CRD-37 Clock Radio Features
The Roberts CRD-37 Clock radio provides the following features in an attractive compact unit.
Radio
The CRD-37 can receive DAB and FM (with RDS) wavebands.
CD
The CRD-37 plays audio CDs (can also play CDR, CD-RW discs).
CD-MP3/WMA
The CRD-37 plays MP3 and WMA files which have been recorded to CDR or CD-RW discs.
CD Bookmark
The CRD-37 has a CD Bookmark feature which allows CD playback to resume from the track and time position reached when the unit was previously put into standby mode.
Clock
Automatic clock setting from DAB or FM RDS broadcasts.
Headphone output
A standard 3.5mm headphone socket is provided for private listening.

- 19. Wire DAB/FM aerial: For receiving radio signals.

Using Your Clock Radio for the First Time
- Place your clock radio on a flat surface.
- Fully extend the wire aerial located on the rear of your clock radio for optimum reception.
- Insert the power adapter plug into the DC socket on the rear of your clock radio.
- Plug the adapter into a standard 13amp mains socket outlet.
IMPORTANT: The mains adapter connects the clock radio to the power supply. Ensure the mains socket remains accessible during normal use. To disconnect, remove the adapter from the socket.
- When first switched on, the display will show "Setting Clock" and a station search will begin automatically.
- Once stations are found, clock information will appear. Press the Display button to toggle between time only or time and date.
- If no stations are found, "Clock not set" will be displayed. Relocate the radio for better reception and perform an autoscan (see page 9).

Operating Your Clock Radio - DAB
- Fully extend the wire aerial.
- If the radio is in standby, press the On/Off button to switch it on.
- Press and release the Function button to select DAB. The display will show "DAB" then "Now tuning".
- A scan of UK DAB channels may occur (or automatically on first setup). If previously used, the last station is selected. New stations are added to the list.
- The first found station will play, showing its name and information.
- If the station list is empty, "Station not available" will be displayed.
- If no signals are found, relocate the radio for better reception and repeat the scan using the AutoScan facility (page 9).

Selecting a Station - DAB
- The top display line shows the current station name.
- Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons to scroll through available stations on the lower line. Stop when you find your desired station.
- Press and release the Select button to choose the station. The display may show "Now tuning".
- Adjust the Volume to your preference.
Note: If "Station not available" persists, relocate the radio for better reception.
Secondary Services - DAB
- Some stations have secondary services, indicated by ">>" next to the station name. The secondary service appears after the primary service when pressing Tuning Up.
- Press and release the Select button to choose the secondary station.

Display Modes - DAB
Your radio has seven display modes. Press the Display button to cycle through them:
- a. Scrolling text: Displays messages like artist/track name.
- b. Programme type: Shows the programme genre (e.g., Pop, Classic, News).
- c. Multiplex Name: Displays the name of the DAB multiplex the station belongs to.
- d. Time and date: Shows the current time and date.
- e. Channel & frequency: Displays the channel number and frequency for the DAB multiplex.
- f. Bit rate/audio type: Shows the digital bit rate and audio type.
- g. Signal error: Displays the signal error level for the station.

Finding New Stations - DAB
New stations may become available. To find them:
- Press and release the Alarm/Auto Scan button. The display shows "Scanning". The radio scans UK DAB frequencies, and a station counter increases as new stations are found and added to the list.
- For a full scan of DAB Band III frequencies, press and hold the Alarm/Auto Scan button for over 2 seconds, then release. The display shows "Scanning", and the station counter updates.

Manual Tuning - DAB
Tune directly to DAB Band III channels (range 11B to 12D).
- Press and release the Menu button until "Station order" appears.
- Press Tuning Up or Down buttons until "Manual tune" appears, then press Select.
- Press Tuning Up or Down buttons to select the desired DAB channel.
- Press Select. An indicator graph shows signal strength needed for good reception. Bars change as you adjust the aerial or radio position.
- Press Select to return to normal tuning.
Signal Strength Display - DAB
- Press Select. The lower display line shows signal strength. Position the radio and aerial for best reception using this display. The most bars indicate the strongest signal.
- A clear unfilled rectangle shows the minimum signal level for satisfactory reception. Press Select to return to the previous display mode.

Dynamic Range Control (DRC) Settings - DAB Only
DRC helps make quieter sounds audible in noisy environments. It's available only for DAB.
- Press On/Off to switch on the radio.
- Press and release Menu until "Station order" appears.
- Press Tuning Up or Down buttons until "DRC value" appears.
- Press Select to enter adjustment mode. The top display line shows the current DRC setting.
- Press Tuning Up or Down buttons to select the DRC setting (default is 0):
- DRC 0: DRC is switched off.
- DRC 1/2: DRC level is set to 1/2 that sent by broadcaster.
- DRC 1: DRC is set as sent by broadcaster.
- Press Select to confirm the setting. The display returns to radio mode.
Note: DRC only works if the DAB broadcast supports it.

Operating Your Radio - Search Tuning FM
- Fully extend the wire aerial and press On/Off to switch on the radio.
- Press and release the Function button until the FM band is selected.
- Press Tuning Up and then Alarm/Auto scan. The radio scans upwards from the current frequency and stops at a station of sufficient strength.
- The display shows the frequency. If RDS is available, the station name appears after a few seconds. "St" and "RDS" indicate stereo and RDS reception.
- To find other stations, press and hold Alarm/Autoscan.
- To scan downwards (high to low frequency), press Tuning Down then Alarm/Auto scan.
- Tuning wraps around the waveband.
- Adjust the Volume.
- Press On/Off to switch off.

Manual Tuning - FM
- Press On/Off to switch on.
- Press Function to select FM.
- Fully extend the wire aerial.
- Press Tuning Up and Down buttons repeatedly to tune. Frequency changes in 50kHz steps. Holding a button advances tuning faster.
- Tuning wraps around the waveband.
- Set the Volume.
- Press On/Off to switch off.

Display Modes - FM
On FM, the bottom display line can show:
- a. Scrolling text: Displays messages like artist/track name.
- b. Programme Type: Shows the programme genre (e.g., Pop, Classic, News).
- c. Time and date: Shows the current time and date.
- d. Frequency: Displays the station frequency.
Press the Display button to cycle through modes.

Presetting Stations
There are 20 memory presets (10 for DAB, 10 for FM).
- Press On/Off to switch on.
- Tune to the desired station.
- Press Prog/Random. "Preset" will flash with "01".
- Use Memory Up or Down buttons to select the desired preset number.
- Press Prog/Random again. The display shows "Preset 1 saving" then "Preset 1 saved". The station is stored. Repeat for other presets.
- Stored presets can be overwritten.

Recalling a Preset Station
- Press On/Off to switch on.
- Select the waveband (DAB/FM) using the Function button.
- Press Memory Up or Down buttons to select the desired preset number.
- The radio tunes to the stored station.

Compact Discs
Use only Digital Audio CDs with the [Digital Audio Disc symbol].
- Never write on or attach stickers to a CD.
- Hold CDs by the edge. Store them in their cases with the label facing up.
- To clean, breathe on the CD and wipe gently from the center outwards in a straight line with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Cleaning agents may damage CDs.
- Do not expose CDs to rain, moisture, sand, or excessive heat.
CD-R/CD-RW Discs
The CRD-37 can play CDDA format audio CD-R/CD-RW discs that have been finalised* after recording.
Playback may fail on some CD-R/CD-RW discs due to poor recording quality.
*Finalising enables a CD-R/CD-RW disc to playback on audio players such as your CRD-37.
WARNING

Caution: Using equipment other than specified, or tampering with the unit, can result in dangerous radiation exposure.
MP3 / WMA CD Mode
The CRD-37 plays CD-R and CD-RW discs containing MP3 or WMA files.
In MP3/WMA mode, "album" corresponds to a PC folder, and "file" to an audio track. The radio reads files with a maximum of 255 files per folder. A CD may not contain more than 512 files or albums total. MP3/WMA files must have an audio sample rate of 44.1kHz. Both MP3 and WMA files can be on the same media.
Burning CD-R/RWs with audio files can cause playback issues due to faulty software, hardware, or the CD itself. Contact your CD burner or software manufacturer for support. Ensure copyright laws are observed when creating audio CDs.
Inserting a CD
- To open the CD compartment, lift the CD door.
- Place the CD on the spindle until it clicks, then gently close the compartment.
Playing a CD
- Press On/Off to switch on.
- Press Function to select CD as the input source. The player scans the CD contents, displaying "READING".
Audio CD: Total number of tracks and total playing time are displayed.
MP3 / WMA CD: Total number of files and folders are displayed.
- Press Play/Pause/Select to start playback. The display shows the track/file number and play symbol [▶].
Audio CD: Shows current track number and elapsed playing time.
MP3/WMACD: Shows current file number for 3 seconds, then file name, ID3 tag, and elapsed playing time.
- Adjust the Volume.

CD Playback Controls
- To pause playback, press Play/Pause/Select. The pause symbol [⏸] appears. Audio CD shows track number and time; MP3/WMA CD shows file name/ID3 tag and time.
- To resume playback, press Play/Pause/Select again.
- To stop playback, press the Stop button once.
CD Bookmark
The CD Bookmark feature allows playback to resume from the exact point where it was stopped, even after standby or function change. If mains power is lost, the bookmark is cancelled, and playback restarts from the beginning.
- When the CD is playing, press Stop once. The display shows the current track/file number and "Resume". You can then put the radio into standby or select another function.
- To cancel the Bookmark function, press Stop again (in CD mode) or eject the CD.
- To take out the CD, lift the CD door. It should only be opened when the CD player is in stop mode.

Selecting a Track
- Audio CD: While playing, press Skip Up or Down to change tracks. You can also skip to a track when stopped. Press Play/Pause/Select to play the selected track.
- MP3 / WMA CD: While playing, press Memory/Album Up or Down to change albums/folders, then press Skip Up or Down to change tracks. You can also skip albums/tracks when stopped. Press Play/Pause/Select to play the selected track.

CD Modes
Search Function
- While the CD is playing, press and hold Skip Up or Down. Release when the desired part of the track is reached.
CD Repeat Mode
- Press the Intro/Repeat button to cycle through options:
- Audio CD: Repeat 1 [?], Repeat ALL [?], Normal Play [▶].
- MP3 / WMA CD: Repeat 1 [?], Repeat Album [?], Repeat ALL [?], Normal Play [▶].
- The display shows the selected repeat mode.
CD Intro Mode
- When stopped, press Intro/Repeat once to play the first 10 seconds of each track. "Intro" appears on the display.
- To cancel Intro mode, press Intro/Repeat.

CD Random Play
- While playing, press Prog/Random to play tracks in random order. "RAND" appears.
- Press Prog/Random again to return to normal play. "RAND" disappears.
Creating a Play List (Program Play - Audio CD Only)
Program up to 20 tracks in any order.
- While stopped, press Prog/Random. The display shows "P-01".
- Audio CD: Select the first track using Skip Up or Down buttons. "PROG" flashes. Store by pressing Prog/Random.
- Repeat steps for desired tracks.
- Press Play/Pause/Select to start programmed playback.
Note: Programme play is only available on original Audio CDs and CDDA audio on CD-R/RW discs. MP3/WMA playback cannot be programmed.

Checking and Editing a Programme
While the CD is stopped, you can check and edit the program.
- Press Prog/Random repeatedly to view the programmed playlist.
- To edit, navigate to the desired track and follow the playlist creation procedure (page 23).
Erasing a Programme
- In program mode, press the Stop button to erase the program. Programs are also erased by putting the radio into standby or radio mode.

Alarm Mode
Your clock radio has four alarms that can wake you by radio (FM or DAB), CD, or beep. Each alarm can be set for:
- Once only
- Everyday
- Monday to Friday
- Monday to Saturday
- Saturday to Sunday
Alarms can only be set in standby mode. Alarm settings are retained for up to 24 hours during power failure.
Note: If no buttons are pressed for 10 seconds, the clock radio exits alarm setup. Press the Menu button to exit the alarm menu at any time.
- Press and hold the Alarm button for 3 seconds. "Alarm" appears with "1" flashing.
- Press Skip Up or Down buttons to select between Alarm 1 to 4.
- Press the Alarm button to enter alarm setup.
- The hours digits flash. Press Skip Up or Down to select the hour, then press Alarm to confirm.
- The minute digits flash. Press Skip Up or Down to select the minute.

Alarm Settings
- Press the Alarm button to confirm the setting and enter the alarm day option menu. Select between once, daily, Mon-Fri, Mon-Sat, and Sat-Sun.

- Press Skip Up or Down buttons to select the desired Alarm day option.
- Press the Alarm button to confirm the alarm day setting and enter the alarm mode selection menu.
- Press Skip Up or Down buttons to select the desired alarm mode (OFF, BUZZER, DAB, CD, FM). Press Alarm to confirm. Setting to "OFF" disables the alarm.
- "Snooze 5 minutes" will be shown. Press Skip Up or Down to select snooze timer (5, 10, 15, 20 minutes). Press Alarm to confirm.

Alarm Activation and Management
When the clock radio display is set to show time and date, an alarm symbol [?] appears if an alarm is set. Press the Display button to toggle between large time display and time/date display.
Note: If waking by radio, the last used station will play at the alarm time. The alarm volume starts low and increases. The alarm sounds for 90 minutes unless cancelled.
Ensure a CD is inserted if CD is the alarm mode. Otherwise, the buzzer alarm will be used.
View the Alarm Time
- Repeatedly press the Alarm button to view time settings for Alarms 1 to 4.
To Cancel the Alarm
- While an alarm is sounding, press On/Off to cancel it for 24 hours.
- To permanently cancel, enter the alarm setup menu for that alarm and set the mode to "OFF" (see step 9 above).

Sleep Function
The clock radio can turn off after a preset time. The sleep timer is adjustable from 0 to 90 minutes in 10-minute increments.
- Press the Sleep button to enter sleep setup. "Sleep 90" will be displayed.
- Repeatedly press the Sleep button to adjust the timer. The selected time is set. If the radio is in standby, it will switch on for the selected time; if already on, it will switch off after the time elapses.
- During countdown, press Sleep to view remaining time or change the setting.
- The radio switches off after the preset sleep time.
- To cancel the sleep function before time elapses, press On/Off or Snooze. To cancel the sleep timer and leave the radio on, repeatedly press Sleep until the timer is 0 minutes.

Snooze
- When the alarm sounds, pressing the Snooze button silences it for the specified duration.
- Snooze duration (5, 10, 15, 20 minutes) is adjustable in Alarm settings (pages 25-27).
Dimmer
- Press the Dimmer button to change backlight illumination level (high, low, off).

Clock Display
In Standby, the clock radio has two display modes: time only, or time and date combined.
- If the radio is on, press On/Off to switch it to standby mode.
- Press the Display button to toggle between the two modes.

Software Version
The software version display is for reference only.
- Ensure the radio is in DAB mode. Press the Menu button to enter setup.
- Press Skip Up or Down buttons until "SW Version" and the version number appear.
System Reset
If the radio operates incorrectly or the display is incomplete, perform a system reset.
- While in DAB or FM mode, press and hold the Menu button until "Press SELECT to confirm reset" appears.
- Press and release the Select button to confirm.
A full reset will erase the station list and all preset stations. In case of malfunction due to electrostatic discharge or electrical fast transient, a simple reset (disconnecting and reconnecting power after 10 seconds) may be sufficient.

Headphone Socket
- A 3.5mm Headphone Socket on the rear allows private listening with headphones. Inserting a plug mutes the internal loudspeakers.
- Adjust the volume as needed. Be aware that headphone sensitivity varies; set volume low before connecting.
IMPORTANT: Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss.

General Information and Safety
Important Notes
- The mains adapter connects the clock radio to the power supply. The socket must remain accessible. To disconnect, remove the adapter from the socket.
- The clock radio must not be exposed to dripping or splashing. Do not place liquid-filled objects (e.g., vases) on the radio.
- Operate the product with a minimum distance (10cm recommended) to adjacent objects for good ventilation.
- Do not obstruct ventilation openings with items like newspapers or curtains.
- Do not place naked flame sources (e.g., lighted candles) on the product.
- Avoid using or storing the product at extreme temperatures. Do not leave it in cars or on sunlit window sills.
- The clock radio must be used in a moderate climate.
General Recommendations
- Do not expose the clock radio to water, steam, or sand. Avoid excessive heat.
- The DAB band is recommended for better quality and freedom from interference compared to FM.
- The name plate is located on the underside of your clock radio.

Procedure:
