Automatic Clock Setting
Upon first connection to mains power, the clock radio automatically synchronises with the UK standard time signal transmitter (MSF) located in Rugby, UK. The MSF indicator [signal] will flash during this process (approx. 2-4 minutes). Once set, the display will show the correct time and the MSF indicator [signal] will stop flashing.
If the MSF transmitter is down for maintenance, manual setting may be required. Recorded information on transmitter status is available on 020 8943 6493.
If the time does not set correctly, try rotating the clock radio for better MSF signal reception. It is recommended to place the radio away from interference sources like computers or televisions.
To re-synchronise with the MSF signal, press and release the Time button until the MSF indicator [signal] flashes. Syncronisation is complete when it stops flashing.
In case of mains power failure, the clock radio will automatically re-synchronise with the MSF signal and reset the time when power is restored.
Switching On
- Place the unit on a flat surface and plug the mains lead into a wall socket.
- The microprocessor automatically activates the Radio Controlled clock and searches for the time signal. The MSF indicator [signal] flashes.
- Seconds digits appear when the radio time signal is received.
- The exact time is displayed when the setting process is complete (2-4 minutes), and the MSF indicator [signal] stops flashing.
- If the time does not set, rotate the clock radio for better MSF signal reception.
- Place the clock radio away from potential interference sources (computers, televisions, etc.).
- Press and release the Time button to re-synchronise with the MSF signal; the MSF indicator [signal] will flash and stop when complete.
In case of mains power failure, the clock radio will automatically synchronise with the MSF time signal and reset the clock when mains power is restored.
Setting the Time Manually

- While holding the Time Set button, use the Forward [➡️] or Reverse [⬅️] buttons to set the time. Release when correct. The clock displays in 12-hour format with a PM indicator [PM]. Ensure the correct 12-hour cycle is selected.
- After manual setting, the CR9931 uses its internal time memory and automatically synchronises with the radio time signal at 00:00, 01:00, 02:00, 03:00, and 04:00.

Mains Supply
The CR9931 operates from AC 230 volts, 50Hz. The product is supplied with a plug fitted with an appropriate fuse. If the plug is unsuitable, it must be replaced with one that fits your socket outlet and has a correctly rated fuse. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
Important: Do not connect to the terminal marked 'E' or the safety earth symbol [?] (usually green or green-and-yellow wire).
Mains lead wire colours: BLUE (Neutral), BROWN (Live). Connect BLUE to the terminal marked 'N' or BLACK. Connect BROWN to the terminal marked 'L' or RED.
Fuse
The apparatus must be protected by a 3A fuse (BS1362) in a 13A plug (BS1363). If a different plug type is used, a 5A fuse should be fitted in the plug, adaptor, or distribution board. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
Back-up Battery (Optional)
This is not necessary for the unit to function but retains time and alarm settings during temporary mains power failure. The LED display will be off to conserve battery life.
- Slide the battery cover catch [➡️] and remove the cover.
- Fit 2 x LR03 (AAA size) batteries.
- Replace the battery cover.
If the clock radio is not used for a prolonged period, remove the battery to prevent leakage damage.
