Installation
1. Power the Sensor
Use a small flat screwdriver to gently open the sensor's cover and access the battery. Pull the tab from under the battery to activate the sensor. Do not close the cover yet. The LED indicator will start blinking for around 10 seconds once the sensor is powered.
If the LED indicator does not blink or light up:
- Ensure the battery is inserted correctly, observing positive (+) / negative (-) pole marks.
- Try a fresh lithium non-rechargeable battery.
- Click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly to force inclusion/exclusion mode if you missed the initial flash.
Z-Wave Control
1. Add Device to Your Hub
Initiate inclusion (pairing) in your hub's app or web interface. If using an S2 hub, you will be prompted to enter the DSK PIN or scan the QR code on the sensor's back cover sticker for SmartStart inclusion.
2. Activate the Sensor
While the hub is searching for new devices, click the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible. The LED indicator will flash to confirm inclusion mode and turn off upon completion.
Tip: It is recommended to add your sensor from its intended installation location to ensure the hub establishes the best communication route.
Troubleshooting
Sensor won't add to your system? Try this:
- Initiate EXCLUSION mode on your hub and click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly.
- Click the Z-Wave button more quickly when attempting to add.
- Move the sensor closer to your hub if it might be out of range.
- Double-check that the device is powered.
- Visit www.support.getzooz.com for hub-specific troubleshooting tips.
Exclusion (Remove Device)
- Bring the sensor within direct range of your Z-Wave hub.
- Put your Z-Wave hub into exclusion mode (contact ask@getzooz.com if unsure how).
- Click the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible.
- Your hub will confirm exclusion, and the sensor will be removed from your device list.
Factory Reset
If your network's primary controller is missing or inoperable, you may need to manually reset the device. Ensure the sensor is powered, then click the Z-Wave button twice and hold it on the third click for 10 seconds. The LED indicator will blink continuously. Immediately after, click the Z-Wave button twice more to finalize the reset. The LED indicator will flash 3 times to confirm a successful reset.
Note: All previously recorded activity and custom settings will be erased from the device's memory.
Wake-Up Mode
The sensor's wake-up interval is set to 12 hours by default to conserve battery. You can adjust this interval using the Wake Up Command Class. To manually wake the sensor, click the Z-Wave button 4 times quickly. The LED indicator will flash twice to confirm the device is awake. During wake-up, the Z-Wave radio is active for one minute to receive hub communication. A longer wake-up interval does not affect how often the sensor reports to your hub; leaving the default setting is recommended for battery conservation.
Association
The XS Sensor supports Group 1 for Lifeline communication and Group 2 for basic on/off control (up to 5 devices). When water is detected, the device sends a Basic Set command to Group 2. The value of this command can be adjusted in advanced settings. Note that not all Z-Wave systems provide access to direct association settings; contact support if you need assistance.
Advanced Settings
Below are some key configurable parameters:
- Parameter 1: LED Indicator
- Description: Controls whether the LED indicator blinks when a water leak is detected.
- Values: 0 = LED does not blink; 1 = LED blinks (default).
- Size: 1 byte (decimal)
- Parameter 2: Leak Report Duration
- Description: Sets how long the sensor reports water leak detection after a leak is no longer present.
- Values: 0 - 3600 seconds. Default: 0 (reports "dry" immediately).
- Size: 1 byte (decimal)
- Parameter 4: Low Battery Report Threshold
- Description: Determines when the sensor reports low battery status to the hub.
- Values: 10-50% battery life. Default: 20%.
- Size: 1 byte (decimal)
Wake the sensor up (click Z-Wave button 4 times quickly) after updating settings. For a complete list of parameters, visit www.support.getzooz.com or scan the QR code.

Sensor Placement
Indoor Placement
- Include the sensor to your Z-Wave network from its intended installation location.
- Choose a spot in the area to monitor for water leaks, ensuring it's not easily accessible to pets or children to prevent accidental displacement.
- Place the sensor on a flat surface so that all 4 probes are touching the ground. The sensor detects a leak when water reaches any of the 2 probe pairs.
- Test the sensor by simulating a leak; it should blink and send a report to the hub when water is detected.
Outdoor Placement
- This sensor is IP64 rated, meaning it can withstand splashes or drizzle but not prolonged exposure to rainfall, snowfall, or direct sunlight. Placing the sensor under an eave is recommended for outdoor use.
- Include the sensor to your Z-Wave network from its installation area for optimal connectivity.
- Place the sensor on a flat surface to monitor for leaks, ensuring all 4 probes underneath are touching the ground. The sensor will report a leak when water is present between any of the probe pairs.
Diagram Description: The diagram shows two scenarios for water detection. In the first, water is shown bridging two probes, indicating detection. In the second, water is absent between the probes, indicating no detection.
