2. Safety Precautions
IMPORTANT: Always observe safety precautions when working with electrical circuits. Failure to do so can result in severe injury or death.
- Always ensure the multimeter is set to the correct function and range before measurement.
- Never measure resistance or continuity when voltage is present in the circuit.
- Do not exceed the maximum input values specified for voltage, current, or resistance.
- Inspect test leads and probes for damage before each use. If damaged, do not use.
- When measuring voltage, start with the highest range and work down if necessary.
- Avoid touching exposed conductors or terminals when the multimeter is connected to a live circuit.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses.
- Ensure the battery is correctly installed and the cover is secured.
- Disconnect test leads from the circuit before changing the battery or fuses.
- Do not use the multimeter in wet or humid conditions.
- The Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) function is a preliminary indicator and should be confirmed with other methods if necessary.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Connecting the Test Leads
The multimeter comes with red (+) and black (-) test leads. Connect the black lead to the COM (Common) jack and the red lead to the appropriate jack (VΩmA, 10A) depending on the measurement.
- For Voltage, Resistance, Capacitance, Frequency, Diode, Continuity, and NCV measurements, connect the red lead to the VΩmA jack.
- For current measurements up to 400mA, connect the red lead to the VΩmA jack.
- For current measurements up to 10A, connect the red lead to the 10A jack.
5.2 Selecting Functions and Ranges
Turn the rotary dial to select the desired measurement function (e.g., VDC, VAC, Ω). The DM130B features auto-ranging, meaning it will automatically select the appropriate range for the measurement. If manual ranging is desired or necessary, press the RANGE button.
5.3 Measuring DC Voltage [VDC]
- Connect the black test lead to COM and the red test lead to VΩmA.
- Turn the dial to the VDC position.
- Connect the test leads across the component or circuit to be measured. The red lead connects to the positive (+) terminal and the black lead to the negative (-) terminal.
- Read the voltage value on the LCD display.
5.4 Measuring AC Voltage [VAC]
- Connect the black test lead to COM and the red test lead to VΩmA.
- Turn the dial to the VAC position.
- Connect the test leads across the component or circuit to be measured. Polarity is not critical for AC voltage.
- Read the voltage value on the LCD display.
5.5 Measuring Resistance [Ω]
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized and capacitors are discharged.
- Connect the black test lead to COM and the red test lead to VΩmA.
- Turn the dial to the Ω position.
- Connect the test leads across the resistor.
- Read the resistance value on the LCD display. If the display shows "OL", the resistance is higher than the selected range.
5.6 Continuity Test [?]
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
- Connect the black test lead to COM and the red test lead to VΩmA.
- Turn the dial to the continuity symbol (often looks like a sound wave or diode symbol).
- Connect the test leads across the component. If the resistance is less than approximately 30Ω, the multimeter will emit a beep, indicating continuity.
5.7 Diode Test [⚡]
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
- Connect the black test lead to COM and the red test lead to VΩmA.
- Turn the dial to the diode symbol.
- Connect the red lead to the anode and the black lead to the cathode of the diode. A forward voltage drop (typically 0.5V-0.8V for silicon diodes) will be displayed.
- Reverse the leads. The display should show "OL" (open loop) if the diode is good.
5.8 Measuring Capacitance [F]
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized and capacitors are discharged.
- Connect the black test lead to COM and the red test lead to the VΩmA jack.
- Turn the dial to the capacitance (F) position.
- Connect the test leads across the capacitor, observing polarity for electrolytic capacitors.
- Read the capacitance value on the LCD display.
5.9 Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection [⚡]
- Turn the dial to the NCV position (often indicated by a lightning bolt or similar symbol).
- Bring the sensing end of the multimeter near a conductor.
- If AC voltage is detected, the multimeter will emit an audible alarm and/or flash a light. The sensitivity can often be adjusted by moving the sensor closer or further away.
5.10 Data Hold [?]
Press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to resume normal operation.
6. Maintenance and Care
6.1 Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator [?] appears on the display, replace the 9V battery. Ensure the multimeter is off and test leads are disconnected. Open the battery compartment cover, remove the old battery, and insert a new one, observing correct polarity. Secure the cover.
6.2 Cleaning
Clean the multimeter casing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the device is dry before use.
6.3 Probe Care
Keep the test leads clean and free from damage. Replace them if the insulation is cracked or frayed.
