The Doorbell 6 offers IP55 water protection, making it suitable for outdoor use, but it should not be exposed to heavy and penetrative rain. The device is constructed with nylon; keep it away from open flames and extreme heat. Avoid direct sunlight or heat exposure. The chime function is intended for indoor use in dry locations only. Do not use in damp, moist, and/or wet locations.
Warning: Contains small parts; keep away from children.
Quick Start Guide
Getting your Doorbell 6 up and running involves plugging it into a wall socket and linking it to your existing Z-Wave network. For detailed instructions on adding new devices to your Z-Wave network, please refer to your Z-Wave Controller's manual.
Step 1: Install Mounting Plate
Choose a suitable location for the mounting plate.
Installation Instructions
Installing the Doorbell 6 Unit
- Affix the Doorbell 6 Wall Mount Plate in your desired location, ensuring it is near a power outlet.
- Use either three 20mm screws or double-sided tape to secure the plate.
- Lock the Doorbell 6 unit into place onto the installed mount.
Installing the Action Button
To avoid UV damage and reduced battery performance, avoid exposing the Action Button to direct sunlight where possible.
- Select an installation location for the Action Button, but do not install it yet.
- Power on the Action Button: Remove the two screws from the rear of the button to open its battery cover. Install the provided CR2450 battery with the positive (+) terminal facing upwards. Replace the battery cover and secure it with the two screws.
- Test the wireless connection by pressing the Action Button. This should trigger a doorbell alert. If the connection is poor, select an alternative installation location for the Button or Chime.
- Install the Action Button: Affix its mounting plate to the selected surface using either two 20mm screws or double-sided tape. Lock the Action Button onto its mounting plate.
Pairing with your Z-Wave Network
Follow these steps to integrate your Doorbell 6 into your existing Z-Wave network:
- Power the Doorbell 6 using the provided power adapter.
- Confirm that the Doorbell 6 LED is blinking slowly, indicating it's ready for pairing.
- Set your Z-Wave gateway or controller into "pair" or "add device" mode. Consult your gateway's manual for specific instructions.
- Tap the Action Button on the Doorbell 6 once.
- If your gateway supports S2 encryption, you may be prompted to enter the first 5 digits of the DSK (Device Specific Key), which is printed on the Doorbell 6 unit, into your gateway's interface to complete the S2 encrypted pairing.
- Upon successful pairing, the Doorbell 6 LED will display a solid color for 30 seconds before turning off. If pairing fails, the LED will continue to blink slowly.
Once paired, your Doorbell 6 can be configured through your home control software. Refer to your software's user guide for detailed configuration instructions.
Advanced Operations
Removing your Doorbell from a Z-Wave Network
You can remove your Doorbell 6 from your Z-Wave network at any time. It is recommended to use your gateway's unpair or exclusion function to prevent issues with phantom or failed nodes.
- Place your Z-Wave gateway or controller into "unpair" or "exclusion" mode. Refer to your controller's manual for instructions.
- Press the Action Button on your Doorbell 6 six times within a 2-second period.
If the unpairing is successful, the Doorbell 6 LED will begin to blink slowly, indicating it is ready to be paired again.
Testing Doorbell 6 Sound Manually
You can manually test the sound output of your Doorbell 6, whether it is paired to a Z-Wave network or not.
- Press and hold the Action Button down for 2-5 seconds.
Safety Warning: Perform this test only while wearing necessary ear protection. The Doorbell 6 speaker can emit tones up to 105dB, which can cause hearing damage.
Resetting your Doorbell 6
This reset method is generally advised only if your Z-Wave gateway has failed and you cannot perform a general unpair. Follow these steps:
- Press and hold the Action Button for 20 seconds.
- [2-5 seconds]: The test Doorbell sound will play and then stop after 5 seconds.
- [5-20 seconds]: The LED will begin to blink faster, increasing in speed from 5 to 10 seconds, and then from 10 to 20 seconds.
- [21 seconds and later]: The LED will flash 3 times quickly, then enter a breathing (in and out) pattern while you continue to hold the button.
- Release the Action Button. The Doorbell 6 will perform a factory reset.
Adding More Buttons
The Doorbell 6 supports up to three Aeotec Buttons. Your unit comes with one Aeotec Button, and you can purchase two additional buttons to control a single Siren/Doorbell 6 sound unit.
