Section 1: Pole Assembly

Hardware Required

AOL (x2), ADS (x1), AOM (x1), CIH (x1)

Parts Required

Metal Parts: ALH (x1) [Top section, 43"], ALF (x1) [Middle section, 43"], ALE (x1) [Bottom section, 43"]. Note: Do not remove the top section (ALH) from the middle section (ALF).

Plastic Parts: BFN (x1) [Adjustment knob]

Step 1.1: Joining Pole Sections

Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the mandrel from the plastic rivet at the top of the top pole (ALH). Discard the mandrel and rivet. If the top and middle pole sections separate, insert the top pole up through the middle pole as shown in the diagram.

Step 1.2: Attaching Hardware

Slide the top pole section (ALH) out of the middle pole section (ALF) enough to access the holes at the bottom of the middle pole. Attach the indicated hardware.

Step 1.3: Attaching Adjustment Knob

Position the top pole section (ALH) at its lowest height. Attach the adjustment knob (BFN) to the top pole section and the middle pole section (ALF) using the indicated hardware.

Do not overtighten the cap nut. If the bolt breaks through the plastic cap, call Customer Service. Exposed threads can cause injury.

Step 1.4: Aligning and Securing

Align the hole in the middle pole section (ALF) with the slot in the bottom pole section (ALE). Install the domed countersunk washer (CIH) with the hardware. The screw should be flush with the pole and spin freely.

Step 1.5: Seating the Pole Assembly

THIS STEP CANNOT BE REVERSED!

Strike the end of the pole assembly on a piece of scrap wood or cardboard five to six times to seat the sections. Do not hit your feet with the pole sections, as serious injury could occur.

WARNING: Poles must be seated together. Failure to seat poles correctly could allow them to separate during use, leading to serious injury or property damage.

Section 2: Backboard-to-Rim Assembly

Hardware Required

APO (x1), APP (x1), APJ (x2), ABD (x9), APG (x2), APQ (x2), AAO (x5), APN (x3)

Parts Required

Metal Parts: ALX (x1) [Rim]

Plastic Parts: AJI (x1) [Backboard], BFM (x2) [Backboard brace]

Step 2.1: Attaching Rim to Backboard

Insert the rim (ALX) into the slots on the front of the backboard (AJI) at a 45-degree angle. Insert rim brackets into the backboard one at a time. The rim braces should fit within the backboard notches.

Step 2.2 & 2.3: Securing Backboard and Rim

Have one adult hold the backboard and rim assembly. Place the top pole (ALH) between the rim brackets and align holes with the backboard (AJI). Insert bolts (APO, APP) through the rim, backboard, and into the top pole as indicated.

Step 2.4 & 2.5: Attaching Braces

Attach the rim to the backboard and top pole (ALH) using nuts (AAO, APN) and washers (ABD). Secure the rim brackets and rim braces to the top pole (ALH) with the indicated hardware.

Step 2.6 & 2.7: Attaching Second Brace

Insert bolt (APQ) into the backboard (AJI). Slide backboard brace (BFM) over the bolt and secure it to the backboard (AJI) and rim brackets with hardware. Lay the assembly on its side.

Step 2.8: Repeat and Tighten

Repeat steps 2.6 and 2.7 for the other backboard brace. Tighten all hardware.

Section 3: Pole-to-Base Assembly

Hardware Required

AOS (x1), EER (x4), AOR (x1), ABD (x4), AAO (x2), DXZ (x1), BFR (x2), EEO (x2), AOQ (x1), AON (x2), AAY (x1), AOP (x2), BTS (x1)

Parts Required

Metal Parts: ALI (x2), ALK (x1), ALJ (x1), BDB (x1) [Cross tube]

Plastic Parts: AJM (x1) [Base], BFP (x1) [Foot], BFO (x1) [Foot], AMU (x2) [Wheel], BFQ (x1) [Pole plug]

Step 3.1: Attaching Cross Tube

Attach the cross tube (BDB) to the left and right bottom pole braces (ALJ & ALK) using the indicated hardware. Tighten all hardware.

Step 3.2: Fitting Brace Assembly to Base

Fit the bottom pole brace assembly into the recesses on the underside of the base (AJM) as shown.

Step 3.3: Attaching Upper Braces

Attach the upper pole braces to the base and the bottom pole brace assembly using the shown hardware.

Step 3.4: Filling the Base

CAUTION: HAVE ONE ADULT HOLD THE POLE UNTIL THE BASE HAS BEEN FILLED WITH SAND OR WATER.

OPTION A: Fill with Sand

  1. Insert a base plug (AZY) into the base near the pole.
  2. Using a funnel, fill the base with sand through the furthest hole until sand is just below the hole.
  3. With two adults, stand the base up and finish filling with sand.
  4. Insert the last base plug (AZY).

OPTION B: Fill with Water

  1. Insert a base plug (AZY) into the base near the pole.
  2. Fill the base with cold water through the furthest hole until water is just below the hole.
  3. With two adults, stand the base up and finish filling with water until it overflows.
  4. Add one tablespoon of chlorine bleach to prevent algae.
  5. Insert the last base plug (AZY).

For safety, sand is recommended over water. Water leaks can cause the system to fall. For winter, drain water to prevent cracking.

Step 3.5: Attaching Upper Braces to Bottom Pole

Attach the upper pole braces to the bottom pole with the shown hardware. Tighten all hardware.

Step 3.6: Attaching Wheels

Insert an axle (BFR) into each wheel (AMU). Slide a washer (EER) onto both sides of the wheels as indicated.

Step 3.7: Installing Wheel Assemblies

Place the axle and wheel assemblies under the indentations at the back of the base. Step on the base to snap them into place.

Hardware Required

AZY (x2)

Parts Required

Plastic Parts: AKZ (x1) [Net]

Step 4.1: Attaching Net

Attach the net (AKZ) to the rim (ALX). If a replacement net is needed, contact Customer Service. Nets are shorter to reduce entanglement risk.

Step 4.2a: Filling Base with Sand

Follow the instructions in Section 3.4 for filling the base with sand.

Step 4.2b: Filling Base with Water

Follow the instructions in Section 3.4 for filling the base with water, including adding bleach.

Height Adjustment

The system may be adjusted from 7 1/2 feet (2.29 m) to 10 feet (3.05 m). ONLY ADULTS SHOULD ADJUST THE HEIGHT.

  1. Stand behind the system and pull the pole until the backboard rests on the ground.
  2. Remove the adjustment knob and carriage bolt. Adjust to desired height and replace.
  3. Ensure the adjustment knob is secure before returning the system to playing position.

Moving the System

WARNING: Only people capable of handling the weight should move the system. Children should not move it.

  1. Adjust the system to its lowest position.
  2. Stand behind the system and pull the pole to balance it on its wheels.
  3. Move to the desired location and carefully set the base down.

CAUTION: Move only on wheels. Sliding the base may cause damage, leakage, or tipping.

Maintenance

Check frequently for loose hardware, excessive wear, and signs of corrosion. Take preventive measures:

  • Check and tighten all nuts and bolts.
  • Inspect parts for wear; replace if necessary. Contact Customer Service for parts.
  • Inspect the warning sticker; request replacement if ripped, faded, or illegible.
  • Check pole sections for rust or chipped paint. If present:
    1. Remove rust/paint with emery cloth.
    2. Clean with a damp cloth and let dry.
    3. Apply two coats of rust-preventative enamel paint.

IF RUST HAS PENETRATED THE POLE ANYWHERE, REPLACE IT IMMEDIATELY!
