1. Detector Adjustment

This section details how to adjust the MUSE IR detector using micro-switches.

Diagram: Shows the MUSE IR device from the front, top, and side, with a close-up view of the internal micro-switches. The micro-switches are labeled with options like '180s', '30s', 'ON', and 'OFF'. The adjustment is referred to as 'Réglage par micro-switch' (Micro-switch adjustment).

The detector's settings are adjusted via micro-switches. These switches allow configuration of various functions, including time delay and sensor activation.

Micro-switch Settings:

The specific configuration involves setting the switches to 'ON' or 'OFF' and selecting the desired time delay.

2. Function and Operation

This section explains the core functions and operational modes of the MUSE IR detector.

Diagram: Illustrates the sensor's detection zones and the relationship between ambient light, presence detection, and light activation. It also shows the micro-switches for controlling 'Temporisation avant extinction' (Time delay before extinction), 'Capteur crépusculaire' (Twilight sensor), and 'Activation ou désactivation du détecteur' (Detector activation/deactivation).

IMPORTANT: Please read these instructions carefully before installation and keep this notice in a known place for future reference regarding product settings.

Function Operation Setting Example
Time Delay Before Extinction Allows setting the duration the luminaire stays on before completely turning off. Micro-switches can be set for 30s or 180s.
Light Sensor Enables or disables the twilight sensor. Micro-switches can be set to 'ON' (Activé) or 'OFF' (Désactivé).
IR Sensor Enables or disables the motion sensor. Micro-switches can be set to 'ON' (Activé) or 'OFF' (Désactivé).

Diagrams: Show three scenarios related to light and presence detection.

3. Movement Detection Types

When a person moves in front of an infrared detector, two types of movements can be observed: radial and tangential.

Radial Movement: This type of movement occurs when a person approaches or moves away directly from the detector, i.e., facing the detector.

Tangential Movement: Conversely, tangential movement refers to motion where the person moves perpendicular to the detector's line of sight, without significantly changing their distance from it. In other words, the person follows a path parallel to the detector's surface.

Radial movement primarily affects the distance between the object and the detector, while tangential movement occurs without a major change in this distance, but with a variation in the detection angle.

Diagram: Illustrates radial and tangential movement detection in front of a building with large windows. Arrows show the direction of movement relative to the detector.

4. Warnings and Considerations

Infrared luminosity detectors are designed to react to temperature variations. They cannot see through materials.

If the ambient temperature changes abruptly (e.g., a luminaire too close to an air conditioning unit), it may cause unintended activations.

This technology imposes different detection sensitivities depending on the type of movement. The data is based on a movement speed of approximately 5 km/h.

Light Sensor Accuracy:

The light sensor reads the ambient illumination level around it, meaning it detects the light it receives. The sensor's measurement is considerably affected by its environment, including:

  1. Installation height
  2. Distance from artificial lighting sources
  3. Light reflection
  4. Floor and wall coverings
  5. Surface colors

Weather also influences this measurement. For example, a cloudy day will provide different luminosity than a clear day.
