
This appliance is designed for domestic use only. The manufacturer is not responsible for injuries or damages caused by incorrect installation or unsuitable use.
The manufacturer declares that this product complies with low-voltage electrical equipment directives (2006/95/EEC) and electromagnetic compatibility directives (2004/108/EEC).
User's Instructions
Installation
All installation operations, including electrical connection, must be performed by skilled personnel according to current regulations. Refer to the installer's section for specific instructions.
Use
Touch Control Heating Elements
All operations are controlled via touch-sensitive keys (capacitive sensors) located on the front of the control board. Each key has a corresponding display, and actions are confirmed by an audible signal.
Touch Control Layout (Figure 2)
The control panel features the following:
- 1: ON/OFF button
- 2: Minus button
- 3: Plus button
- 4: Double / Triple Circuit button
- 5: Cooking Zone selection button
- 6: Setting Level Display (LEDs)
- 7: Dual Circuit Pilot Light
- 8: Illuminated Segment Multiple Circuits indicator
Switching the Touch Control On/Off
After mains voltage is applied, the touch control initializes for approximately one second. Displays and LEDs flash briefly upon resetting, then switch off, entering standby mode. Press the ON/OFF (1) button to activate the control. Cooking zone displays show "0". If a zone is "hot" (high temperature), "H" and "0" will alternate. The control remains active for 20 seconds; if no zone is selected, it returns to standby. The ON/OFF button takes priority for switching off, even if the child safety feature is active.
Automatic Off
The touch control automatically switches off after 20 seconds of inactivity. After selecting a cooking zone, this inactivity period is reduced to 10 seconds before the zone is deselected, followed by the control switching off after another 10 seconds.
Switching a Cooking Zone On/Off
With the touch control on, select a cooking zone by pressing its button (5). The selected zone's display (6) brightens, while others dim. If the zone is "hot", "H" and "0" alternate. Use the PLUS (3) or MINUS (2) buttons to select a heating level, and the zone will begin heating. The setting starts at level 1 and increases by 1 level every 0.4 seconds up to level 9. If using the MINUS button, it starts at level 9 and decreases. The setting can only be adjusted by pressing PLUS or MINUS again.
Switching a Cooking Zone Off
Select the zone to be switched off using its button (5). Press the PLUS (3) and MINUS (2) buttons simultaneously to set the level to 0. Alternatively, use the MINUS button (2) to reduce the level to 0. If the zone is "hot", "H" and "0" will alternate.
Switching All Cooking Zones Off
Press the ON/OFF (1) button to immediately switch off all zones. In standby mode, "H" indicates hot zones, while other displays are off.
Setting Level
Cooking zones can be set to 9 levels, indicated by numbers "1" to "9" on the seven-segment LED displays (6).
Residual Heat Indicator
This feature warns the user if the glass surface around a cooking zone is at a dangerous temperature. Residual heat is indicated by an "H" on the corresponding display. Heating and cooling are calculated based on the selected setting level and ON/OFF time. The "H" indicator remains until the zone's temperature drops below a critical level (≤ 60°C).
Automatic Off Function (Operating Time Limitation)
If no operation occurs for a set period, each cooking zone switches off. Any operation on a zone resets its maximum operating time.
Protection Against Unintended Switching On
If a button is held down for approximately 10 seconds, the control switches off automatically with an audible error signal and displays "ER 03". If a zone is "hot", "H" will alternate with the error signal. If no cooking zone is activated within 20 seconds of switching on, the control returns to standby. The ON/OFF button has priority for switching off. In standby mode, holding buttons has no effect until the control is ready to be switched back on.
Button Lock (Child Safety Feature)
To activate the child safety feature, after switching on the touch control, simultaneously press the rear left cooking zone selection button and the MINUS button (2) for 3 seconds, then press only the rear left zone selection button. An "L" (LOCKED) will appear on all displays. If a zone is "hot", "L" and "H" will alternate. This sequence must be completed within 10 seconds without pressing other buttons. The lock remains active until manually cancelled, even after power cycling. To cancel the lock, press the rear left zone selection button and the MINUS button (2) simultaneously for 3 seconds, then press only the MINUS button (2). If successful within 10 seconds, the lock is cancelled and the control switches off. Otherwise, it remains locked and switches off after 20 seconds. After reactivating the control, displays show "0", decimal points flash, and it's ready for cooking. If a zone is "hot", "0" and "H" will alternate.
Control of Multiple Circuits
Hobs without double or triple circuit: See Figure 2A.
Hob with Double Zone (Figure 2B): When activated, both circuits turn on. The external circuit activation is shown by a pilot light (7). To use only the internal circuit, press the dual circuit button (4) to switch off the external circuit. Pressing button (4) again reactivates the external circuit and its pilot light.
Hob with Triple Zone (Figure 2C) / Hob with Double and Triple Zone (Figure 2D): When activated, all 3 circuits turn on simultaneously. Each circuit is activated/deactivated using button (4), indicated by an illuminated segment (8).
Sound Signal (Buzzer)
A buzzer indicates:
- A short sound for normal button presses.
- A long, intermittent sound for buttons held down for over 10 seconds.
Precautions (Figure 3)
Use cookware with flat bottoms that match or are slightly larger than the heating zone diameter. Avoid liquid overflows by reducing heat when boiling. Do not leave heating elements on without cookware or with empty pots. If the hob surface is damaged, disconnect from mains immediately to prevent electric shock. Never use a steam cleaner. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience/knowledge, unless supervised or instructed by a responsible person. Ensure children do not play with the appliance.
Maintenance (Figure 4)
Immediately remove any aluminum foil bits, food spills, grease, sugar marks, or high-sugar foods with a scraper to prevent hob damage. Clean the surface with a towel and appropriate cleaner, rinse with water, and dry with a clean cloth. Do not use abrasive sponges or cloths, or aggressive chemical detergents like oven sprays or spot removers.
Installer's Instructions
Installation
These instructions are for qualified technicians for installation, adjustment, and maintenance, adhering to current laws and standards. Always disconnect the appliance from the electric system before performing any operations.
Positioning (Figure 5)
The appliance is designed to be fitted into a worktop as illustrated. Apply the supplied seal around the entire perimeter of the work area. If access to the lower part of the appliance is possible after installation, a protective panel should be placed at the distance indicated in the figure.
Electrical Connection
Before connecting electrically, ensure:
- The electrical system characteristics match those indicated on the appliance's rating plate.
- The system has an efficient earth connection according to standards and law provisions. Earth connection is compulsory.
If the equipment lacks a cable/plug, use suitable absorption material for working temperature as indicated on the rating plate. The cable must not reach temperatures above 50°C above ambient. For fixed wiring, include a disconnection means with contact separation on all poles, providing full disconnection under overvoltage category III conditions, per wiring rules. The plug or switch must be easily accessible. This appliance is not intended for use with external timers or remote controls. Manufacturers are not responsible for non-compliance with these instructions or accident prevention norms. If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced only by the manufacturer, an authorized service center, or a qualified electrician.
