Turn the lens clockwise for Sony E mounts or counter-clockwise for Nikon Z mounts until it clicks into place.
To remove the lens, turn the lens in the opposite direction while pressing the lens release button on the camera body.
Important:
- Turn off the camera before attaching or removing the lens.
- For details, please read your camera's instruction manual.
Focus Mode Switching
AF/MF Switch (See Fig. 1, 2)
For autofocus (AF) shooting, set the camera and the lens's AF/MF switch (11) to "AF". (If the lens is set to "MF", autofocus will not operate.)
For manual focus (MF) shooting, set the camera and/or the AF/MF switch (11) to "MF". To manually focus, turn the focus ring (7) to achieve focus. (See Fig. 1, 2)
- In AF mode, autofocus may have difficulty operating depending on the subject.
- For Sony E, if your camera is equipped with an AF/MF control button, it may be possible to temporarily switch to MF mode from AF mode by pressing the AF/MF control button. When the lens is set to "AF" and the camera is set to "MF", pressing the AF/MF control button allows temporary switching to AF focus.
- For Nikon Z, you can assign camera functions to the focus ring (7) (under Focus Mode/AF).
- For details, please read your camera's instruction manual.
Focus Adjustment Button (See Fig. 1)
Press the focus adjustment button (10) to use the function assigned by the camera. Consult the camera's manual for details.
Zoom Operation and Zoom Lock
Zoom (See Fig. 1)
Turn the zoom ring (13) to set the focal length (zoom position) to the desired setting.
Zoom Lock (See Fig. 1, 3, 4)
You can lock the zoom ring (13) at the 35mm focal length to prevent it from rotating.
- Setting the Zoom Lock (See Fig. 3): Align the 35mm mark on the focal length scale (8) with the focal length mark (9). Set the zoom lock switch (14) towards the camera.
- Unlocking the Zoom Lock (See Fig. 4): Set the zoom lock switch (14) towards the subject. To zoom, unlock the zoom mechanism, then turn the zoom ring.

The lens hood (1) can eliminate stray light rays that may affect the image.
- Using the Lens Hood (See Fig. 5): Align the lens hood alignment mark (3) on the hood with the lens hood release mark (6) on the lens. Turn the hood (1) in the direction of the arrow until the lens hood lock mark (4) meets the lens hood release mark (6).
- Storing the Lens Hood (See Fig. 6): Attach the hood (1) in reverse and turn it until it locks.
- Removing the Lens Hood: When removing the hood (1) from the use or storage positions, turn it in the opposite direction of installation while pressing the lens hood release button (2) on the lens.
Note: The periphery of the photographed image may darken if the hood (1) is not attached correctly.

Custom Switch (See Fig. 1)
Using the custom switch (12), you can change the functions registered on the lens with the dedicated "TAMRON Lens Utility" application.
Usage Precautions
- An internal focus (IF) system is used to reduce the minimum focusing distance. The angle of view may be wider than that of lenses using other focusing systems when shooting at distances closer than infinity.
- The lens hood or lens barrel may block light from the flash. It is recommended to perform test shots beforehand.
- Differences in camera display systems may result in different values being displayed than the minimum and maximum aperture values in the specifications. This is not an error.
- Do not touch the interface contacts (17) between the lens and the camera with your fingers. Doing so may cause a malfunction.
- If the temperature changes suddenly, condensation may form, causing malfunctions.
- The front lens element is coated with a stain-resistant treatment. After removing dust from the lens surface with a blower or other object, wipe it with a dry cloth.
- Never use benzene, thinner, or other organic solvents to clean the lens.
- Store the lens in a clean and properly ventilated place.
