Designed to bring efficiency and precision to your espresso workflow, the Umbra Lunar features Acaia's proprietary industrial weighing technology for fast, responsive, and highly accurate measurements. Its sleek, display-free design integrates seamlessly into commercial environments, helping you maintain a clean, streamlined setup.

The Umbra Lunar's Magic Relay communicates in real time with other Acaia devices—such as the Pearl or another Umbra Lunar—sharing displays and delivering synchronized, real-time measurements.

This Quick Start Guide walks you through the essential setup and features, from basic operation to advanced integrations. Use the Umbra Lunar as a standalone scale via the Acaia app or connect it with other Acaia devices to unlock more possibilities.

Umbra Lunar Overview

The Umbra Lunar features a Weighing Pan and a USB Type-C Charging Port.

Action Methods:

Action Button

The Action Button is located on the device and is used to perform various functions. An Action Button Status Indicator (LED) provides visual feedback.

Complete list of functions:

• Power On / Off: Tap to turn on. Double tap to turn off.
• Reset to Default: Press and hold for 15 seconds while the Umbra Lunar is off. Release when the LED turns Green.
• Firmware Update: Press and hold for 30 seconds while the Umbra Lunar is off. Release when the LED turns from Green to Red.
• Tare: Tap the Action Button.
• Pair: Press and hold for 10 seconds until the LED starts blinking Magenta.
• Unpair: Press and hold for 10 seconds until the LED changes from blinking Blue to blinking Magenta.

Action Button Indicators

The LED indicator on the Action Button provides status information:

• Magenta: Unpaired / Pairing in progress / Sleep Mode
• Blue: Paired but disconnected / Sleep Mode
• White: Pairing successful / Weighing on the Umbra Lunar
• Green: Weighing on the paired device with battery level around 70–100% / Charging Status: battery level is above 90% / Reset to factory default
• Orange: Weighing on the paired device with battery level around 30–70% / Charging Status: battery level is between 60% and 90%
• Yellow: Weighing on the paired device with battery level around 30% / Charging Status: battery level is below 60% / Will power off automatically after the Yellow light flashes
• Cyan: Calibration Mode
• Red: Warning / Firmware Update Mode

Using Your Umbra Lunar

Power On

Turn on the paired device; it will wake the Umbra Lunar automatically if it's in Sleep Mode. Turn on the Umbra Lunar; it will automatically connect with the paired device.

Control

The control is now shared with the paired device. Functions like Tare, Start, Stop, and Mode Changes can be managed remotely.

Tap to Switch

The Magic Relay allows you to tap to switch between the Umbra Lunar and the paired device.

Umbra Lunar Modes

To operate the Umbra Lunar, press and hold the Power Button on your paired device to switch between modes:

Weight Only Mode

Displays Umbra Lunar weight and Device weight.

Actions:

• Tare the Umbra Lunar
• Tare the device, the Umbra Lunar
• Toggle between Single Weight and Dual Weight Display

Timer and Weight Mode

Displays Timer and Weight.

Actions:

• Start and stop the timer
• Tare the device, the Umbra Lunar
• Reset the timer and the weight

Auto Mode with Flow Detection

Displays Timer and Weight, with indicators for Auto-Start Timer (Flow) and Auto-Tare Operation.

Actions:

• Start and stop the timer
• Tare the device, the Umbra Lunar
• Reset the timer and the weight
• Toggle between Flow [auto-start timer] and Auto-Tare modes.

Connecting Your Umbra Lunar

Pairing with Acaia devices for the First Time

1. Ensure both the Umbra Lunar and the device to be paired are using the latest firmware via the Acaia Updater App.
2. Place the Umbra Lunar and other Acaia devices on a stable, vibration-free, and preferably level surface.
3. When the device is off, press and hold the Power Button for 10 seconds until the LED displays 'PAIr?'.
4. Turn on the Umbra Lunar; the button should be solid Magenta. Press and hold the Button for about 10 seconds and release the button when it turns to blinking Magenta.
5. When the device displays 'ConFirn?', tap the Tare Button on the device to confirm pairing.
6. When the Umbra Lunar turns solid White and the Bluetooth Connection Indicator appears, pairing is complete.

You will only need to pair the Umbra Lunar once. The Umbra Lunar will automatically connect with the paired device each time it is powered on.

Note: If the Umbra Lunar is disconnected with the paired device, the Umbra Lunar turns blinking Blue.

Advanced Control with the Brewmaster App

The updated Brewmaster App provides enhanced control for the Umbra Lunar. Connect the app to the Umbra Lunar to use it as an extended display and configure basic settings.

Battery Charging

You can charge the battery by plugging the USB Type-C cable into any of the power supplies listed below:

• A computer
• A USB wall-charger with an output of 5 volts and 1 amp
• A USB-C PD charger supporting 5 volts
• A DC car-charger with an output of 5 volts and 1 amp

A fully charged battery can work continuously for about 40 - 48 hours in Standard Mode. It takes about 1 - 2 hours to fully charge. To maintain optimal battery health, avoid waiting until the battery is critically low before charging.

Charging Status

• Green: Battery level is around 90-100%
• Orange: Battery level is around 60-90%
• Yellow: Battery level is below 60%

Applying the Protective Strips

The non-slip protective strips keep the Umbra Lunar more stationary on the drip tray. The friction-reduction protective strips keep the Umbra Lunar from sliding easily on the drip tray.

1. Step 1: Turn the scale over. [Illustration of turning the scale over]
2. Step 2: Clean the area where you will place the protective strips with rubbing alcohol. Make sure the scale is completely dry and free of dust. [Illustration of cleaning the scale surface]
3. Step 3: Remove the protective strips' adhesive backing. [Illustration of removing adhesive backing from a strip]
4. Step 4: Position the protective strips along the top and bottom edges* of the Umbra Lunar and press firmly. [Illustration of applying strips to the scale edges] * 3 mm from scale edges

Smart Calibration

Smart Calibration must be performed using the Brewmaster App. Follow the steps below to calibrate your Umbra Lunar. Please refer to page 18 of the Umbra Lunar Manual.

Caution

• Do not charge when the scale is wet.
• Do not place hot objects directly on the weighing pan. Use a heat resistant pad.
• Any modification made without the consent of the manufacturer may result in damage to the scale.
• Avoid using the scale near very strong magnetic fields.

Unpairing the Umbra Lunar

To pair the Umbra Lunar with another device, unpair it first. Press and hold the Action Button for about 10 seconds while the Umbra Lunar is on. Release the button when the LED changes from blinking Blue to blinking Magenta.

Reset to Factory Default

To reset the Umbra Lunar to factory default, press and hold the Action Button in the front while the Umbra Lunar is off. Hold for about 15 seconds and release the Action Button when the button turns Green. Once released, all settings of the Umbra Lunar will be reset to factory default, except for the pairing.

Enter the Umbra Lunar Firmware Update Mode

To enter the Umbra Lunar Firmware Update Mode, please disconnect the Umbra Lunar with the paired devices and apps first. Press and hold the Action Button while the Umbra Lunar is off. Hold for about 30 seconds and release the Action Button when it turns from Green to Red. Once released, the Umbra Lunar will enter the Firmware Update Mode.

Note: If Umbra Lunar turns Magenta after the Green, please fully charge the Umbra Lunar before proceeding with the update.

2-Year Limited Warranty

Acaia products purchased in the US have a limited 2-year warranty. This warranty covers all defects in materials and workmanship (parts and labor). It includes free ground transportation to and from the US repair facility. It does not apply to damage resulting from improper use, lack of cleaning, abuse, or normal wear and tear. Purchases from unauthorized dealers will not be covered by warranty.

• US purchases used internationally: Contact the original vendor for repairs. The customer is responsible for fees associated with parts or product replacement, including international freight charges and duties. Outside of warranty coverage, labor fees are also the customer's responsibility.

• Purchases from a reseller not in the country of residence: The customer is responsible for fees associated with shipping and/or repair services, including international freight charges and duties for product/part replacement.
