Attaching and Detaching the Lens
To attach the lens:
- Remove the rear lens cap.
- Align the Lens Attachment Mark ⑭ on the lens with the camera's attachment mark and insert the lens.
- Rotate the lens clockwise until it locks.
To detach the lens:
- Rotate the lens counter-clockwise while pressing the lens release button on the bottom of the camera.
Important: Turn off the camera before attaching or detaching the lens. Refer to your camera's manual for more details.
Changing Focus Mode
Select your desired focus mode on the camera.
For manual focus, rotate the Focus Ring ⑥. Refer to your camera's manual for more details.
Note: Autofocus may be difficult depending on the subject in AF mode.
VC (Vibration Compensation)
The VC (Vibration Compensation) system reduces blur in handheld shots.
Using the VC System
When using the VC system, set the camera's Steady Shot function to "ON". If the VC system is not needed, set Steady Shot to "OFF".
Press the shutter button halfway and ensure the image in the viewfinder is stable before taking the shot.
When VC Works Well:
- In dimly lit locations.
- In locations where flash photography is prohibited.
- In locations where a tripod cannot be used.
When VC May Not Work Well:
- In vehicles with significant vibration.
- When the camera is moving significantly at the moment of shooting.
- When shooting with a tripod.
Important Notes:
- Disable the camera's Steady Shot setting when shooting with a bulb setting (long exposure). Otherwise, VC may cause malfunction.
- The image in the viewfinder may appear blurry immediately after pressing the shutter button halfway. This is due to the operating principles of vibration compensation and is not a malfunction.
- When using the VC system, the number of shots per charge will decrease due to increased camera power consumption.
- Disable vibration compensation in the camera settings when shooting other than handheld (e.g., when using a tripod).
- You may hear the lens rattling when the camera is turned off or the lens is detached. This is not a malfunction.
Refer to your camera's manual for more details.
Focus Setting Button
Use the Focus Setting Button ⑩ to assign functions as specified by the camera. Refer to your camera's user manual for more information.
Connector Port (USB Type-C)
Lenses equipped with a Connector Port ⑬ can be connected to a computer using a TAMRON accessory cable (sold separately). This allows you to update the firmware using the TAMRON Lens Utility™ application and register functions to the Customizable Switch ⑫.
For more information, refer to the online help for the TAMRON Lens Utility application:
https://www.tamron.com/jp/consumer/support/help/lensutility/en/
Important:
- Do not use the TAMRON accessory cable (sold separately) for any purpose other than connecting the connector port of a TAMRON lens to a computer.
- Tamron is not responsible for data loss or damage resulting from the use of the TAMRON accessory cable (sold separately).
Customizable Switch
The Customizable Switch ⑫ allows you to change functions saved to the lens using the TAMRON Lens Utility application.
Zooming
Adjust the focal length (zoom position) to the desired setting by rotating the Zoom Ring ⑦.
Zoom Lock
The zoom ring ⑦ can be prevented from rotating by locking it at the 70mm focal length position.
Setting the Zoom Lock (Refer to Diagram 2)
Align the 70mm position on the Focal Length Scale ⑧ with the Focal Length Index ⑨. Set the Zoom Lock Switch ⑪ towards the target (lock position).
Releasing the Zoom Lock (Refer to Diagram 3)
Set the Zoom Lock Switch ⑪ towards the camera. Zoom by releasing the lock and then rotating the zoom ring.
Lens Hood
The Lens Hood ㉠ can prevent stray light from affecting the image.
Attaching the Lens Hood (Refer to Diagram 4)
Align the Lens Hood Mounting Direction Index ② on the lens hood with the Lens Hood Release Mark ⑤ on the lens. Rotate the lens hood ㉠ in the direction of the arrow until the Lens Hood Lock Mark ③ aligns with the Lens Hood Release Mark ⑤.
Storing the Lens Hood Reversed (Refer to Diagram 5)
Attach the lens hood ① in reverse and rotate it until it locks into place.
Note: Vignetting (darkening of the image edges) may occur if the lens hood is not attached correctly.
Precautions for Shooting
- The internal focus (IF) system is used to reduce the minimum focus distance. The angle of view may be wider than lenses using other focusing systems when the shooting distance is shorter than infinity.
- The flash light may be blocked by the lens hood or lens barrel. It is recommended to test shots beforehand.
- Due to differences in camera display systems, maximum and minimum aperture values may be displayed that differ from the specifications. This is not an error.
- Do not touch the Lens-Camera Connectors ⑮ with your fingers. Doing so may cause malfunction.
- If the temperature changes suddenly, condensation may form and cause malfunction.
- The front element of the lens has a dirt-repellent coating. After removing dust from the lens surface with a blower or other means, wipe it with a dry cloth.
- Never use benzene, thinner, or other organic solvents to clean the lens.
- Store the lens in a clean and well-ventilated place.
