Installation
1. Choose Power Source
The sensor can be powered by 2 CR123A lithium batteries, which typically last around a year depending on usage and settings. Alternatively, use the optional USB power (requires a micro USB cable and a 1A power supply). If using USB power and keeping batteries as backup, be aware that including the sensor with the USB cable plugged in will keep the Z-Wave radio active, draining batteries within 48 hours after USB power is disconnected.
2. Install Batteries / USB Power
Twist the back cover counter-clockwise to open and access the batteries. Pull the battery tab to power the sensor; the LED indicator will start blinking. If using USB power, insert the micro USB cable into the port above the battery slot; the LED indicator will start blinking.
3. Test the Sensor
Once powered, the LED indicator will blink if the sensor is not yet included in your Z-Wave network. If already part of the network, it will light up for 2 seconds and flash once. If the LED indicator does not blink or light up:
- Ensure batteries are inserted correctly, observing polarity (+/-).
- Try fresh, non-rechargeable lithium batteries.
- Try a different USB cable or power supply.
- Click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly to force inclusion/exclusion mode if you missed the initial flash.
Z-Wave Control
1. Add Device to Your Hub (Smart Start)
Initiate inclusion (pairing) in your hub's app or web interface. For S2 hubs, you may need to enter the DSK key or scan the QR code on the back cover sticker to complete SmartStart inclusion.
2. Power the Sensor
Insert batteries or connect the USB cable. The LED indicator will blink, and the sensor will automatically join the network after scanning the code.
IMPORTANT! NEVER include the sensor powered by USB and then switch to batteries. Your hub may recognize it as a Z-Wave repeater, leading to rapid battery drain. Always include the sensor powered by batteries if you intend to use it as a battery-powered device.
Manual Inclusion
Put your Z-Wave hub into inclusion mode and click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly. The LED indicator will blink to confirm inclusion mode and turn off upon completion. If connected to USB power, the sensor will automatically pair as a repeater without requiring a special button sequence.

Troubleshooting
If the sensor won't add to your system:
- Initiate EXCLUSION in your hub and click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly.
- Click the Z-Wave button 4-5 times quickly when attempting inclusion.
- Move the sensor closer to your hub if it's out of range.
- Verify the device is powered.
- Find troubleshooting tips specific to your hub at: www.support.getzooz.com
Exclusion (Removing / Unpairing Device)
- Bring the sensor within direct range of your Z-Wave gateway (hub).
- Put the Z-Wave hub into exclusion mode (contact support if unsure).
- Press and release the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly.
- Your hub will confirm exclusion, and the sensor will be removed from the device list.
Factory Reset
If your network's primary controller is missing or inoperable, you can manually reset the device. Ensure the sensor is powered, then press and hold the Z-Wave button for at least 20 seconds. The LED indicator will flash and then turn solid for a few seconds to confirm the reset. Note: All previously recorded activity and custom settings will be erased.
Wake-Up Mode
The sensor's wake-up interval is set to 4 hours by default to conserve battery. You can adjust this interval using the Wake Up Command Class (values in seconds, min 120, max 86400). Press and hold the Z-Wave button for 3 seconds to manually wake the sensor. During wake-up, the Z-Wave radio activates briefly to receive hub communication. A longer wake-up interval does not affect how often the sensor reports motion or other values.
Association
The Q Sensor supports Group 1 (lifeline communication, up to 5 nodes) and Group 2 (basic on/off control, up to 5 devices). When motion is detected, the device sends a Notification and Sensor Multilevel Report to Group 1 and a Basic Set command to Group 2.
Advanced Settings
For a complete list of parameters, visit: www.support.getzooz.com
- Parameter 12 (Motion Sensitivity): Values 1-8 (8 is most sensitive), 0 to disable motion reports. Default: 6. (1 byte dec)
- Parameter 13 (Motion Clear Time): Delay before reporting no motion. Values: 10-3600 seconds. Default: 30. (2 byte dec)
- Parameter 19 (LED Indicator): 0 = disable LED on motion, 1 = enable LED on motion (default). (1 byte dec)
- Parameter 172 (Reporting Frequency): Minimum interval for updates (battery, temp, humidity, light) in hours. Values: 1-744 hours. Affects battery life. Default: 4 hours. (2 byte dec)
- Parameter 183 (Temperature Threshold): Report new temperature when change exceeds value in Fahrenheit. Values: 1-144°F. Default: 1°F. (2 byte dec)
- Parameter 184 (Humidity Threshold): Report new humidity when change exceeds value in percent. Values: 1-80%. 0 disables reporting based on changes. Default: 5%. (1 byte dec)
- Parameter 185 (Lux Threshold): Report new lux value when change exceeds value. Values: 1-30000 lux. 0 disables reporting based on changes. Default: 50 lux. (2 byte dec)
Press and hold the Z-Wave button for 3 seconds to wake the sensor after updating settings.
Mounting
Use the included screws to fix the mounting bracket to a flat surface, ideally 7 feet above the ground for optimal performance. Alternatively, use the included adhesive tape to avoid drilling holes.
Tips:
- The sensor detects motion best from the sides of the lens, not directly in front.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver for mounting screws.
- Avoid positioning the sensor facing a window, direct sunlight, or heat sources (radiators, boilers).
Indoor Only!
This sensor is designed for indoor use only. Outdoor installation will void the warranty.
- Mark Screw Holes: Use the bracket to mark 2 mounting holes on a clean, dry surface 7 feet above ground. Skip if using tape.
- Install the Bracket: Drill holes and use the supplied screws to attach the bracket to the wall.
- Mount Sensor: Snap the sensor onto the bracket, positioning it for the desired coverage area.
