Installation and Setup

1. Power the Sensor

Use the included triangle tool to gently open the sensor's cover and access the battery. Pull the tab from under the battery to activate the sensor. Keep the cover open for now.

The LED indicator will start blinking for approximately 10 seconds once the sensor is powered. If the LED indicator does not blink or light up:

  • Ensure the battery is inserted correctly, observing positive (+) and negative (-) pole markings.
  • Try a fresh, non-rechargeable lithium battery.
  • Click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly to force inclusion/exclusion mode if you missed the initial flash.

2. Add Device to Your Hub

Initiate the inclusion (pairing) process in your smart home hub's app or web interface. For hubs supporting S2 security and SmartStart, you will be prompted to enter the DSK PIN or scan the QR code found on the inside of the sensor's battery cover.

While the hub is searching for new devices, click the Z-Wave button on the sensor 3 times as quickly as possible. The LED indicator will begin flashing to confirm inclusion mode and turn off once inclusion is successfully completed.

Tip: It is recommended to add the sensor from the intended installation area to ensure the hub establishes the best communication route. If the signal is weak, consider using Z-Wave repeaters.

3. Activate the Sensor

Once the hub has successfully paired the device, you can close the sensor's cover.

Z-Wave Control and Indicators

Z-Wave Button: Used for pairing (3 clicks), waking up (4 clicks), and factory reset (2 clicks, hold third for 10 seconds).

LED Indicator: Provides visual feedback during power-up, inclusion, and other operations. Its behavior can be configured in advanced settings.

Supported Hubs: SmartThings, Hubitat, Home Assistant, Vera, and other Z-Wave certified hubs.

For detailed pairing instructions specific to your hub, visit www.support.getzooz.com or scan the relevant QR code provided with the product.

Troubleshooting

Sensor Won't Add to System:

  • Initiate EXCLUSION mode on your hub and click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly.
  • Click the Z-Wave button more rapidly when attempting to add.
  • Bring the sensor closer to your hub; it might be out of range.
  • Verify the device is powered correctly.
  • Consult www.support.getzooz.com for hub-specific troubleshooting tips.

Exclusion (Remove Device)

  1. Bring the sensor within direct range of your Z-Wave hub.
  2. Put your Z-Wave hub into exclusion mode (contact ask@getzooz.com for assistance if unsure).
  3. Click the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible.
  4. Your hub will confirm exclusion, and the sensor will be removed from your controller's device list.

Factory Reset

If the network's primary controller is inoperable, you can manually reset the device to factory settings. Ensure the sensor is powered, then click the Z-Wave button twice and hold the third click for 10 seconds. The LED indicator will blink continuously. Immediately after, click the Z-Wave button twice more to finalize the reset. The LED indicator will flash 3 times to confirm a successful reset.

Note: All previously recorded activity and custom settings will be erased.

Wake-Up Mode

The sensor's wake-up interval is set to 12 hours by default to conserve battery. You can adjust this interval using the Wake Up Command Class. To manually wake the sensor, click the Z-Wave button 4 times quickly; the LED indicator will flash once to confirm it's awake. During wake-up, the Z-Wave radio is active for one minute to receive communications. A longer wake-up interval does not affect how often the sensor reports to your hub, so the default setting is recommended for battery conservation.

Association

The XS Sensor supports Group 1 for Lifeline communication. Groups 2 (tilt sensor reports) and 3 (shock sensor reports) can be associated with up to 5 devices for Basic Set on/off control. The value for the basic set command sent to Groups 2 and 3 can be adjusted in advanced settings.

If you are unsure how to access direct association settings on your Z-Wave system, please contact Zooz support at ask@getzooz.com.

Advanced Settings

Advanced settings allow customization of the sensor's behavior. To access them, wake the sensor by clicking the Z-Wave button 4 times quickly after updating settings.

Sensor Mounting

Indoor Mounting

  1. Include the sensor to your Z-Wave network from its intended installation location.
  2. Choose a spot for vibration monitoring that is not easily accessible to intruders, such as high on a window glass. For tilt (open/close) reports, select a clean spot on the top panel of your garage door.
  3. Attach the sensor to the surface using the supplied adhesive tape. The sensor will report vibration when its acceleration sensor is triggered. It will change its open/close status when tilted to a vertical or horizontal position.
  4. Important: Ensure the sensor is mounted with the arrow printed on the back pointing upwards (and the opening slot facing downwards). Attach the back side of the sensor to the surface.
  5. Test the sensor by simulating vibration or by opening/closing your garage door.

Vertical & Horizontal Tilt: The sensor reports open and close alerts for both vertical and horizontal tilting movements.

Outdoor Mounting

Follow the same steps as indoor mounting, but ensure additional protection from water and sun. The ZSE43 is IP64 rated, meaning it can withstand splashes or light drizzle but should not be exposed to direct rainfall, snowfall, or prolonged direct sunlight. Placing the sensor under an eave is recommended for outdoor use.

Command Classes

The Zooz ZSE43 supports various Z-Wave command classes, including:

  • ZWavePlusInfo_V2
  • Association_V3
  • MultiChannelAssociation_V4
