Section 3: Replacement of SmartFlo Water Cartridge

Notice: Procedures should be performed by a trained Water Cooler Service Technician. Ensure water is completely drained before service.

Recommendation: Replace SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge every 12 months for optimal water quality. A flashing blue light above the cold water lever indicates replacement is due.

Note for Resetting Timer: Remove the SmartFlo™ cartridge for a minimum of 15 seconds while the unit is connected to mains power.

  1. Open Dispenser door (slide upwards). Refer to Figure 3-1.
  2. Slide empty bottle out of cabinet. Refer to Figures 3-2 and 3-3.
  3. Disconnect the water line from the bottle adaptor. Refer to Figure 3-4.
  4. Open the replacement SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge kit and remove the access key.
  5. Insert the access key into the 2 holes on the underside of the top edge of the cooler (above water levers) and push inwards to unlock the front of the top cover. Refer to Figures 3-5 and 3-6.
  6. Place a container below water outlets. Unlatch the locking clip near the front to release the water tubing. Refer to Figure 3-7.
  7. Unlock the turn knobs holding the SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge. Refer to Figure 3-8.
  8. Pull SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge upwards to remove. Refer to Figure 3-9.
  9. Discard used SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge according to local regulations; recycle when possible.
  10. Insert the water line of the replacement SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge through the guide tube and push it to the bottle installation area. Refer to Figure 3-10.
  11. Ensure the gasket/seal is properly installed on the outlet tube of the SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge assembly. Refer to Figure 3-11.
  12. Align SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge with cooler openings and push into place. Refer to Figures 3-12 and 3-13.
  13. Rotate turn knobs to lock the SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge. Refer to Figure 3-14.
  14. Close the locking clip to secure water outlet tubing. Refer to Figure 3-15.
  15. Close the top cover of the cooler (push downwards to lock). Refer to Figure 3-16.
  16. Place a fresh bottle outside the cabinet.
  17. Clean the outside of the new bottle. Remove security label/seal from the bottle cap. Refer to Figure 3-17.
  18. Remove the bottle adaptor assembly from the empty bottle. Avoid touching the tube. Refer to Figure 3-18.
  19. Install the Spike Cap (with the end of the tube in the Spike Cap). Refer to Figures 3-19 and 3-20.
  20. Push the tube to go through the Spike Cap until it is close to the bottom of the bottle. Refer to Figure 3-21.
  21. Remove the red protective cap from the blue tube of the SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge and install it onto the bottle adaptor assembly. Refer to Figure 3-22.
  22. Slide the bottle into the cabinet and close the door (slide door downwards). Refer to Figures 3-23 to 3-24.
  23. Depress the Cold or Hot water lever to fill the respective tanks until water flows from both faucets. Refer to Figures 3-25 and 3-26.

Section 4: Water Bottle Install & Replacement

Install Water Bottle

  1. Open Dispenser door (slide upwards). Refer to Figure 4-1.
  2. Place fresh bottle outside the cabinet.
  3. Clean the outside of the new bottle. Refer to Figure 4-2.
  4. Remove security label/seal from the bottle cap. Install Spike Cap through the bottle cap (do not remove Bottle Cap) and press down to secure. Refer to Figures 4-3 and 4-4.
  5. Insert the Bottle adaptor assembly through Spike cap until the tube hits the bottom of the bottle. Refer to Figures 4-5 and 4-6.
  6. Remove the red protective cap from the blue tube of the SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge and install it onto the bottle adaptor assembly. Refer to Figure 4-7.
  7. Slide bottle into cabinet and close the door (slide door downwards). Refer to Figure 4-8.

Bottle Change

A flashing red light above the cold water lever indicates the water bottle is getting low. Replace the bottle when empty.

  1. Open Dispenser door (slide upwards). Refer to Figure 4-9.
  2. Slide empty bottle out of cabinet. Refer to Figure 4-10.
  3. Place fresh bottle outside the cabinet.
  4. Clean the outside of the new bottle. Remove security label/seal from the bottle cap. Refer to Figure 4-11.
  5. Remove bottle adaptor and Spike Cap from the empty bottle. Remove the cap from the Hose Assembly. Refer to Figures 4-12 and 4-13.
  6. Install Spike Cap through the bottle cap and press down to secure. Refer to Figures 4-14 and 4-15.
  7. Insert the Bottle adaptor assembly through Spike cap until the tube hits the bottom of the bottle. Refer to Figures 4-16 and 4-17.
  8. Slide bottle into cabinet and close the door (slide door downwards). Refer to Figures 4-18 to 4-20.
  9. Place a container under the faucet and dispense cold water until a smooth stream is dispensed.

Cold Thermostat Removal and Installation

Notice: Procedures should be performed by a trained Water Cooler Service Technician. Ensure unit is unplugged and water is drained.

  1. Turn off the hot tank power switch and unplug the water cooler. Refer to Figure 5-2-1.
  2. Remove the back panels.
  3. Remove the 2 mounting screws from the cold thermostat. Refer to Figures 5-2-2 and 5-2-3.
  4. Remove the cold thermostat from the plastic shelf. Refer to Figure 5-2-4.
  5. Remove the terminals from the thermostat, noting their original positions. Refer to Figures 5-2-5, 5-2-6, and 5-2-7.
  6. Cut the plastic tie strap holding the cold thermostat sensor to the evaporator insulation. Refer to Figure 5-2-8.
  7. Pull the sensor tube out from the Evaporator Insulation to remove. Install the Sensor tube cover onto the replacement cold thermostat if required. Refer to Figure 5-2-9.
  8. Install the replacement cold thermostat into the evaporator insulation (approx. 5 inches/125mm insertion length). Ensure the protective cover is in the proper position. Refer to Figure 5-2-10.
  9. Install a replacement plastic tie to hold the sensor.
  10. Reinstall the wire terminals onto the Cold Thermostat in their correct locations.
  11. Reinstall screws on the cold thermostat to the plastic shelf.
  12. Reinstall the back panel. Plug in the cooler and switch it on.

Cold Thermostat Adjustment

The cold thermostat can be adjusted without removing panels. The adjustment screw is located on the back top side.

Factory Setting: 6:00. To find the 6:00 position: rotate the set screw clockwise until it stops, then rotate counterclockwise 180 degrees.

To make water colder: rotate the screw clockwise approximately 1 hour position. Allow 2-3 hours for stabilization.

To make water warmer: rotate the screw counter-clockwise approximately 1 hour position. Allow 2-3 hours for stabilization.

Refer to Figure 5-3-1 for adjustment screw location.

Hot Tank Auto Cutout / Manual Reset Replacement

Notice: Procedures should be performed by a trained Water Cooler Service Technician. Ensure unit is unplugged and water is drained.

  1. Remove wire terminals from the thermostat and identify their positions. Use a plier or flathead screwdriver to pry connectors off. Refer to Figures 5-4-1 and 5-4-2.
  2. Remove the two screws and the thermostat from its bracket. Refer to Figure 5-4-3.
  3. If replacing a manual reset thermostat, remove the protective cover from the old thermostat and install it onto the replacement. Refer to Figure 5-4-4.
  4. Wipe the face of the new thermostat against the old one to transfer heat transfer paste. Place into position and evenly tighten the two screws (torque to 3.4~6.9 lbf.in). Refer to Figure 5-4-5.
  5. Reconnect the wires as identified. If replacing a manual reset, ensure the reset button is pushed before panel installation.

Hot Tank Removal and Replacement

Notice: Procedures should be performed by a trained Water Cooler Service Technician. Ensure unit is unplugged and water is drained. CAUTION: HOT WATER CAN CAUSE SEVERE BURNS. ALLOW SUFFICIENT TIME FOR COOLING.

  1. Use the top cover key to open the top cover. Release and open the latch. Turn to relax the 2 locking buttons. Pull off the SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge approx 4-6 inches. Refer to Figures 5-5-1, 5-5-2, 5-5-3, and 5-5-4.
  2. Nip the two clips to remove the transparent outlet. Remove the 2 screws. Remove the steam valve and transparent outlet from the top shelf. Refer to Figures 5-5-5, 5-5-6, and 5-5-7.
  3. Remove the 4 screws of the thermostats. Remove the ground wire from the hot tank. Remove and identify the 2 terminals at the bottom of the hot tank. Refer to Figures 5-5-8 and 5-5-9.
  4. Relax and remove the spring clip using pliers. Remove the drain hose from the hot tank if necessary. Refer to Figure 5-5-10.
  5. While holding the hot tank, remove the 3 screws on the top shelf for the hot tank. Refer to Figure 5-5-11.
  6. Remove the hot tank from the cooler. Refer to Figure 5-5-12.
  7. Align the tubes of the new hot tank with the corresponding holes and tighten the three screws to attach it properly. Refer to Figures 5-5-13 and 5-5-14.
  8. Reconnect the drain hose and spring clips. Reconnect all wires as identified (refer to wiring diagram). Reinstall the steam valve and transparent outlet. Ensure the silicon seal on the steam valve tube is installed properly. Reinstall the SmartFlo™ SF-1 Water Cartridge and turn the buttons to lock. Close and latch the locking arm. Close top cover. Reinstall the back panel.
  9. Plug the cooler back into the power outlet. Push the hot safety button and press the hot water faucet lever until water comes out. CAUTION: DO NOT SWITCH ON IF THE HOT TANK IS EMPTY. Refer to Figure 5-5-15.
  10. Slide door upwards to open. Turn the hot tank power switch ON and close the door.

Compressor Relay / Overload Protector Replacement

Notice: Procedures should be performed by a trained Water Cooler Service Technician. Ensure unit is unplugged and water is drained.

  1. Remove the relay/overload cover by prying the metal clip to unhook it from the compressor. Refer to Figures 5-6-1 and 5-6-2.
  2. Carefully remove the relay and overload from the compressor. Remove and identify the wire terminals from the relay (white wires) and/or overload (black wire). Refer to Figures 5-6-3, 5-6-4, 5-6-5, and 5-6-6.
  3. Install the new overload onto the top pin of the compressor and push the new relay onto the two bottom pins. Reconnect the white wires onto the relay and the black wire onto the overload. Refer to Figures 5-6-7, 5-6-8, 5-6-9, 5-6-10, and 5-6-11.
  4. Reinstall the cover and secure with the metal clip. Use caution not to damage wires. Refer to Figures 5-6-12 and 5-6-13.

Section 6: Trouble Shooting

Section 7: Cleaning & Sanitization

Notice: Procedures should be performed by a trained Water Cooler Service Technician. Ensure unit is unplugged and water is drained.

Scheduled cleaning and sanitizing is recommended. Frequency depends on conditions and environment.

CAUTION: DO NOT IMMERSE THE UNIT IN WATER OR CLEAN USING A PRESSURE WASHER.

  1. Wear latex or nitrile gloves, or wash hands before and after handling water contact parts.
  2. Remove the drip tray assembly and set aside for cleaning. Refer to Figure 7-1.
  3. Open the door properly. Turn off the hot tank power switch and unplug the water cooler. CAUTION: HOT WATER CAN CAUSE SEVERE BURNS. ALLOW SUFFICIENT TIME FOR COOLING. Refer to Figures 7-2, 7-3, and 7-4.
  4. Take the water bottle out from its base. Remove the connector from the bottle adaptor. Refer to Figure 7-5.
  5. Use the top cover key, insert into the two holes (on the front top, approx. 2 inches above and to the right of the hot water safety button), and push to open the top cover. Refer to Figures 7-6, 7-7, and 7-8.
  6. Nip the hook and latch's end to open the latch. Turn counter-clockwise to release the 2 knobs. Pull to remove the SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge and set aside. Refer to Figures 7-9, 7-10, 7-11, 7-12, 7-13, and 7-14.
  7. To drain the hot tank, unscrew the drain cap and remove the red silicone plug at the rear of the cooler. Drain water into a container. Reinstall the red silicone plug and drain cap. Refer to Figures 7-15, 7-16, and 7-17.
  8. It is recommended that the hot tank be descaled periodically. Use only descaling agents compatible with 304 grade stainless steel, following manufacturer's instructions. Ensure the hot tank is empty and drain plug/cap are in place. Using a funnel, add descaling solution up to the top of the inlet. Allow time for descaling, then drain and dispose of solution. Refer to Figures 7-18, 7-19, and 7-20.
  9. Clean the evaporator with a cloth. Refer to Figure 7-21.
  10. Vacuum the condenser and accessible areas to remove dirt, lint, and debris using a brush attachment. Alternatively, use a stiff non-metallic scrub brush and a damp cloth. CAUTION: DO NOT CLEAN USING A PRESSURE WASHER OR DIRECT WATER CONTACT. Refer to Figure 7-22.
  11. Clean the interior of the condenser using a brush, vacuum, and wipe. Refer to Figures 7-23 and 7-24.
  12. Reinstall or install a new SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge. Install the connector and corrugated tube through the cooler to the bottom. Insert the reservoir into the evaporator. Ensure the SmartFlo™ Water Cartridge is installed properly. Turn the 2 knobs to lock it. Close and latch the locking arm. Refer to Figures 7-25, 7-26, 7-27, 7-28, 7-29, and 7-30.
  13. Install the hose connector to the bottle adaptor. Put the water bottle into the bottom of the cooler. Ensure the tube droops naturally and is not inserted into the bottle handle. Refer to Figures 7-31, 7-32, and 7-33.
  14. Close the top cover and lower the door. Clean the drip tray assembly and reinstall it. Plug the cooler back into the power outlet. Push the hot safety button and press the hot water faucet lever until water comes out. Refer to Figure 7-34.
  15. Open the door. Turn the hot tank power switch ON. Slide downwards to close the door. CAUTION: DO NOT SWITCH ON IF THE HOT TANK IS EMPTY.
