Mounting
General Mounting
Before mounting the Lille Viking, the wheelchair should be adapted to the user's needs regarding seating comfort and driving characteristics. Consider that the wheelchair will be used outdoors when mounting leg rests and anti-tip devices. In some cases, adjustments may be necessary, such as moving the drive wheels in their mounts to provide sufficient space under the chair.
The wheelchair's caster wheels must not be smaller than specified in the combination agreement.
Information on which chairs can be combined with the Lille Viking and which mounting kit applies can be found in our combination overview at www.etac.com.
Each mounting kit includes specific mounting instructions detailing special points for that particular installation. The following mounting instructions describe the general steps to consider in addition to the information provided with the mounting kits.
Front Attachment - Front Bracket
- Mount the front brackets as far forward on the frame as possible, with the holes facing down.
- If the brackets interfere with caster wheel rotation, move the brackets slightly backward or turn them with the hole facing up.
- Generally, mount brackets on the inside of the frame for a better overview when mounting the crossbar, angled mounting tube, and drawbar.
- On narrow chairs, it may be necessary to place the brackets on the outside to provide enough space for the crossbar.
- Install the tube protectors first, as they protect the tubes and ensure a secure and stable attachment. It is helpful to secure the tube protectors with tape for easier handling.
[info] During initial mounting, it is beneficial to fasten screws loosely. This makes adjustment easier before final tightening. When fastening brackets, ensure equal load on both nuts. Do not overtighten screws to the point of damaging the tubes.
Front Attachment - Crossbar
- With the brackets in place, mount the front crossbar with the telescopic rods in the holes.
- Before tightening the screws, adjust the telescopic rods so the distance is equal on both sides.
- Ensure the telescopic rods insert at least 50 mm into the crossbar's tube before tightening the screws.
- Check that the telescopic rod has enough clearance in the crossbar to move freely during mounting/disassembly.
- If there is enough space but the telescopic rod does not insert 50 mm into the crossbar, you can either mount the brackets on the inside or use longer telescopic rods.
- If there is not enough space, you can either mount the brackets on the outside or cut one of the telescopic rods.
Front Attachment - Angle Bracket and Drawbar
- With the crossbar mounted in the brackets, slide the angle bracket in from underneath through the coupling tube.
- If the vertical tube is too long or high and conflicts with, for example, the tilt function, it can be cut above the mount. If it is too short, it can be replaced with a longer/higher model.
- Slide the drawbar into the horizontal part of the angle bracket and lightly fasten the screw.
- Ensure the rounded and beveled part is mounted as shown in the illustration.
- If the drawbar interferes with the chair's footrest (is too long forward), the part protruding forward of the angle piece can be cut off.
Motor Mounting
- Slide the motor unit with the battery together, and connect the battery contacts (see page 6).
- Slide the Lille Viking onto the drawbar.
- If the release handle is mounted, slide the motor part onto the drawbar until it "clicks" into place.
- If the release handle is not mounted, gently slide the motor part onto the drawbar until it meets resistance. Manually open the drawbar snap lock and slide the motor part into place.
- Slide the motor unit forward so that the center of the drive wheels aligns with the center of the wheelchair's drive wheels. This may not always be possible, but the deviation should be as small as possible, less than +/-5 cm.
- Ensure there is a 3-4 cm gap on each side of the motor unit to avoid contact with other parts of the wheelchair. Pay special attention to the clearance with the cross on cross-frame chairs. Also, ensure the motor unit is centered longitudinally. If not, adjust the brackets in the front attachment.
- If there is insufficient length under the chair for the motor unit, this can be resolved by following these three steps in sequence:
- Unscrew the battery box handle.
- Turn the crossbar forward.
- Turn the angle bracket forward.
- Adjust the height of the angle bracket so that the drawbar slopes slightly upward at the front, which helps it handle unevenness and obstacles better.
- The crossbar can be mounted in several positions, providing further options for positioning the drive motor. If the angle piece is not high enough, the crossbar can be turned downwards.
- Re-check that there is sufficient clearance around the motor unit after the final adjustment. Tighten all screws.
Release Handle Mounting
The release handle has three positions: Driving, Mounting, and Disconnected.
Rear Attachment
The rear attachment can vary in design depending on the specific chair it is mounted on. Detailed mounting instructions are provided with each mounting kit.
After the Lille Viking is mounted under the chair, the rear brackets can be mounted.
- Insert the mounting brackets into the pressure part.
- Insert the hoop stops into the mounting brackets.
- Mount the assembled parts into the attachment arms.
- The lower edge of the pressure part should be approximately 48 cm above the floor.
- Tighten the lock levers on the attachment arms.
- Adjust the pressure part laterally, ensuring the mount is centered and vertical.
- Connect the rear attachment to the Lille Viking. The entire assembly can now be adjusted.
- Place the pressure part in the mounting position, with the release handle pointing horizontally backward. Tighten the screws.
- Lift the release handle so the Lille Viking is clear of the floor (approx. 2-3 cm).
- If the Lille Viking does not stop in the lifted position, adjust by lowering the pressure part's attachment so the handle is higher.
- Push the release handle down to the driving position so the Lille Viking is pressed against the floor. Continue pushing the handle down to the driving position, pressing the Lille Viking against the floor.
- The gas spring should be approximately half compressed when the lever is in the lowest position.
- If the motor unit does not stop at the lowest position against the floor, adjust by raising the pressure part's attachment so the handle is lower.
- Tighten the hoop stops.
- Ensure all screws are tightened and check all functions after mounting the Lille Viking to the wheelchair.
Steering Box Mounting
The steering box on the Lille Viking is mounted on the wheelchair's handlebars using the supplied bracket and connected to the drive unit via the spiral cable.
- Mount the steering box bracket onto the tube in front of the handlebar.
- Mount the steering box onto the bracket by inserting the lock tab into the bracket's hole. The throttle lever should point backward.
- By changing the steering box's angle, adjust the throttle regulator's grip for opening.
- Tighten the lock wheel to secure the steering box. Ensure the throttle lever is free and cannot snag on anything, such as a rubber handlebar grip.
- Connect the steering box to the motor using a 6-pin plug. Rotate the connector so the arrow marking points towards the lock and push it in.
- When dismounting the steering box, press the safety latch and pull the connector out.
User Handbook
This section of the manual (User Handbook) is intended to be detached and always accompany the drive unit. It contains important user information.

Battery Indicator
The Lille Viking is equipped with a battery indicator showing the current power supply. The indicator shows a red bar (LED indicator) moving in 10 steps from right to left.
- When the battery is fully charged, the rightmost LED indicator lights up (100% charge).
- As the battery level drops, the next LED indicator to the left lights up. Only one lights up at a time.
- When the second LED lamp from the left blinks, it indicates that the battery is in the reserve power range (30% charge).
- When the two leftmost LED lamps blink alternately, it indicates that the battery is nearly empty (20% charge).
- [warning] Check that the charger's LED lamp is green to indicate that the batteries are fully charged.
Power Save Mode
If the drive unit is switched on without being used, it enters power save mode after 5 minutes. Turn the speed regulator back to OFF, and then restart the steering box (ON) to exit power save mode.
Starting the Drive Unit
- Turn the key on the main power switch clockwise/counter-clockwise to turn the power on/off. The main power switch is marked with a red and a yellow circle.
- Turn on the speed regulator on the steering box.
- The indicator lamp will light up green, indicating that the drive unit is switched on and ready for use.
Release Handle
[warning] Risk of pinching fingers when using the release handle to activate the Lille Viking.
The release handle has three positions:
- Driving position: The drive unit is pressed down against the surface, ensuring the motor drives the wheelchair forward and maintains braking effect.
- Mounting position: The release handle is adjusted horizontally. The drive unit rests against the surface without pressure.
- Disconnected position: The release handle is adjusted upwards. The drive unit lifts up and hangs freely, not affecting the wheelchair.
Transport in Vehicle
The Lille Viking is collision tested and approved according to ISO 7176-19. The test was performed with a securing device (UNWIN_WWR/ATF/K/R) for the wheelchair and a three-point seatbelt (907523 Klippan Safety AB) for the user, along with a battery holder for the Lille Viking.
Etac recommends the following sequence:
- The user is moved to a car seat and uses the vehicle's three-point seatbelt during transport. The drive unit is then placed in the trunk or back seat securely, so it cannot tip or roll.
- If a wheelchair approved as a vehicle seat according to ISO 7176-19 is used, the Lille Viking can remain mounted on the wheelchair. The Lille Viking must be secured to the car with fastening straps approved according to ISO 10542.
Requirements:
- The Lille Viking must be secured with separate straps according to:
- Lille Viking Low Bow: Fasten the straps around the hoop on the marked surfaces (illustration 1).
- Lille Viking Flat Bow: Fasten the straps around the transport bracket (illustration 2).
- The wheelchair and user must be secured according to the wheelchair manufacturer's instructions.
- The release handle must be in the driving position.
- Turn off the power at the main switch.
- The "Transport Securing" accessory must be used.
Driving - Use
In addition to the instructions for the Lille Viking, read and follow the user instructions for the connected drive unit before use. This section describes only how to operate the drive unit, not how to handle the wheelchair. User manuals for Etac wheelchairs are available at www.etac.com.
- [warning] Check the wheelchair brakes and ensure they are released before using the drive unit.
- [warning] Risk of tipping! Always keep the anti-tip device activated.
- Choose a speed that feels safe and comfortable for you and the "passenger".
- Plan the drive to ensure a comfortable trip and experience for the "passenger".
Remember that the Lille Viking pulls the wheelchair forward. The wheelchair moves forward automatically when you use the throttle regulator. You only need to follow the wheelchair and steer it. The wheelchair stops immediately when you release the throttle regulator.
- If you take a break while driving, turn off the power by switching off the motor with the ON/OFF regulator.
- If you are parking or ending the drive, turn off the power using the main switch. Always park on a flat surface and use the wheelchair's parking brakes.
- Never try to hold the unit back.
[warning] Release the throttle handle in any uncertain situation.
[info] If the wheelchair needs to be maneuvered freely manually, set the drive unit to the disconnected position.
[info] Motor wheels may slip on slippery surfaces.
Driving - Overcoming Obstacles
- [prohibited] Do not attempt to overcome high curbs.
- Choose curbs that are low or sloped. Ensure the footrest does not collide with the ramp or curb.
- If there are no sloped curbs where you intend to drive, set the drive unit to disconnected mode.
Driving - Uphill and Downhill
- Be aware that driving uphill, downhill, or on a side slope affects the user's seating position.
- Reduce pressure on the throttle regulator when driving downhill so that the drive unit brakes.
- If the motor is set to a low speed and requires more power, for example, on a steep incline, turn the speed regulator to gain more power.
- Do not release the throttle regulator completely, as the motor will stop and the wheels will slip on the surface.
- Be aware that the chair will move faster and increase speed when the surface becomes flat again.
- When driving up ramps, the wheelchair should be driven forward.
- When driving down ramps, the wheelchair should be reversed.
Disassembly
Disassembly of Drive Unit
The drive unit can be easily detached from the wheelchair. Ensure the power is switched off before starting disassembly.
- Press the spiral cable connector latch and then pull the steering box connector out of the motor.
- Set the release handle to the mounting position.
- Loosen the gas strut by pulling the snap lock and angling it up towards the back of the wheelchair.
- Push the release handle towards the motor and roll the chair forward.
- The drive unit is now detached from the wheelchair.
- Once the drive unit is detached from the wheelchair, lift the drawbar. The drawbar connects to the gas strut at the rear of the chair.
