Installation Instructions
Step 1: Preparation and Initial Assembly
Check all parts for damage incurred during transport. Ensure parts D, E, Q, T, and R are correctly identified and prepared for assembly. Use screws Q (M6, 4x) and T (6.4x12.5x1.6, 10x) for initial connections.
Step 2: Attaching Main Support Arms
Connect the left support arm (B) and right support arm (C) to the main base frame (A). Ensure correct orientation (Left/Right) and secure using parts L (2x) and P (M6x95, 4x).
Step 3: Installing the Upper Rail
Attach the upper rail (G) to the support arms (B, C). Secure with parts L (2x), I, and P.
Step 4: Securing the Frame
Attach the frame securing components (N, N2) to the appropriate points on the carrier structure.
Step 5: Vehicle Placement
Measure and position the Carry-Bike on the rear of the vehicle, ensuring correct placement. Use part Y (4x) for initial securing.
Step 6: Tailgate Operation and Lower Bracket Attachment
Open the vehicle's tailgate (labeled "OPEN" ➡️). Carefully attach the lower brackets. This may require pulling the structure downwards ⬇️. Ensure the fastening is secure. Use part Y (2x) for securing.
Step 7: Final Securing of Lower Brackets
Continue securing the lower brackets. Ensure the structure is pulled down and the fastening is firm and steady. Multilingual instructions emphasize not to undo screws completely.
Step 8: Tightening Screws
Firmly tighten all screws and bolts. Multilingual instructions advise to "Tighten the screws firmly." ??
Step 9: Alignment Check
Check the correct alignment of the bracket with the vehicle's tailgate. Visual indicators show correct (thumbs up ?) and incorrect (thumbs down ?) alignment.
Step 10: Fork Attachment
Attach the bike forks using part F. WARNING: Do not fully tighten the fork to the tube; leave 2mm space. Multilingual warnings confirm this. ⚠️
Step 11: Attaching Bike Holders
Install the bike holders (O, O2, O3) onto the rails. Follow the detailed diagrams showing the rotation and locking mechanisms for O and O2. ⚙️
Instructions for Use & Safety
General Safety:
- Always read and follow all instructions and warnings.
- Ensure the product is compatible with your vehicle before installation.
- Check for any damage to the product after an accident and contact your dealer if found.
- Fiamma is not liable for damages caused by product modifications or improper use.
- Verify the vehicle's rear wall/door is strong enough for anchoring points. Reinforce if necessary.
- Do not exceed vehicle's maximum permitted length or total weight.
- Distribute bike weight uniformly, placing heavier bikes closer to the vehicle for stability.
- Always signal the presence of the carrier and bikes, especially if rear visibility is reduced. Use additional mirrors if needed.
- Be aware of the carrier's presence when driving, especially when reversing.
- Comply with speed limits and traffic laws. Adjust speed to conditions.
- Periodically check the rack's attachment, especially after initial use and long trips. Replace worn components.
- Ensure support brackets do not move or touch vehicle parts like roof, hinges, or bolts.
- Do not close the tailgate if screws/brackets are not tightened, to avoid damaging lights.
- Ensure the carrier does not interfere with the tailgate opening mechanism or roof.
- Maintain sufficient distance between bike handlebars/pedals and vehicle windows to prevent damage. Remove loose accessories from bikes.
- Rear windscreen wipers may be affected by bike placement; check wiper radius.
- Bike covers are not allowed on this model.
- Remove bicycle batteries before transport.
- Check rear light visibility; use a repeater bar if necessary.
- The tailgate can be opened with the carrier mounted but without bikes.
- Rotate bike handlebars to prevent damage to the vehicle wall.
Specific Advice for Electric Tailgates:
Contact your VW dealer before assembly to check the gas pistons' seal and wear, as they may need replacement with stronger ones to support the bike carrier's weight. Ensure careful installation and check lower bracket adherence during automatic tailgate closure to avoid damaging rear lights.
Load Indicators: The carrier is equipped with indicators for load capacity (e.g., 4 bikes max 15kg, 2 bikes max 30kg, 60kg total max).
