File Conversion
Your DT includes a CD with file conversion software:
- Free Image Converter: This utility scales and converts common still image formats (JPEG, JPG, JPE, JFIF, BMP, DIB, GIF, TIF, TIFF, and PNG) to the proper JPG format for your DT player. It can be found in the Image-TOOLS directory on the CD.
- AVI Converter: This utility scales and converts common video formats (WMV, RM, AVI, VOB, and DAT) to the proper AVI format for use with your DT player. It is located in the AVI-TOOLS directory on the CD.
Free Image Converter Software
For optimal image quality, it is recommended that photo images have a resolution of 640x480. This image scaling tool is useful for resizing images when manually copying files from your PC to the DT device. The iTAG web management utility automatically scales images to 640x480 when uploaded to the server, making this utility unnecessary when using iTAG.
How to bulk convert images using Free Image Converter (3 easy steps)
- Add images to convert: Use the "Add Images..." button. Multiple files can be selected using the CTRL key, or you can use "Add Folder..." to add all images from a selected folder.
- Set Conversion Options: In the upper right window, select the desired resolution, such as 640x480. A preview window in the lower right corner shows the selected file; a black area indicates the original image may not have the correct proportions to fill the screen.
- Select a destination for the converted files: Click "Convert...". You will be prompted to choose a destination folder for your converted files. The conversion process will begin, and you should wait until all images are processed.
AVI Conversion Software
The "AVI Converter" scales and converts common video formats (WMV, RM, AVI, VOB, and DAT) to the proper AVI format for your DT player. All SD (640x480) video files (.wmv, .mpg, etc.) must be converted to 320x240 resolution for proper playback on the DT device. The software is on the supplied Mini-CD; install and run the application.
Steps for conversion:
- Click the "Add" button at the bottom of the window.
- Select a video to be converted by browsing using the “Source File” dropdown window.
- Select the location to save your converted files using the "Target File Path" dropdown window.
- After selecting a video file, click the “Save” button to add it to the list of files to convert. Repeat this for all files. Click the "Close" button when done.
- The list of files to be converted will appear. Click the “Convert Now” button to begin. The conversion progress will be displayed in the “Status” column.
iTAG Web Based Management Utility
Visit www.itagsign.com to access the iTAG web-based management utility for DT devices. This service requires a username and password, available for a small monthly subscription fee. Log in to manage your devices.
3 Quick Steps
Step 1: Create A Group Name
- Click on the GROUP tab.
- Click on "Add Group".
- Enter a group name in the "Group Name" box. The "Description" field is optional. Click "Add" when finished. The group will then appear on the Group page.
Step 2: Create Device ID
- Click on the DEVICE tab.
- Click "Add Device".
Field Descriptions:
- ID: A unique 10-digit ID automatically generated by iTAG, used to identify DT devices when communicating with the iTAG server. This ID is entered into the 'Gateway.exe' software on your PC. Multiple DT devices can share the same ID, meaning content for all devices with that ID will be identical.
- Device: You must enter a device name.
- Location: Optional field for your own use.
- Category: Optional field for your own use.
- Description: Optional field for your own use.
- Group: Select the Group name this device belongs to. All devices in the same group will receive the same content.
- Enable Tag File: If set to 'YES', you can select a .jpg or .avi file as the device's personal file. This file is added to the playlist when the device downloads content from the iTAG server. If set to 'NO', no personal file is added.
Step 3: Upload Media Files to an Album
- Click the UPLOAD Tab.
- Select an existing album or create a new one.
- Browse to select media files. Multiple files can be selected using the CTRL key.
- Files can be removed from the list by selecting them and clicking the 'Remove' button.
- After selecting all files, click the 'Upload' button. All files will be uploaded to the iTAG server.
- JPG files will be auto-scaled to fit 640x480.
- Quality options are 100%, 75%, and 50%. 100% is recommended.
Album Page
The Album page displays content. Each album shows 3 thumbnail photos on the main page; a film reel image indicates a video file (no thumbnail is shown for video files). Clicking an album name or thumbnail opens the album page, displaying all included images. The file order shown does not necessarily reflect the display order on the DT device.
- Active: If checked, album contents download to assigned devices. If unchecked, the album is available for future use.
- Group Name: Assign the album to specific groups. Checked groups will synchronize the current album with their included DT devices.
- Delete File: A red "[X]" above each thumbnail photo deletes the file immediately.
- Save: Saves data changes for the album.
- Delete: Deletes the entire album.
Gateway PC Utility
The Gateway PC utility is located on the mini CD. Copy the GATEWAY.EXE
file to your PC and run it. It will initially display an ID entry window.
- Enter the 10-digit iTAG ID for first-time login. If you do not have an ID, ask your administrator.
- Enter the 10 digits ID assigned when you added your device on the iTAG server and click OK.
- Ensure your PC is connected to the internet.
- Connect your DT device to the PC's USB port.
- The Gateway will automatically download content from the iTAG server and copy it to your DT device(s).
Utility Functions:
- SYNC: Click SYNC to repeat the synchronization process to your DT device(s). Note: All files in the DT root directory will be deleted and replaced with downloaded media files. Back up any other data in the root directory before syncing.
- HIDE: Moves the Gateway application to the system tray icon. Click the icon to restore the full window view.
- Show Log: Displays log data for troubleshooting purposes.
Note: After running Gateway once, it becomes a startup program and runs automatically when your PC reboots.
