Introduction

This document provides comprehensive instructions for the Roberts Revival Petite portable DAB/DAB+/FM radio with Bluetooth, covering its features, operation, settings, and specifications.

Controls

Description of controls:

  • 1 Speaker: The primary audio output.
  • 2 Battery charging indicator: A red LED (?) that is solid red when charging and turns off when fully charged.
  • 3 Bluetooth indicator: A blue LED (?) that flashes when discoverable and is steady when connected.
  • 4 OLED display: Shows station information, menus, and status.
  • 5 Volume Up button: Increases audio volume.
  • 6 Volume Down button: Decreases audio volume.
  • 7 Tuning / Select / Info / Menu control: Used for tuning stations, selecting menu options, displaying information, and accessing menus.
  • 8 Mode button: Cycles through radio modes (DAB, FM, Bluetooth, Aux In).
  • 9 Power button: Turns the radio on or off.
  • 10 External antenna socket: For connecting the external wire antenna.
  • 11 Auxiliary input socket: 3.5mm jack for connecting legacy audio devices.
  • 12 DC in 5V/1A micro USB charging socket: For charging the battery.
  • 13 Passive radiator: Enhances bass response.
  • 14 External wire antenna: For improved DAB and FM reception.
  • 15 Micro USB charging lead: Included cable for charging.

Step 1: Charge & Play DAB Radio

Please read the safety leaflet provided before charging your radio. Your radio operates on a built-in Lithium-ion battery that can be recharged using a USB charging port or a USB power adaptor (not included) with a rated output of DC5V, 1000mA. You can begin using the radio whilst charging, provided the USB power source can supply 5V 1A.

A - Charging your radio

Before operating for the first time, fully charge the battery (may take up to 6 hours).

  1. Place your radio on a flat surface.
  2. Connect the Micro USB plug to the micro USB charging socket on the rear of the radio.
  3. Connect the standard USB plug to a USB power outlet.
  4. The battery indicator light (?) will be solid red while charging and turn off when fully charged.

B - Fit the external antenna

Insert the external antenna plug into the antenna socket on the rear of the radio. This antenna is used for both DAB and FM radio reception. DAB band is recommended for better quality and freedom from interference.

C - Switch on your radio

  1. Press and release the Power button (9) to switch on the radio. A startup screen will appear, followed by a station scan.
  2. If it's the first use, a scan of the Band III DAB channels will be performed. The radio remembers the last used mode. To switch off, press and release the Power button.
  3. Note: If no signals are found, relocate the radio for better reception and perform a new scan.

D - Select a DAB radio station

  1. If needed, press the Mode button (8) until DAB mode is selected.
  2. Rotate the Tuning control (7) to step through the list of available DAB stations.
  3. Press the Tuning control (7) to select the station.
  4. Use the Volume Up/Down buttons (5, 6) to adjust the volume.
  5. Some stations may have additional broadcasts that appear immediately after the main station.
  6. Press and release the Tuning / Info control (7) to cycle through DAB display options (scrolling text, program type, multiplex name, date, frequency, bit rate, audio type, coding information, signal strength).

E - Scan for DAB stations

As new stations become available or if you move, you may need to rescan.

  1. In DAB mode, apply a long press on the Tuning control (7) to enter the DAB menu.
  2. Rotate the Tuning control (7) and select 'Scan'.
  3. Press Tuning (7). The radio will scan Band III DAB channels and add any new stations found to the list.

Step 2: Play FM Radio

A - Search tuning - FM

  1. Ensure the external wire antenna (14) is inserted.
  2. Press and release the Mode button (8) until FM is selected.
  3. Rotate the Tuning control (7) clockwise or anti-clockwise to scan upwards (low to high frequency) or downwards (high to low frequency). The scan stops automatically on finding a station of sufficient strength.
  4. When the end of the waveband is reached, tuning recommences from the opposite end. If the signal is strong and RDS data is present, the station name will be displayed.
  5. Adjust the Volume (5, 6).
  6. Press and release the Tuning / Info control (7) to cycle through FM display options (station name, scrolling text, program type, date, frequency).

B - Manual fine tuning - FM

  1. Turning the Tuning control (7) starts auto scan. To stop, turn the control one more step.
  2. To change frequency slightly, first press the Tuning control (7), then turn. Each click changes 50 kHz.
  3. After a few seconds, the control returns to auto scan mode.

Step 3: Bluetooth

Connecting Bluetooth devices

  1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smart device.
  2. With the radio switched on, press and release the Mode button (8) until Bluetooth mode is selected.
  3. The Bluetooth indicator (?) will flash blue, making the radio discoverable.
  4. On your smart device, select 'Revival Petite'. Once connected, you can play music. The Bluetooth indicator (?) will remain steady.
  5. Adjust volume using the radio's volume controls (5, 6) and the connected device's controls.

Playing audio

  1. Your smart device's audio player may respond to Play/Pause, Next track, or Previous track controls on the radio.
  2. Press the Tuning control (7) to pause playback. Press again to resume.
  3. Rotate the Tuning control (7) clockwise or anti-clockwise to skip to the next or previous track.
  4. Note: Not all player applications or devices may respond to all controls.
  5. Displayed information (title, artist, album) cycles periodically. To disable auto scroll, enter the menu, select 'Info Scroll', and choose 'No'. Choose 'Yes' to re-enable.

Connect a different device

  1. To connect a different device, apply a long press on the Tuning control (7). Choose 'Disconnect'. The radio becomes discoverable by other devices.
  2. To clear all Bluetooth pairings, apply a long press on the Tuning control (7). Choose 'Clear Pairing'.

Step 4: Selecting Menu Options

General procedure for accessing and navigating menus:

  1. Apply a long press on the Tuning / Menu control (7) to access the menu system.
  2. Rotate the Tuning control (7) to highlight an option.
  3. Press the Tuning control (7) to select the highlighted option.
  4. To exit a menu, apply a long press on the Tuning control (7) or select the 'Back' option.

DAB menu options

When in DAB mode, apply a long press on the Tuning / Menu control (7) to access DAB menu options.

  • Scan: Scans the Band III DAB channels.
  • Prune: Removes unavailable stations from the list.
  • DAB Advanced:
    • Manual Tune: Select a specific DAB channel. Signal strength is displayed.
    • Station Order: Choose how stations are listed (Alphanumeric, Ensemble, Valid).
    • DRC (Dynamic Range Control): Adjusts volume for quieter sounds in noisy environments ('Off', 'Low', 'High'). Not all DAB broadcasts use DRC.

FM menu options

When in FM mode, apply a long press on the Tuning / Menu control (7) to access FM menu options.

  • Scan Setting: Choose 'Distant' (scans weak and strong signals) or 'Local' (scans for stations with good reception).

Preset radio stations

The radio has 20 memory presets (10 for DAB, 10 for FM), which are retained during power loss.

To store a preset:

  1. Tune to the desired radio station.
  2. Apply a long press on the Tuning / Menu control (7).
  3. Choose 'Save Preset'.
  4. Use the Tuning control (7) to select an unused preset number or one to overwrite.
  5. Press the Tuning control (7) to save. A confirmation message will appear.

To recall a preset:

  1. Select DAB or FM mode.
  2. Apply a long press on the Tuning / Menu control (7).
  3. Choose 'Recall Preset'.
  4. Use the Tuning control (7) to scroll to the desired preset.
  5. Press the Tuning control (7) to select and play the station.

System settings

Apply a long press on the Tuning / Menu control (7) to access system settings.

  • Sleep Timer: Set the radio to turn off automatically after a preset time (15-120 minutes). The sleep symbol [sleep symbol] will appear on the display. To cancel, press the power button.
  • Brightness: Adjust the display brightness level.
  • Time Update: Set the time source to 'DAB', 'FM', or 'ANY'. The radio usually sets time from the DAB signal.
  • Language: Select the display language (e.g., English, Dansk, Français).
  • Factory Reset: Resets the radio to its initial state, erasing all user settings. Navigate to 'System' > 'Factory Reset' and select 'Yes'.
  • SW Version: Displays the software version (e.g., 'Revival Petite 15-V11-090A01-211A'). Press Tuning to exit.

Other Information

Factory Reset

To completely reset your radio to its initial state, navigate to 'System' > 'Factory Reset' and select 'Yes'. All user-entered settings will be erased.

Auto Power Off Note

If the unit is in Bluetooth or Auxiliary input stop mode for more than 15 minutes, it will automatically switch off. Press the Power button to use the radio again.

Auxiliary input

Connect a stereo or mono audio source to the Auxiliary input socket (11). Press and release the Mode button (8) until 'Aux In' mode is selected. Adjust the volume. Audio will be played in mono through the speaker.

Battery safety

Please also read the safety leaflet provided before charging your radio.

  • Do not puncture, crush, modify, or subject the battery to unnecessary shock. Mishandling may cause fire, explosion, or chemical burns.
  • Do not dispose of the battery in fire or incinerator.
  • Do not leave, charge, or expose the battery to heat sources (e.g., car in direct sunlight) or moisture.
  • Do not use or charge if the battery appears abnormally hot, swollen, leaking, or damaged.
  • Do not leave a charging battery unattended. Do not use alternative power sources as chargers.
  • Charge within a room temperature range of 5-35°C (41-95°F).
  • Note: Reduced power, distortion, stuttering sounds, or a low battery indicator suggest the battery needs recharging.

  • The symbol [DC voltage symbol] indicates DC voltage.
  • Care Instructions: Handle with care. The leather-cloth finish may be susceptible to damage. Avoid abrasive materials, chemical substances, or cleaning solutions. Wipe with a clean, lightly damp cloth. Ensure the product is unplugged before cleaning.
  • The name plate is located underneath the radio.
