Chapter 1: Hardware Manual
This chapter introduces the product overview, packing list, appearance, buttons, indicator lights, and interfaces.
1.1 Product Overview
The ED-HMI3120-156C is a 15.6-inch industrial tablet computer based on Raspberry Pi CM5. It can be configured with different RAM and eMMC specifications based on application scenarios and user needs.
- RAM options: 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB.
- eMMC options: 16GB, 32GB, 64GB.
The ED-HMI3120-156C provides common interfaces such as HDMI, USB, Ethernet, RS232, and RS485. It supports network access via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and 4G. It integrates optional supercapacitor backup power, RTC, Watch Dog, EEPROM, and security chip, enhancing usability and reliability. It is mainly used in industrial control and IoT fields.

1.3 Product Appearance

Chapter 2: Component Installation (Optional)
This chapter introduces the operation for installing optional components.
2.1 Install Antenna
If the selected ED-HMI3120-156C includes 4G and Wi-Fi functions, antennas must be installed before use.
Prerequisites:
- Antennas are obtained from the packaging. If multiple antennas are included, distinguish them by labels.
Operation Steps:
- Locate the antenna interface on the device side as shown in the diagram.
- Align the device and antenna connectors and screw the antenna clockwise until tight, ensuring it does not detach.
2.2 Install Micro SD Card
If a Micro SD card needs to be installed during product use, follow the steps below.
Prerequisites:
- The Micro SD card to be used is available.
Operation Steps:
- Locate the Micro SD card slot on the device side as shown in the diagram.
- Insert the Micro SD card with the contacts facing down into the slot. A click sound indicates successful installation.
2.3 Install Nano SIM Card
If the selected ED-HMI3120-156C includes 4G functionality, a Nano SIM card must be installed before using the 4G function.
Note: Nano SIM cards do not support hot-plugging.
Prerequisites:
- The 4G Nano SIM card to be used is available.
- Device power is disconnected.
Operation Steps:
- Locate the Nano SIM card slot on the device side as shown in the diagram.
- Insert the Nano SIM card with the contacts facing down into the slot. A click sound indicates successful installation.
Chapter 3: Device Installation
The ED-HMI3120-156C supports flush-mount front installation. The standard package includes an embedded mounting kit (ED-ACCHMI-Front).
Prerequisites:
- Obtain the ED-ACCHMI-Front accessory kit (includes 4x M4*10 screws, 4x M4*16 screws, and 4x clips).
- Prepare a Phillips head screwdriver.
Operation Steps:
- Determine the cutout size for the cabinet based on the dimensions of the ED-HMI3120-156C, as shown in the figure below. Dimensions: 230.5 ±0.5 mm, 380.5 ±0.5 mm, 4-R5.5.
- Drill holes in the cabinet according to the hole size determined in step 1.
- Embed the ED-HMI3120-156C into the cabinet from the outside.
- Align the screw holes of the clips (holes without threads) with the clip mounting holes on the device side and install them.
- Insert 4x M4*10 screws through the clip's screw holes (holes without threads) and tighten clockwise with a screwdriver to secure the clip to the device. Then, insert 4x M4*16 screws through the clip's screw holes (holes with threads) to press against the inside of the cabinet and tighten clockwise until fully seated.
Chapter 4: Powering On the Device
This chapter introduces cable connection and device startup procedures.
4.1 Connecting Cables

Prerequisites:
- Obtain necessary accessories such as a display, mouse, keyboard, and power adapter.
- Obtain network connection.
- Obtain HDMI cable and network cable.
For pin definitions of each interface and connection methods, refer to Section 1.6 Interfaces.
4.2 First Boot
The ED-HMI3120-156C has no power switch. Upon connecting power, the system will start automatically.
- The red PWR LED lights up, indicating the device is powered on.
- The green ACT LED blinks, indicating the system is booting normally. The Raspberry Pi logo will appear in the upper left corner of the screen.

4.2.1 Raspberry Pi OS (Desktop)
If the product is shipped with the Desktop version of the OS, it will boot directly to the desktop as shown in the figure.
4.2.2 Raspberry Pi OS (Lite)
If the product is shipped with the Lite version of the OS, it will automatically log in with the default username 'pi' after booting. The default password is 'raspberry'. The figure shows the system has booted normally.

5.10.1 Install picocom Tool
In a Linux environment, the picocom tool can be used to debug RS232 and RS485 serial ports.
Execute the following command to install the picocom tool:
sudo apt-get install picocom
5.10.2 Configure RS232
The ED-HMI3120-156C has 2 RS232 ports. Their corresponding COM ports and device files are as follows:

- Execute the following command to open serial port com1 and set the baud rate to 115200:

- Enter commands as needed to control the external device.
5.10.3 Configure RS485
The ED-HMI3120-156C has 2 RS485 ports. Their corresponding COM ports and device files are as follows:
