Important Safety Information

Read this and other device guides carefully. Failure to follow Aeotec Limited's recommendations may be dangerous or violate the law. Aeotec Limited, its importers, distributors, and resellers are not responsible for any loss or damage resulting from non-compliance with instructions.

Keep the product and batteries away from open flames and extreme heat. Avoid direct sunlight or heat exposure. Improper battery use can damage the product.

WallMote and WallMote Quad are intended for indoor use in dry locations only. Do not use in damp, moist, or wet locations. Do not power permanently. Do not charge for more than 3 hours at a time. Do not apply permanent power.

Quick Start: Installing your WallMote

Follow these steps to install your WallMote:

  1. Select a suitable place or wall to affix your WallMote Back Mount plate.
  2. Clean the surfaces for the double-sided tape. Wipe both surfaces with a damp towel to remove oil or dust. Once the surface is completely dry, peel one side of the tape and attach it to the corresponding section on the rear of the Back Mounting Plate.

Adding your WallMote to your Z-Wave network

Once your mounting plates are prepared, you can add the WallMote to your Z-Wave network:

  1. Initiate pairing/inclusion mode on your Z-Wave primary controller/gateway.
  2. Bring your WallMote close to your primary controller. Press the Action Button once on the WallMote; the LED will blink green.
  3. If successfully added, the green LED will be solid for 2 seconds then turn off. If unsuccessful, the red LED will be solid for 2 seconds then turn off. Repeat steps if necessary.

After successful integration, you can configure the WallMote via your smart home control software or phone application. Refer to your software's user guide for specific instructions.

Attach your WallMote to its Back Mounting plate

With the WallMote added to your Z-Wave network, insert the main unit into the Back Mount plate. Align the main unit to the top-left of the Back Mounting plate and push it in. The WallMote will be secured by the magnets on the plate.

Advanced Functions

Send a wake up notification

To send new configuration commands to your WallMote from your Z-Wave controller/gateway, it needs to be woken up. Remove the WallMote from its Back Mounting Plate, press and hold the Action Button on the back for 3 seconds (you will hear a buzzer chirp and the orange LED will turn ON), then release. This sends a wake-up notification command. The WallMote will remain awake for 10 minutes, indicated by a fast-blinking orange LED (unless it receives a "Wake Up No More Info" command from the primary Controller).

Removing your WallMote from a Z-Wave network

You can remove your WallMote from your Z-Wave network at any time using your Z-Wave network's main controller/gateway. Consult your gateway's manual for specific device removal instructions.

  1. Put your primary controller into device removal mode.
  2. Unlock the WallMote from the Back Mount plate and bring it near your primary controller.
  3. Press the Action Button on your WallMote.
  4. Successful removal is indicated by a colorful LED gradient for a few seconds, followed by the LED turning off. Unsuccessful removal results in a solid red LED for 2 seconds, then off. Repeat steps if necessary.

Including WallMote as a non-secure device

To include WallMote as a non-security device, press the Action Button once when using a controller/gateway for addition/inclusion. The green LED will be on for 2 seconds, followed by a 10-minute fast-blinking orange LED (if no "Wake Up No More Info" command is received).

Including WallMote as a secure device

For full functionality, include WallMote as a security device using secure/encrypted messages. This requires a security-enabled controller/gateway. Press the WallMote Action Button twice within 1 second when your security controller/gateway starts network inclusion. The blue LED will be on for 2 seconds, followed by a 10-minute fast-blinking orange LED (if no "Wake Up No More Info" command is received).

Advanced Parameter Configurations

Some gateways allow further configuration of Z-Wave devices. The WallMote offers several parameter configurations:

Touch beep

Enables or disables sound effects when touching the sensing area. Default is enabled.

Parameter 1 [1 byte]: 0: Disable, 1: Enable (default setting).

Note: Sound effects can also be toggled by pressing and holding the Action Button for 12 seconds (buzzer chirp, red LED fast blink) and releasing.

Touch vibration

Enables or disables vibration effects when touching the sensing area. Default is enabled.

Parameter 2 [1 byte]: 0: Disable, 1: Enable (default setting).

Note: Vibration effects can also be toggled by pressing and holding the Action Button for 17 seconds (buzzer chirp, red LED solid) and releasing.

Button slide function

Enables or disables the button slide function.

Parameter 3 [1 byte]: 0: Disable, 1: Enable (Default Setting).

WallMote Reports

Configures the reports sent when pressing WallMote Quads buttons.

Parameter 4 [1 byte]: 1: Send Central Scene Command notification (Default Setting), 3: Send Central Scene Command notification and Configuration Report.

Association Table of the Control Buttons

The WallMote supports 5 association groups. Control buttons can activate configured scenes by sending Central Scene Notifications to the primary controller/gateway (in association group 1). Ensure your gateway or software supports setting Association Groups (e.g., Vera Group Association Setup at Vera UI7 Group Association). This allows direct ON/OFF or Dimming commands to devices without going through the gateway.

Control buttons can also send commands to devices in other association groups:

Association GroupControl ButtonControl CommandsDescription
1 (Lifeline)Button 1Central Scene Notification to 2Central Scene control via Button 1 to 2
2Button 1Basic SetOn/Off control via Button 1
3Button 1Multilevel Switch SetDimmer control via Button 1
4Button 2Basic SetOn/Off control via Button 2
5Button 2Multilevel Switch SetDimmer control via Button 2

Dimmer control via sliding the button area

The WallMote supports sliding control. When Parameter 4 [1 byte] is set to 3, you can slide up or down on the button area to control a dimmer device. Sliding up increases the dimmer level by a certain percentage, while sliding down decreases it.

Diagram Description: An illustration depicts two sliding controls with up and down arrows, representing the dimmer control functionality.

This functionality is suitable for Group Association control and does not work with scene controls.

Your WallMote battery.

The WallMote has an internal rechargeable lithium battery. Charge it using a micro USB terminal with an output of DC 5V/1A. The orange LED indicates charging; when the orange LED is off and the green LED is on, the battery is fully charged.

Note: An orange LED blink when touching buttons indicates low battery. A blue LED blink indicates a normal battery level.

Waking up WallMote

To configure the WallMote, you must wake it up using the following button press sequence:

  1. Press and hold the WallMote Action button.
  2. Wait until the RGB LED turns Yellow/Orange and beeps.
  3. Release the WallMote Action Button.

The WallMote's LED will now rapidly blink Yellow/Orange, indicating it is awake. You can now send configurations or commands from your gateway. To return the WallMote to sleep, tap the Action Button or wait 10 minutes (manual sleep is recommended for battery conservation).

Testing Health Connectivity

You can check your WallMote's connectivity health to your gateway using a manual button press, hold, and release function indicated by LED color. This helps optimize battery life.

  1. Press and hold the WallMote Action button.
  2. Wait until the RGB LED turns Purple.
  3. Release the WallMote Action Button.

The RGB LED will blink purple while sending ping messages. Upon completion, it will blink one of three colors:

  • Red = Bad Health
  • Yellow = Moderate Health
  • Green = Great Health

Observe the blink, as it occurs only once very quickly.

Resetting your WallMote

If your primary controller is missing or inoperable, you can factory reset your WallMote to remove it from its paired network and restore default settings. Follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Action button for 20 seconds.
  2. The LED will cycle through green, purple, then red, flashing rapidly until a solid green LED appears for 2 seconds, indicating a successful reset.
  3. Release the Action Button.
