BACnet Protocol

BACnet (Building Automation and Control Network, ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 135-2004) is a standard for interoperability between building automation systems from different manufacturers. It defines standard objects (data points) with properties and application services for data access and manipulation, enabling client/server communication.

For more information, see "Additional Resources."

BACnet Testing Laboratory (BTL) Certification

The BCI2-I supports the BACnet communication protocol and is designed to meet the BACnet Building Controller (B-BC) profile requirements. Refer to the BTL website (www.bacnetinternational.org) for details.

Configuration

Setting Rotary Dial Address Using Embedded BCI2 Software Tool

The BCI2-C controller does not use physical rotary dials for address setting. A default address is factory-set and labeled on the circuit board. The address can be changed using the embedded BCI2 Service Tool via a web browser.

  1. Connect a USB-A to USB-B cable from the laptop to the BCI2-C service port.
  2. Open a web browser on the laptop.
  3. Navigate to the IP address: 198.80.18.1
  4. The BCI2 Service Tool interface will load.
  5. Navigate to Installation > Identification and Communication > Protocol Configuration > Edit.
  6. Set the device address by typing the new address in the designated field.
  7. Optionally, check "Use software device ID" and enter a desired Device ID.
  8. Note: All devices are MSTP managers with valid MAC addresses from 001 to 127 for BACnet.

Figure 7: Setting rotary dial address - This visual depicts the software interface within the BCI2 Service Tool where the device address and Device ID are configured.

Connecting and Configuring the BCI2-C with Tracer TU Software

This section details connecting to Tracer TU and configuring the BCI2-C. Ensure Tracer TU Service Tool (Version 11.6 or higher) is installed.

Connecting to Tracer TU

  1. Connect the laptop to the BCI2-C controller via USB cable (directly or through a panel USB port).
  2. Launch Tracer TU from the desktop icon or Start menu.
  3. In the Startup Task Panel, select "Direct Connection (Via USB cable)".
  4. Click "Connect". The Unit Summary page will display upon successful connection.
