Care and Maintenance
- Dry the sensor thoroughly with a soft towel after each use to prevent moisture from keeping it activated and shortening battery life.
- Store the heart rate monitor in a warm, dry place, not in a plastic bag.
- Do not expose to direct sunlight for extended periods or to temperatures above 122° F (50° C) or below 14° F (-10° C).
- Do not excessively bend or stretch the sensor.
- To clean, use a damp cloth and mild soap, then wipe with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Never use alcohol, abrasives, or chemicals. Hand wash and air dry the chest strap.
Troubleshooting
- Ensure the monitor is worn correctly. If it doesn't function, try moving it slightly higher or lower on your chest.
- If readings only appear after perspiring, rewet the electrode areas.
- You must be within arm's length of the console for readings to display.
- If there's a battery cover, replace the battery with the same type.

- Magnetic interference from power lines or other sources can affect operation. Try relocating the equipment.
HOW TO USE THE ELLIPTICAL
How to Plug in the Power Cord
This product must be grounded. If it malfunctions or breaks down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. The power cord has a grounding pin.
? DANGER: Improper connection of the power cord increases the risk of electric shock. Do not modify the plug. If it will not fit an outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. If unsure about grounding, contact a qualified electrician.
Plug the power cord into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded according to local codes and ordinances. The outlet must be on a nominal 120-volt circuit.
A temporary adapter may be used to connect to a 2-pole receptacle if a properly grounded outlet is not available. The adapter's lug or wire must be connected with a metal screw to a permanent ground (e.g., a grounded outlet box cover). Before using an adapter, consult a qualified electrician to determine if the outlet box cover is grounded. Temporary adapters should only be used until a properly grounded outlet can be installed.
Diagram: Illustrations show a grounded outlet with a grounding pin and a 2-pole receptacle with an adapter.
How to Adjust the Positions of the Pedals
Each pedal can be adjusted to several positions. To adjust a pedal, pull the pedal handle outward, move the pedal to the desired position, and release the handle into an adjustment hole beneath the pedal. Ensure both pedals are adjusted to the same position.
Diagram: Shows the pedal handle mechanism.
How to Move the Elliptical
Moving the elliptical requires two persons due to its size and weight. Stand in front, hold the upright, and place one foot against a wheel. Have a second person lift the rear handle until the elliptical rolls on its wheels. Carefully move it to the desired location and lower it to the floor.
Diagram: Illustration showing where to lift and place foot for rolling.
How to Exercise on the Elliptical
To mount, hold the upper body arms or handlebars and step onto the lower pedal, then the other. Push the pedals to start a continuous motion. The crank arms can turn in either direction; turning them in the direction of the arrow is recommended, but variety can be achieved by turning them in the opposite direction.
To dismount, wait for the pedals to stop completely. Note: The elliptical does not have a freewheel; pedals continue to move until the flywheel stops. When stationary, step off the higher pedal first, then the lower pedal.

EXERCISE GUIDELINES
❗ WARNING: Before beginning this or any exercise program, consult your physician. This is especially important for persons over age 35 or persons with pre-existing health problems.
The heart rate monitor is not a medical device. Factors may affect accuracy. It is intended as an exercise aid for determining heart rate trends.
These guidelines help plan your exercise program. For detailed information, obtain a reputable book or consult your physician. Proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential for success.
Exercise Intensity
To burn fat or strengthen your cardiovascular system, exercising at the proper intensity is key. Use your heart rate as a guide.
Age (approx.) | 20s | 30s | 40s | 50s | 60s | 70s | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Heart Rate (bpm) | 165 | 155 | 145 | 140 | 130 | 125 | 115 |
Max Fat Burning | 145 | 138 | 130 | 125 | 118 | 110 | 103 |
Aerobic Exercise | 125 | 120 | 115 | 110 | 105 | 95 | 90 |
To find your intensity level, locate your age at the bottom. The three numbers above your age define your "training zone": lowest for fat burning, middle for maximum fat burning, highest for aerobic exercise.
Burning Fat
For effective fat burning, exercise at a low intensity for a sustained period. After the first few minutes, your body uses stored fat calories. Adjust intensity until heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone. For maximum fat burning, aim for the middle number.
Aerobic Exercise
To strengthen your cardiovascular system, perform aerobic exercise requiring large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods. Adjust intensity until heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone.
Workout Guidelines
Warming Up
Start with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise to increase body temperature, heart rate, and circulation.
Training Zone Exercise
Exercise for 20 to 30 minutes within your training zone. (For the first few weeks, do not exceed 20 minutes.) Breathe regularly and deeply; never hold your breath.
Cooling Down
Finish with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching to increase flexibility and prevent post-exercise problems.
Exercise Frequency
To maintain or improve condition, complete three workouts weekly with at least one rest day between. After a few months, you may increase to five workouts weekly. Make exercise a regular, enjoyable part of your life.
SUGGESTED STRETCHES
The correct form for several basic stretches is shown. Move slowly; never bounce.
- Toe Touch Stretch: Stand with knees slightly bent, bend forward from hips, reaching towards toes. Hold for 15 counts, relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Hamstrings, back of knees, back.
