Step 1: Prepare the Door and Check Dimensions

If drilling a new door, use the supplied template and the complete door drilling instructions available at www.kwikset.com/doorprep.

Door Hole Diameter

Measure to confirm that the hole in the door is either 2-1/8" (54 mm) or 1-1/2" (38 mm).

Backset Measurement

Measure to confirm that the backset is either 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" (60 or 70 mm).

Door Edge Hole

Measure to confirm that the hole in the door edge is 1" (25 mm).

Door Thickness

Measure to confirm that the door is either 1-3/8" or 1-3/4" (35 mm or 44 mm) thick.

Note: Additional door preparation may be required for doors with 1-1/2" (38 mm) holes. Consult the deadbolt drilling instructions at www.kwikset.com/doorprep.

Step 2: Install the Latch and Strike

Latch Installation

Hold the latch in front of the door hole, with the latch face flush against the door edge.

Check if the slotted hole is centered in the door hole:

If YES (slotted hole is centered): No adjustment is required. Proceed to the next step.

If NO (slotted hole is NOT centered): Rotate the latch face 180 degrees [arrow] to extend the latch. Align tabs with holes in the collar. Ensure the collar snaps into place. Pull the collar to test for a tight fit. Make sure the slotted hole is at the bottom of the latch.

Check if the door edge is chiseled:

If YES (chiseled): Install latch in door with supplied screws (J).

If NO (not chiseled): Use a flathead screwdriver to lift tabs on the collar of the rectangular face to remove it from the latch. Install the drive-in collar. Make sure the slotted hole is at the bottom of the latch.

Strike Installation

Install the strike on the door frame. Make sure the hole in the door frame is drilled a minimum of 1" (25 mm) deep.

Step 3: Prepare Keypad and Mounting Plate (only for doors with smaller holes)

Check the diameter of the hole in the door:

If Diameter is 2-1/8" (54 mm): No adjustment is required. Proceed to Step 4.

If Diameter is 1-1/2" (38 mm):

Adapter Ring Removal

Remove the adapter ring from the exterior assembly:

  1. Remove gasket.
  2. Remove adapter ring from gasket.
  3. Reinstall gasket, ensuring a tight seal.

Mounting Plate Tab Removal

Use pliers to remove two tabs from the mounting plate.

Step 4: Install Exterior Assembly

  1. Install the cylinder (D) into the exterior assembly (E).
  2. Route the cable below the latch.
  3. IMPORTANT: Make sure the latch is fully retracted (in the unlocked position).
  4. IMPORTANT: Make sure the torque blade is in the horizontal position.
  5. Insert the torque blade through the horizontal slot in the latch.
  6. Push the torque blade through the center hole in the mounting plate (F) and send the cable through the bottom hole.
  7. Secure the mounting plate with the supplied screws (M).
  8. Insert the key and test the latch for smooth operation.
  9. Remove the key and make sure the latch bolt is still in the unlocked position.

Note: Keep the exterior assembly parallel to the door edge.

If the latch does not operate smoothly, adjust screws.

Step 5: Install Interior Assembly

  1. Remove the battery cover (H).
  2. Load 4 AA batteries into the interior assembly (G). Use new, non-rechargeable Alkaline batteries only. Ensure correct polarity.
  3. Press and hold the Reset button on the interior assembly for 5 seconds, until you hear 3 long beeps. (Note: Turnpiece may move on its own).
  4. Align the colored edges of the connectors and ensure a tight cable connection.
  5. IMPORTANT: Rotate the turnpiece AWAY from the door edge (approximately 45 degrees).
  6. Make sure the torque blade is still in the horizontal position and install the interior assembly (G).
  7. Test the turnpiece for smooth rotation. If it doesn't rotate, repeat steps 5E and 5F, ensuring the turnpiece is rotated AWAY from the door edge.
  8. Secure the interior assembly with the supplied screws (L).
  9. Reinstall battery cover (H) and make sure the latch is still in the unlocked position.

Step 6: Set Locking and Unlocking Direction

To activate the screen, touch the screen with your palm or the back of your hand until digits illuminate.

While the door is OPEN and UNLOCKED, activate the screen.

Enter the following code to teach the lock the orientation of the door:
