Allmatic IRIS BAT / IRIS BAT ADV: Adjustable Infrared Photocell Manual
This document provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the Allmatic IRIS BAT and IRIS BAT ADV adjustable infrared photocells.
1. Description
The IRIS BAT is a pair of outdoor photocells featuring a battery-powered transmitter and a wired receiver, utilizing an infrared beam and offering adjustable orientation. The IRIS BAT model supports synchronization for up to 8 pairs of photocells, while the IRIS BAT ADV model does not support synchronization.
2. Application Possibilities
These photocells are designed for protecting openings in automated and remotely controlled doors and gates. If the gate control system performs a diagnostic check of the photocell before each movement, this product can be used to create a safety system of type PL "c" - CAT 2 according to EN ISO 13849-1:2015. The diagnostic check involves temporarily removing power to the photo-receiver and verifying that the output contact enters an alarm state. Any installation or use not conforming to the instructions in this manual is prohibited.

5. Details (Figure 1)
The photocell units and their components are illustrated in Figure 1. Key parts include:
- A: Holes for surface mounting.
- B: Hole for cable passage.
- C: Adjustable support locking device.
- D: Adjustable optics with support.
- E: Battery holder.
- F: LED indicator for alignment status.
- G: Input for connecting a normally closed mechanical safety edge. Remove the jumper if used.
- H: Terminal for synchronized operation.
- I: DIP-SWITCH selector for configuration.
- L: Power supply voltage input.
- M: Relay output.
6. Installation
Please read the safety warnings in this manual carefully before proceeding with installation.
- Drill the bottom of the housing for cable passage (refer to Figure 1-B).
- Fix the housing base to the wall, observing the dimensions indicated in Figure 2.
- Determine the orientation of the optical support to align the receiver and transmitter optics (as shown in Figures 4 and 5).
- Tighten the screws of the adjustable support locking device (refer to Figure 1-C).
- Insert batteries into the transmitter (refer to Figure 1-E).
- Connect the power supply to the receiver (refer to Figure 1-L).
- Connect the receiver's relay output to the associated automation product (refer to Figure 1-M).
- Apply power to the receiver and verify correct alignment and operation. The receiver's LED indicates status: OFF for free passage/consent, ON for occupied passage/alarm. Terminal 3-4 shows open-circuit for free passage and closed-circuit for occupied. Terminal 3-5 shows closed-circuit for free passage and open-circuit for occupied.
- Close the front cover using the provided screws.
7. Battery Replacement Notice
When the transmitter batteries are low (reaching approximately 2.1V), the receiver will alert the user by flashing the LED (Figure 1-F) continuously every second. The system remains operational during this period, but it is advisable to replace the batteries promptly to prevent automation downtime.
8. Configuring Synchronization (IRIS BAT only)
Synchronized operation is necessary when multiple photocell pairs are installed on the same opening to prevent interference between different transmitter/receiver pairs.
- Connect the SYNC inputs of the transmitters, ensuring correct polarity (refer to Figures 9 and 10).
- Set each pair (RX and TX) to the same ID number. Different pairs must have unique IDs (refer to Table 1).
- Using the DIP4 selector on the transmitters, designate one pair as MASTER and set all other pairs as SLAVE (refer to Table 2).
9. Signal Quality Test Function (IRIS BAT only)
This function allows for a visual assessment of the signal quality between the TX and RX photocells. In this mode, the receiver modulates the LED intensity based on signal quality: a stronger signal results in a brighter LED, while a weaker or absent signal causes the LED to be dim or off. When this function is active, the receiver's output remains in an alarm state.
To activate this mode:
- Set the receiver's DIP4 selector to OFF (refer to Table 3).
- Perform the alignment operations.
- Once alignment is complete, restore normal operation by moving the receiver's DIP4 selector back to the ON position.
10. Maintenance
Before performing any cleaning, maintenance, or part replacement, disconnect power to the automation system.
Mandatory maintenance operations every 12 months include:
- Check and clean any dirt, insects, or dust residues from the interior.
- Verify the integrity of cables and connections, including terminal tightness, and replace as necessary.
- Perform a general check of all screws and bolts.
- Confirm the correct operation of the photocells.
- Check battery status and replace if necessary.
