Introduction

Thank you for purchasing this Team Associated product. This assembly manual contains instructions and tips for building and maintaining your new RC10B5M Factory Lite Team Kit. Please take a moment to read through this manual to help familiarize yourself with these steps. We are continually changing and improving our designs; therefore, actual parts may appear slightly different than in the illustrations. New parts will be noted on supplementary sheets located in the appropriate parts bags. Check each bag for these sheets before you start to build.

KIT Features

Assembly Instructions

Follow these step-by-step instructions to assemble your RC10B5M Factory Lite Team Kit. Refer to the parts bags (A, AA, B, C, etc.) for the components needed for each step.

Bag A - AA - Step 1: Front Top Plate and Steering Build

Assemble the steering bellcrank brace and steering rack. Attach the steering rack to the brace using two M3 x 12mm BHCS screws. Ensure free movement of the steering rack and do not overtighten the bolts. Install two red O-rings and two heavy-duty 8mm ballstuds. Use two FT Ballstud Washers (2mm) on the ballstuds.

Bag A - AA - Step 2: Front Top Plate and Steering Build

Attach the steering bellcrank brace to the B5 Top Plate using two M3 x 22mm BHCS screws. Install four 3 x 7 x 3 ball bearings into the steering bellcrank brace and steering rack assembly.

Bag A - AA - Step 3: Front Top Plate and Steering Build

Mount the RC10B5M Front Chassis Plate (#91512) to the RC10B5M Factory Lite Chassis (#91511) using five M3 x 10mm FHCS screws. Attach the Chassis Cradle (#91514) to the chassis using six M3 x 8mm FHCS screws. Ensure any flashing material is removed from part #91512 for a smooth fit.

Bag A - AA - Step 4: Front Top Plate and Steering Build

Attach the standard 25° bulkhead to the chassis assembly using two M3 x 10mm FHCS screws and two M3 x 16mm FHCS screws.

Bag B - Step 1: Front Arms and Uprights Build

Assemble the steering blocks and front axles. Attach the steering blocks (#91404) to the front arms (#91398) using M3 x 5mm BHCS screws and thread lock. Install two 5 x 10 x 4 bearings into each steering block. Attach the front axles (#91411) using crush tubes (#91407). Install the trailing axle inserts, ensuring the arrow points forward. Use two M3 locknuts (black) to secure the steering blocks.

Bag B - Step 2: Front Arms and Uprights Build

Assemble the caster blocks. Install two 5° caster block inserts (#91400) into the caster blocks (#91400). Attach the caster blocks to the steering blocks using heavy-duty 10mm ballstuds and M3 locknuts (black). Optional #31520 screws can be used as steering stops, and #4670 set screws can secure the inserts and hinge pin.

Bag B - Step 3: Front Arms and Uprights Build

Assemble the front arms. Mount the front arms (#91398) to the chassis using M3 x 12mm BHCS screws. Install caster block bushings (#91402) and caster block spacers (#91400). Secure the arms with front hinge pins (#91394) and M2 x 4mm BHCS screws.

Bag C - Step 1: Shock Towers and Rear Chassis Brace Build

Attach the front bumper (#91410) to the front hinge pin brace (#91371) using two M2.5 x 8mm BHCS screws. Secure the brace to the chassis using two M3 x 16mm FHCS screws.

Bag C - Step 2: Shock Towers and Rear Chassis Brace Build

Mount the front shock tower (#91373) to the chassis using four M3 x 24mm BHCS screws and two M3 nuts (black). Attach two heavy-duty 10mm ballstuds with two FT Ballstud Washers (1mm) to the shock tower.

Bag C - Step 3: Shock Towers and Rear Chassis Brace Build

Assemble the rear arms (#91412) and arm mounts. Attach the arm mounts (C and D, #91532) to the chassis using two M3 x 10mm FHCS screws. Secure the rear arms to the arm mounts using rear inner hinge pins (#91394) and two M3 locknuts (black).

Bag C - Step 4: Shock Towers and Rear Chassis Brace Build

Mount the rear shock tower (#91518) to the chassis using four M3 x 10mm FHCS screws and two M3 nuts (black). Attach two heavy-duty 10mm ballstuds with two FT Ballstud Washers (1mm & 2mm) to the shock tower. Mount the rear wing mount (#91531). Install the aluminum rear ball stud mount (#91520) at the -2mm setting.

Bag C - Step 5: Shock Towers and Rear Chassis Brace Build

Attach the rear bumper (#91531) to the chassis using two M3 x 10mm FHCS screws and thread lock. Secure the bumper with two M3 x 18mm FHCS screws.

Bag D - DD - Step 1: Differential Build

Assemble the ball differential components. Place two diff drive rings (#7666) and the 52T diff gear (#91419) into the differential housing. Install 14 x 3/32" carbide diff balls (#6581) into the drive rings.

Bag D - DD - Step 2: Differential Build

Install the ball diff outdrives (#91420) into the differential. Place two 5 x 8mm bearings (#31400) into the outdrives. Secure the differential with two diff thrust washers (#6573) and two diff thrust bolts (#6573). Use #6588 black grease on the thrust washers.

Bag D - DD - Step 3: Differential Build

Assemble the ball differential. Compress the diff thrust spring (#6582) using the locking t-nut (#6575) and diff thrust bolt (#6573). Tighten the bolt until the spring is fully compressed, then loosen 1/8 turn. Ensure smooth operation with resistance. Re-check after first drive.

Bag E - Step 1: Gearbox Build

Install bearings into the gearbox components. Place two 5 x 10 x 4 bearings (#91560) and two 10 x 15 x 4 bearings (#91563) into the 3 Gear V2 gearbox halves (#91607). Install the aluminum top shaft (#91606) and the idler gear (#91429) with its shaft (#91011).

Bag E - Step 2: Gearbox Build

Mount the assembled differential into the gearbox. Install the gearbox onto the chassis brace (#91521) using five M3 x 16mm BHCS screws. Secure the gearbox halves with two M3 x 6mm BHCS screws. Add a drop of diff lube (#6591) to the gear teeth. Ensure the head of the Diff Thrust Bolt (#6573) faces the spur gear side.

Bag F - FF - Step 1: Slipper Build

Assemble the slipper clutch. Mount the motor plate (#91603) to the chassis using three M3 x 10mm FHCS screws. Install two slipper pads (#9603) and two FT V2 slipper hubs (#7485). Install the 78T 48P spur gear (#9652). A 69T 48P spur gear (#9648) is also included for stock motor use.

Bag F - FF - Step 2: Slipper Build

Install the slipper spring (#9739) and slipper spring adapter (#91423). Secure with an M4 locknut with flange (#91148). Ensure the set nut is flush with the top shaft.

Bag F - FF - Step 3: Slipper Build

Mount the slipper assembly to the gearbox. Use two M3 x 10mm BHCS and two M3 x 18mm FHCS screws. Secure the gear cover (#91604) with four M3 x 10mm FHCS screws.

Bag G - GG - Step 1: Rear Hub and CVA Build

Assemble the rear hubs. Install two 10 x 15 x 4 bearings (#91563) and two 6 x 13 x 5 bearings (#91562) into the rear hubs (#91414). Attach the rear hub link inserts (#91414) and rear hub link nuts (#91416). Install heavy-duty 10mm ballstuds and secure with M3 locknuts (black). Use the appropriate rear hub insert (0°, 0.5°, 1°) for desired toe-in. Screw the ballstud into the link nut first, then secure with the locknut.

Bag G - GG - Step 2: Rear Hub and CVA Build

Assemble the CVA (Constant Velocity Axle) components. Install the CVA coupler (#91438) and CVA bone (#91439) onto the HD CVA axle (#71019). Use #6588 black grease.

Bag G - GG - Step 3: Rear Hub and CVA Build

Mount the CVA assembly to the rear hubs. Install rear hub spacers (#91414) and CVA wheel hex pins (#91436). Secure the clamping wheel hexes (7mm offset, #91610) using M1.6 x 8mm SHCS screws. Attach the rear arms using rear outer hinge pins (#91394) and M2 x 4mm BHCS screws. Optional #4670 set screws can be used to secure hinge pins.

Bag H - Step 1: Turnbuckles Build

Assemble the steering turnbuckles. Install two HD ball cups (#91453) onto each 1.875" Ti turnbuckle (#1405). Orient the notch to the left to indicate the left-hand thread. Use black grease (#6588) on threads for easier installation. Install ballstuds on the curved side of the ballcup.

Bag H - Step 2: Turnbuckles Build

Assemble the front camber turnbuckles. Install two HD ball cups (#91453) onto each 1.875" Ti turnbuckle (#1405). Orient the notch to the left. Use black grease (#6588) on threads. Install ballstuds on the curved side of the ballcup.

Bag H - Step 3: Turnbuckles Build

Assemble the rear camber turnbuckles. Install two HD ball cups (#91453) onto each 1.875" Ti turnbuckle (#1405). Orient the notch to the left. Use black grease (#6588) on threads. Install ballstuds on the curved side of the ballcup.

Bag I - II - Step 1: Shocks Build

Prepare the shock components. Select the 12mm shock pistons (#91308) (1.6mm for front and rear). Install 1/8 E-clips (#6299) onto the shock shafts (3 x 21mm for front, #91488; 3 x 27.5mm for rear, #91489). Use two nylon spacers (#4187) on each shock shaft.

Bag I - II - Step 2: Shocks Build

Assemble the shock bodies and caps. Use 12x23mm V2 shock bodies for the front (#91480) and 12x31mm V2 shock bodies for the rear (#91482). Install V2 shock cap O-rings (#91491), V2 shock hat bushings (#91491), and VCS3 shock bottom cap O-rings (#31327). Lightly lubricate O-rings with shock oil or Green Slime (#1105).

Bag I - II - Step 3: Shocks Build

Fill and bleed the shocks. Use 32.5 wt silicone shock fluid. Follow the 10-step bleeding procedure: thread bleed screw, pull shaft, fill 3/4, move shaft to remove air, wait for bubbles, fill to top, add oil to cap and threads, install cap, compress shaft to bleed excess fluid, install bleed screw. Measure free length (Front: 75.5mm, Rear: 89mm) and stroke (Front: 20mm, Rear: 26.5mm).

Bag I - II - Step 4: Shocks Build

Install shock collars, springs, and spring cups. Use four 12mm threaded collars (#91304) and four 12mm shock spring cups (#91310). Install the white front springs (#91328, 3.30lb) and white rear springs (#91337, 2.10lb). Adjust spring cup offset (Front: 5.00mm, Rear: 5.75mm).

Bag I - II - Step 5: Shocks Build

Mount the assembled shocks to the chassis. Use shock bushings (#91445). For the front, use the outside hole in the front arm. For the rear, use the inside hole in the rear arm. Secure with M3 x 22mm BHCS screws and FT locknuts (blue, #25392) for the front, and M3 x 12mm BHCS screws and FT locknuts (blue, #25392) for the rear.

Bag J - Step 1: Electronics Build

Mount the servo. Install servo mounts (#91443) and servo spacers (#91455) onto the chassis. Use M3 x 8mm BHCS screws and gold washers (#7337). Attach the servo horn (#9180) to the servo (not included) ensuring it is aligned at 90 degrees. Use the steering link (#91455).

Bag J - Step 2: Electronics Build

Install the motor and gear cover. Mount the motor (not included) and ensure proper gear mesh with the spur gear (refer to page 19). Install the B5M Gear Cover (#91604) using two M3 x 5mm BHCS screws. Install the belt cover cap (#91089).

Bag J - Step 3: Electronics Build

Install the receiver and antenna. Use servo tape (#6727) to secure the receiver (not included). Install the antenna tube and cap (#6338). Two options for antenna mounting are available.

Bag J - Step 4: Electronics Build

Install battery spacers. Place RC10B5M Battery Spacers (#91536) as needed to secure the battery (not included).

Bag J - Step 5: Electronics Build

Secure the battery. Use battery strap thumb wheels (#91458) and the RC10B5M Battery Strap (#91534) to hold the battery (not included) in place.

Bag K - Step 1: Wheels, Tires, and Body Build

Glue tires to wheels. Apply CA glue (#1597) to the tire bead on both sides of the tire and wheel. Allow to dry before proceeding. Tires, inserts, and wheels are not included.

Bag K - Step 2: Wheels, Tires, and Body Build

Mount wheels to the axles. Secure the wheels using M4 locknuts with flange (#91148).

Bag K - Step 3: Wheels, Tires, and Body Build

Mount the rear body mounts (#91531). The body trimming options (A, B, C, D) are described for 3-gear, 4-gear, or universal layouts.

Bag K - Step 4: Wheels, Tires, and Body Build

Attach the clear body (#91537) using small body clips (#21173). Alternatively, hook and loop tape can be used.

Bag K - Step 5: Wheels, Tires, and Body Build

Attach the clear wing (#91471) using small body clips (#21173) and wing angle shims (#91531). Painting tips for polycarbonate bodies are provided, emphasizing cleaning, masking, and using appropriate paints.

Tuning Tips

Tips for Beginners

Before making any changes, focus on consistent laps without crashing. Make only one adjustment at a time and test its effect. Record successful changes on the setup sheet. Keep suspension components clean and moving freely.

Motor Gearing

Proper motor gearing maximizes performance and run time while reducing overheating. The gear ratio chart below provides recommended starting points. Consult motor and ESC manufacturers for specific information. Team Associated is not responsible for motor damage due to improper gearing.

* These gearings are for use with advanced timing speed control settings!

Set The Gear Mesh

Ensure a slight rocking motion of the spur gear in the pinion gear teeth without moving the pinion. Adjust motor position if the mesh is too tight or loose, as this will reduce power and damage gear teeth.

Slipper Clutch

Set the nut on the shaft so the end of the top shaft is even with the outside of the nut. At the track, adjust in 1/8 turn increments until a faint slipping sound is heard on takeoffs. Alternatively, hold rear tires and apply short throttle bursts; the front tires should lift slightly.

Ride Height

Ride height is the distance from the ground to the chassis bottom. Standard front ride height is with arms level or 24mm. Measure after dropping the car from 8-12 inches. Adjust shock collars to level the arms. For rear ride height, aim for outdrive, driveshaft, and axles on the same horizontal line, or 24mm. Adjust shock collars to level the driveshafts.

* Front arms inner and outer hinge pins should be in an imaginary horizontal line when ride height is set.

* CVA bones should be in a straight line when ride height is set at "CVA bones level".

Wheelbase Adjustment

Three rear hub spacing options (Forward, Middle, Back) affect wheelbase. Middle is the neutral kit setting. Moving hubs to the Back position can improve handling in bumps and 180° turns.

* Spacers to the rear will place hubs forward, shortening the wheelbase.

Front Camber

Camber is the angle of the tire/wheel from the front. Negative camber (top leans inward) is recommended, starting at -1°. Positive camber is not recommended. An optional #1719 camber gauge can be used for accuracy.

* Testing camber with camber gauge.

Rear Camber

Camber is the angle of the tire/wheel from the rear. Negative camber (top leans inward) is recommended, starting at -1°. Small amounts of positive camber may improve straight-line acceleration on loose tracks. An optional #1719 camber gauge can be used for accuracy.

Front Camber Links

Adjusting camber link length affects roll and steering response. Shortening the link (or lowering ball end) reduces front roll and quickens steering. Lengthening increases roll and slows steering. Longer links suit high-grip tracks; shorter links suit medium-grip loose tracks.

* Raise or lower the ball end by adding or subtracting washers here.

Rear Camber Link

Adjusting rear camber link length affects rear roll and acceleration. Shortening the link (or lowering ball end) reduces rear roll and improves acceleration. Lengthening increases roll and cornering grip. Longer links suit high-grip tracks; shorter links suit medium-grip loose tracks. The kit setting offers a compromise.

* Raise or lower the ball end by adding or subtracting washers here.

Kickup

Kickup is the angle of the front suspension arm mounts. The standard B5M kickup is 25°. The included 30° front bulkhead can be used for more corner entry steering. Adjust bumpsteer accordingly.

Caster

Caster is the angle of the kingpin. Positive caster (top leans rearward) is used. The B5M has 0° and +5° caster block inserts. Standard total caster is 30° (25° kickup + 5° caster block). Use 0° caster block angle for less entry steering and more exit steering.

Trailing Axle

Trailing axle is the distance from the kingpin to the axle. The B5M offers 4mm (standard), 3mm, and 2mm positions. 4mm provides stable handling. 3mm offers more corner entry steering. Adjust ackermann and wheelbase to match.

Ackermann

Ackermann is the angle difference between front wheels during turns. The kit setup uses 2mm washers for standard ackermann. Increasing ackermann (removing shims) makes the car more stable on corner entry. Decreasing it offers more aggressive corner entry steering.

Anti-Roll Bars

Optional #91535 rear anti-roll bar kits add roll resistance to the rear. They are helpful on high-grip tracks (gold bar). Silver and black bars are for medium-grip loose tracks.
