Thank you for purchasing this Team Associated product. This assembly manual contains instructions and tips for building and maintaining your new RC8B3.1 Kit. Please take a moment to read through this manual to help familiarize yourself with these steps. Team Associated is continually changing and improving its designs; therefore, actual parts may appear slightly different than in the illustrations. New parts will be noted on supplementary sheets located in the appropriate parts bags. Check each bag for these sheets before you start to build.

Differential Build (Front and Rear) - Bag 1.1, 1.2
Step 1
Assemble the differential case (81379) with the outdrive O-ring (81385), bearing (91564), pin (81380), and diff shim (81381). Insert the 17mm outdrive for the front diff (81012) or the 15mm outdrive for the rear diff (81008). Align the pin with the groove in the sun gear (81380). ? Note: Ensure correct outdrive is used for front or rear.
Step 2
Insert two diff crosspins (81380) into the diff case. Place four planet gears (81380) onto the crosspins. Add diff shims (81381) as needed. Place the diff sun gear (81380) into position. ? Racer's Tip: You can use #81385 Planet O-Ring between the Planet Gears and the Diff Shims as a tuning option. Do not install the 3.3x1.5mm Planet O-Ring for the kit setup.
Step 3
Repeat assembly for the other side of the differential. Install the outdrive O-ring (81385), bearing (91564), pin (81380), and diff shim (81381). Insert the appropriate outdrive (81012 for front, 81008 for rear). Align the pin with the groove in the sun gear (81380). Install the diff ring gear (81002).
Step 4
Apply [black grease] (#6588) to the diff gasket (81384) before installation. Place the gasket onto the differential assembly. Secure the differential case halves using four 3x14mm FHCS (89208). Fill the differential with the specified diff fluid (e.g., 5,000cst #5453 for front/rear). ? Racer's Tip: Fill diff above the cross pins, below the planet gears as shown in the diagram.
Differential Build (Center) - Bag 1.1, 1.2
Step 5
Assemble the center differential case (81379) with the outdrive O-ring (81385), bearing (91564), pin (81380), and diff shim (81381). Insert the 17mm outdrive for the center diff (81012). Align the pin with the groove in the sun gear (81380).
Step 6
Insert two diff crosspins (81380) into the diff case. Place four planet gears (81380) onto the crosspins. Add diff shims (81381) as needed. Place the diff sun gear (81380) into position. ? Racer's Tip: You can use #81385 Planet O-Ring between the Planet Gears and the Diff Shims as a tuning option.
Step 7
Repeat assembly for the other side of the center differential. Install the outdrive O-ring (81385), bearing (91564), pin (81380), and diff shim (81381). Insert the 17mm outdrive for the center diff (81012). Align the pin with the groove in the sun gear (81380). Install the spur gear (81386, 46T).
Step 8
Apply [black grease] (#6588) to the diff gasket (81384) before installation. Place the gasket onto the differential assembly. Secure the differential case halves using four 3x14mm FHCS (89208). Fill the differential with the specified diff fluid (e.g., 5,000cst #5453 for center). ? Racer's Tip: Fill diff above the cross pins, below the planet gears as shown in the diagram.
Steering / Chassis Build - Bag 2.1, 2.2
Step 1
Attach side guards (81001) to the chassis (81000) using 3x6mm FHCS (31541) and 3x8mm FHCS (25201). Install steering posts (81091) using 3x8mm FHCS (25201) and 4x10mm FHCS (81262). Apply [threadlock] (#1596) to screws.
Step 2
Assemble the steering bellcrank (81086) with servo saver tube (81084), spring (81083), and spring nut/O-ring. ? Racer's Tip: Use [black grease] (#6588) to lubricate the bellcrank halves before installation.
Step 3
Install bearings (31404, 8680) into the steering bellcrank assembly. Secure the bellcrank to the chassis using 3x10mm BHCS (25211) and 3x8mm bearings (8680). Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 4
Attach steering bellcrank nuts (81088) to the steering rack (81089). Install turnbuckle balls (81397) into the steering rack. Secure the steering rack assembly to the chassis using 3x8mm FHCS (25201). Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Front Gearbox Build - Bag 3.1, 3.2
Step 1
Lubricate the diff pinion gear (81003) with [black grease] (#6588). Install the diff pinion gear (81003) into the gearbox (81015) with bearings (91561) and dust cap. Attach the center universal drive shaft (81020). Secure with 2.5x6mm FHCS (4675). Use 5x4mm set screw (89221) for the pinion.
Step 2
Install the FRONT Diff into the gearbox assembly. Attach the gearbox halves (81015) using 3x10mm SHCS (25620) and 2.5x18mm BHCS (81259). Attach the anti-roll bar cap (81015). Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 3
Adjust gear mesh by adding or subtracting shims on the appropriate side of the gearbox assembly. Recommended diff side-to-side clearance is 0.10 - 0.25mm. Install the front lower arms (81054) with arm mount inserts (81050) and hinge pins (81060). Use caster clips (e.g., 0.9mm, 1mm, 2mm) for caster adjustment. Note that arms are marked 'L' for left and 'R' for right.
Step 4
Attach arm mount inserts (81050) to the arm mounts (81291, 81292). Secure the arm mounts to the chassis brace using 4x12mm FHCS (89214) and M4 locknuts (89216). Use [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 5
Install the front bumper (81113) and chassis brace (81032) using 3x8mm FHCS (25201) and 4x12mm FHCS (89214). Attach the top plate (81030) and body posts (81112). Install arm mount inserts (81050) into the front arms. Use [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 6
Attach the front shock tower (81026) using 4x12mm FHCS (89214). Install shock bushings (81196) and upper hinge pins (81060) into the front upper arms (81055). Secure the arms to the chassis using 4x12mm FHCS (89214) and 3x24mm SHCS (89225). Note that arms are marked 'L' for left and 'R' for right. Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Front Uprights Build - Bag 4.1, 4.2
Step 1
Assemble the CVA coupler (81328) with the CVA axle (81326) and pin (81328). Install bearing (91566) into the steering block (81065). Secure the CVA axle with a 3x3mm set screw (25225). Lubricate with [black grease] (#6588).
Step 2
Install pillow balls (81067) into the steering block arms (81063, 81065). Attach the steering block assembly to the CVA coupler using 3x10mm BHCS (25211). Install wheel hexes (+1mm wide, 81079) with wheel hex pins (89096) and set screws (89221). Secure pillow ball nuts (81070) to the pillow balls. ? Tighten pillow ball nut until pillow ball begins to bind, then loosen until it moves freely. Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 3
Install turnbuckle balls (81397) into the suspension arm endcaps (81056). Use pillow ball shims (81072) as needed for proper alignment and adjustment.
Step 4
Attach the front bumper (81113) to the chassis using 4x10mm FHCS (81262) and M4 locknuts (89216). Secure the front gearbox assembly to the chassis using 4x12mm FHCS (89214) and 4x20mm FHCS (81264). Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Rear Gearbox Build - Bag 5.1, 5.2
Step 1
Lubricate the diff pinion gear (81003) with [black grease] (#6588). Install the diff pinion gear (81003) into the gearbox (81015) with bearings (91561) and dust cap. Attach the center universal drive shaft (81021). Secure with 2.5x6mm FHCS (4675). Use 5x4mm set screw (89221) for the pinion.
Step 2
Install the REAR Diff into the gearbox assembly. Attach the gearbox halves (81015) using 3x10mm SHCS (25620) and 2.5x18mm BHCS (81259). Attach the anti-roll bar cap (81015). Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 3
Install the rear arms (81058) with mud guards (81059) and arm mount inserts (81050). Secure the arm mounts to the gearbox assembly using 4x14mm BHCS (81260) and 3x6mm BHCS (31531). Note that arms are marked 'L' for left and 'R' for right.
Step 4
Install the rear arm shims (81058) and long hinge pins (81060). Secure the rear arm mounts (81293, 81294) to the chassis brace mount using 4x14mm BHCS (81260). Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 5
Attach the chassis brace (81032) and brace mount using 3x20mm BHCS (25188) and M3 locknuts with flange (25612). Install the rear shock tower (81027) and body posts (81112). Secure with 3x8mm FHCS (89214) and M3 locknuts with flange (25612). Use [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 6
Install shock bushings (81196) into the rear shock tower (81027). Attach the turnbuckles (81397) to the rear arms. Secure the shock tower assembly using 3x10mm BHCS (25211) and 3x12mm FHCS (25203). Use [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 7
Attach the wing mounts (81108) and wing (81106) to the rear shock tower assembly using 3x14mm BHCS (25187) and M3 locknuts (25215). Secure the wing mount to the chassis brace using 3x12mm FHCS (25203). Use [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 8
Secure the rear gearbox assembly to the chassis using 4x16mm FHCS (81263) and 4x12mm FHCS (89214). Use [threadlock] (#1596).
Rear Uprights / Turnbuckles Build - Bag 6.1, 5.2 cont.
Step 1
Assemble the CVA axle (81326) with the CVA coupler (81328) and pin (81328). Install bearings (91566, 91565) into the rear hub (81075). Secure the CVA axle with a 3x3mm set screw (25225). Lubricate with [black grease] (#6588). Install wheel hexes (+1mm wide, 81079) with wheel hex pins (89096) and set screws (89221). Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 2
Mount the rear hub to the rear arm using the lower hole. Install rod ends (81094) onto the turnbuckles (89269). Attach the rear hub shims (81075) and hub hinge pin (81076) to the rear hub. Secure the turnbuckle ball (81398) to the rod end. The rear hub turnbuckle length is approximately 15.50mm.
Step 3
Mount the rear camber link in the outside hole on the rear hub. Attach the rear arms to the chassis using 3x24mm BHCS (89204) and M3 locknuts with flange (25612). Secure the suspension components using 4x20mm FHCS (81264) and M4 locknuts (89216). Use [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 4
Assemble the steering turnbuckles (89526) with rod ends (81093). The steering turnbuckle length is approximately 24.90mm. ? Note direction for proper installation.
Center Bulkhead / Brakes Build - Bag 7.1, 7.2
Step 1
Assemble the brake system. Install brake pad springs (81038) and brake bolts (8149) into the brake pads (81039). Attach the brake rotors (81037) to the center bulkhead (81036). Secure using 2.5x8mm FHCS (31448). Build two sets (x2).
Step 2
Install C-clips (81256) onto the brake cam shafts (81040). Attach the brake cams (81040) and brake levers (81042) to the center top plate (81043). ? Note the direction of the center differential.
Step 3
Install brake levers (81042) between the brake cams. Secure with 3x10mm set screw (4671) at the front and 3x3mm set screw (25225) at the rear. Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 4
Attach the center bulkhead assembly to the chassis using 4x12mm FHCS (89214). Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Anti-Roll Bars Build - Bag 8.1
Step 1
Assemble the anti-roll bar pivots (81150) and rod ends (81150). Attach the anti-roll bar rods (81150) to the pivots. Secure with 3x16mm BHCS (89203) and 3x12mm set screw (81258). ? Note: Tighten the Anti-Roll Bar Rod Ends completely, then offset them approximately 45 degrees. Use 4x12mm FHCS (89214) to attach.
Step 2
Center the anti-roll bar collet (81150) on the anti-roll bar (81130 for front, 81140 for rear). Tighten the 3x3mm set screw (25225) to secure. The front anti-roll bar gap is 2.3mm. Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 3
Attach the anti-roll bar links to the chassis. Secure with 3x3mm set screws (25225) and 2.5x8mm BHCS (31521). Use 3x6mm set screws (81257) to allow free movement. Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 4
Finalize anti-roll bar connections. Secure with 3x3mm set screws (25225) and 2.5x8mm BHCS (31521). Use 3x6mm set screws (81257) to ensure the bar moves freely. Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Shocks Build - Bag 9.1, 9.2
Step 1
Prepare the shock shafts (81170 for front, 81171 for rear) and shock bodies (81160 for front, 81161 for rear). Install O-rings (81185, 81186) and seal retainer (81188) onto the shock shafts. Lubricate O-rings with [shock fluid] or [green slime] (#1105). Attach shock boots (81190) and rod ends (81193).
Step 2
Assemble the shock caps (81179, 81181) with bleeder caps (81179) and seals (81184). Ensure the seal is correctly seated. Fill shocks with specified [shock fluid] (35wt #5429 for front, 30wt #5422 for rear).
Step 3
Compress the shock shaft fully. Allow shock fluid to bleed from the bleeder hole. Secure the shock cap to the body using 2x4mm BHCS (91492) and gasket (91492), but do not overtighten. ? Some residual shock fluid may appear around the shock cap after bleeding.
Step 4
Install spring collars (81221) and spring collar O-rings (81221) onto the shock shafts. Place springs (V2 Front Blue 5.50lb/in, 81225; V2 Rear Blue 4.30lb/in, 81231) onto the shock bodies. ? Springs come with a colored marking for easy identification.
Step 5
Mount the front shock in the outside hole on the front arm. Mount the rear shock in the outside hole on the rear arm. Secure shocks using shock pins (81197) and M3 locknuts with flange (25612). Use 3x6mm set screws (81257) to secure the pins.
Radio Tray Build - Bag 10.1, 10.2, 10.3
Step 1
Attach radio tray posts (81102) to the radio tray (81100) using 2.5x8mm FHCS (31448). Install receiver box grommets (9907) and receiver box (81102). Secure with 3x6mm set screws (81257).
Step 2
Mount servos (not included) to the radio tray using servo spacers (89023) and 3x8mm washers (89218). Secure servos with 3x14mm BHCS (25187). Ensure servos do not touch the chassis. Attach transponder mount (81102) using 3x8mm FHCS (25201).
Step 3
Install the receiver battery tray (81103). Secure components using 3x6mm BHCS (31531). Use servo tape (6727) for battery installation.
Step 4
Secure the battery further with strapping tape (not included). Use 3x8mm FHCS (25201) for mounting.
Step 5
Install the antenna tube and cap (6338). Secure the receiver box lid (81102) using 2.5x8mm FHCS (31448). ? If using a receiver switch, carefully remove material from the receiver box lid to mount the switch.
Step 6
Finalize radio tray installation. Secure components using 4x12mm FHCS (89214).
Servo Horns / Linkage Build - Bag 11.1, 11.2
Step 1
Assemble the steering servo horn (81250) with inserts and cone washer. Attach HD ball studs (91048, 91050) to the steering linkage. Connect the steering servo horn to the steering rack using the servo horn pivot (81250). The steering servo turnbuckle length is approximately 11.50mm. Note servo horn brand compatibility (Airtronics, Futaba, Hitec, JR/KO).
Step 2
Center the servos before horn installation. Assemble the throttle servo horn (81250) with pivot (81251), bushings (81251), and washers (81251). Secure with 3x8mm FHCS (25201) and 2x16mm SHCS (7184). Attach the throttle linkage using ball cups (81250) and springs (81251).
Step 3
Install brake linkage components. Attach brake links (81251) to the servo horn pivots. Secure with 3x3mm set screws (25225). Ensure brake links are flush with the back of the servo horn pivots. Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 4
Complete throttle linkage setup. Secure servo horns with 3x8mm FHCS (25201). Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Engine / Tank Build - Bag 12.1, 12.2, 12.3
Step 1
Install fuel tank clips (81120) and fuel tank posts (81122) onto the chassis. Secure the fuel tank (81120) using nylon wire ties (3719). Attach brake linkage springs (81251) and set collars (81251) to the linkage. Use [threadlock] (#1596) on screws.
Step 2
Install the flywheel collet (81371) and flywheel nut (81372) onto the engine crankshaft. Attach the flywheel (81370, 4-shoe) and secure with the nut. Install clutch shoe pins (81373).
Step 3
Assemble the clutch shoes (81375, 81402) with springs (81365, 81366). Ensure the short end of the spring is in the flywheel and the long end is in the clutch shoe.
Step 4
Install the clutch bell (81374, 13T) onto the flywheel assembly. Use clutch shims (89148) and 3x8mm SHCS (89223) to achieve recommended axial play of 0.2 - 0.5mm. Install bearings (91560).
Step 5
Assemble the air filter components: boot (81124), mount (81124), and element (81125). Secure with 3x10mm SHCS (25620) and nylon wire ties (3719). ? Oiling filter elements: place inside a plastic bag and squeeze to evenly coat.
Step 6
Install engine mounts (81115) onto the chassis using [threadlock] (#1596). Attach pipe mount (81118) using 3x6mm BHCS (31531) and 4x10mm FHCS (81262). Use [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 7
Attach the air filter mount (81124) to the engine. Use [threadlock] (#1596) on screws and washers (89218). Secure the pipe mount (81118) with 4x10mm FHCS (81262) and 4x4mm set screw (7732). Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 8
Install the engine onto the engine mounts. ? Ensure the rear driveshaft does not interfere with the engine mount; material may need to be removed from the mount for fitment. Apply [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 9
Secure the engine mount assembly using 4x10mm FHCS (81262) and engine mount washers (81114). Use [threadlock] (#1596).
Step 10
Connect the pressure line from the fuel tank lid to the exhaust pipe and the fuel line from the fuel tank to the carburetor.
Wheels / Tires / Body - Misc.
Step 1
Wheels, tires, and foam inserts are not included. Build four wheels/tires. ? Tires: When gluing tires to wheels, use fast-curing tire glue (CA) (#1597). Clean mounting surfaces with alcohol for best adhesion.
Step 2
Install wheel nuts (81082) with the serrated edge towards the wheel.
Step 3
Painting Tips: Wash the clear polycarbonate body thoroughly with warm water and liquid detergent. Dry with a lint-free cloth. Install window masks on the inside. Use high-quality masking tape to create designs. Spray R/C specific paint (rattle can or airbrush) onto the inside of the body. Use ONLY paint recommended for polycarbonate plastics. After painting, cut the body along trim lines and drill holes for body mounts and antenna.
Droop Settings
Set droop by measuring the overall length of the shock while the chassis is elevated and shocks are fully extended. Kit setup: Front droop is 104mm shock length, rear is 120mm. Adjust droop screws clockwise to shorten shock length or counter-clockwise to lengthen.
Front Droop: Increasing droop (loosen screws) increases off-throttle steering and rear grip. Decreasing droop (tighten screws) yields more on-power steering and quicker response.
