Cleaning and Sanitization
Scheduled cleaning and sanitizing are recommended to ensure the integrity of the drinking water. Frequency depends on conditions and environment.
⚠️ CAUTION: DO NOT IMMERSE THE UNIT IN WATER OR CLEAN USING PRESSURE WASHER.
Daily cleaning of the coffee pod holder and monthly cleaning with a detergent pod can be performed by the end user.
Cleaning Tips:
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (minimum 60% alcohol) prior to cleaning.
- Clean all surfaces with a mild dish detergent and water prior to disinfection.
- Spray a clean cloth with an EPA-registered disinfectant and wipe down brewer screens, touch buttons, the coffee pod holder, and external surfaces.
Daily Cleaning of Coffee Pod Holder:
- Use the top cover key to open the top cover.
- Open the coffee pod holder lid. Remove the coffee cup holder (brown) and wash it (top rack only). Turn the red twist locks on each side to release and remove the bottom part of the coffee pod holder.
- Open the catch on each side, lift out the top coffee pod holder component. Wash both components with a food grade dish detergent. Dry using a clean cloth or air dry.
- Install the cleaned top coffee pod holder components, closing the catches. Slide the bottom part of the coffee pod holder into place, turning the red twist locks to secure. Place a clean cup holder (brown) in the pod holder and push down to close the lid.
Monthly Cleaning with Detergent Pod (not supplied):
- With the coffee machine turned on and at temperature, open the coffee pod holder, insert the detergent pod, and close the lid.
- Place a 10 oz or larger container under the water outlet. Select the 10 oz option and press the "Brew" button to start the cleaning cycle.
- Upon completion of the cleaning cycle, clean the coffee pod holder using the “Daily Cleaning” procedures.
- Once the cleaned coffee pod holder is installed, press the 6, 8, or 10 oz option and press the “Brew” button to flush hot water through the unit five times or until no detergent residue is detected.
Basic Cleaning:
- Use sterile nitrile gloves or wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds before and after handling water contact parts.
- Remove the raised drip tray assembly and disassemble it for cleaning.
- Using a clean cloth, wipe the raised drip tray support, and wash the drip tray grill and base using mild dish detergent.
- Lift the door up, turn off the hot tank power switch, and unplug the water cooler.
⚠️ CAUTION: WATER IN THE HOT TANK IS VERY HOT AND CAN CAUSE SEVERE BURNS. ALLOW SUFFICIENT TIME FOR THE HOT WATER TO COOL BEFORE DRAINING (1-2 HOURS).
- Take the bottle out from the base (caution: do not break the corrugated tube). Remove the connector from the adaptor. A plug should be added to the end of the tube to stop water dripping on the floor (save the red plug for future use).
- Use the top cover key to open the top cover.
- Squeeze the latch's end to open. Rotate the blue knobs to release the SmartFlo™ Plus Water Cartridge. Pull to remove the cartridge and discard it in a recycling bin.
- To drain the hot tank, use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the drain cap cover on the rear of the cooler. Use a flat blade screwdriver or 1/2" socket to remove the drain cap and plug. Drain water into a pail or container (at least 0.5 gal.) and discard. Replace the drain plug and cap, and attach the drain cover.
- It is recommended that the hot tank be descaled periodically. Use only food-safe descaling agents compatible with 304 grade stainless steel. Follow manufacturer's safety instructions and recommendations. Ensure the hot tank is empty and drain, plug, cap, and cover are securely in place. Using a funnel, add the descaling solution to the hot tank, filling up to the top of the inlet (approx. 38.7oz/1100ml). Allow the solution time to descale, then drain and dispose of the solution.
- Wipe the evaporator with a clean cloth.
- Use a stiff, non-metallic brush or vacuum attachment to clean the condenser and all accessible areas to remove dirt, lint, and debris. Use a clean damp cloth to wipe down the condenser. ⚠️ CAUTION: DO NOT CLEAN USING PRESSURE WASHER OR ANY DIRECT WATER CONTACT.
- Lift the door up to open. Brush, vacuum, and wipe to clean the interior of the condenser.
- Install a new SmartFlo™ Plus Water Cartridge. Install the connector and corrugated tube into the inlet through the cooler to the bottom. Insert the reservoir into the evaporator. Ensure the SmartFlo™ Plus is installed properly. Turn the two blue knobs to lock the SmartFlo™ Plus in place.
- Close and lock the latch arm.
- Remove the red plug from the blue tube of the SmartFlo™ Plus Water Cartridge and install onto the bottle adaptor assembly (save the red plug for future use).
- Close the top cover and lower the door to close. Plug the cooler into the electrical outlet. Prime the water system (as described previously).
- Lift the door to open. Turn the hot tank power switch ON. Push downward to close the door. ⚠️ CAUTION: TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE HOT TANK, DO NOT SWITCH ON IF HOT TANK IS EMPTY.
Replacement of SmartFlo™ Plus Water Cartridge:
- It is recommended to change the SmartFlo™ Plus Water Cartridge every 6 months for the best tasting and highest quality water. Follow the instructions provided with your replacement cartridge.
- It is recommended to empty the bottle prior to replacement.
- A flashing blue light above the cold water lever will alert you when the SmartFlo™ Plus Water Cartridge should be replaced. The system is pre-set to provide this indication after approximately 6 months of use.
- Note: To reset the life timer system, remove the SmartFlo™ Plus from the dispenser for a minimum of 15 seconds while the unit is connected to the mains power supply. If the SF light does not reset, power cycle the unit for 10 seconds.
Troubleshooting
- Water leaks: If water is present at the base (not dripping from above), try replacing the water bottle. If leaking from above the bottle, unplug the dispenser, remove the bottle, and contact your local supplier or Crystal Mountain.
- Water not dispensing: Ensure hot/cold tanks have been primed, the bottle is not empty, the water selection lever is fully depressed, all SmartFlo™ Plus tubing is free of damage, and SmartFlo™ Plus locking knobs are securely locked.
- Not cooling (hot water functioning): Optimum cold water temperatures will be reached after several hours. Ensure the dispenser is at least 4 inches (100mm) from the wall for ventilation. If water is still not cold, contact your local supplier or Crystal Mountain.
- No hot water (cold water functioning): Optimum hot water temperatures will be reached after 15-20 minutes. Ensure the Hot Tank Power Switch is turned on. If water is still not hot, contact your local supplier or Crystal Mountain.
- No coffee out (hot water and cold water are functioning): Ensure the needle is not blocked and the coffee pod holder lid is completely closed. If water is still not hot, contact your local supplier or Crystal Mountain.
- Dispenser is noisy: Ensure the dispenser is positioned on a flat, level surface. Ensure the bottle is not empty.
- Brewer only makes a Partial Cup or Brew Volumes Vary: The exit needle may be clogged. Slight variations in brew volume may occur due to dispense temperature, pod type, and location altitude.
