Thank you for purchasing this Team Associated product. This assembly manual contains instructions and tips for building and maintaining your new RC12R6 Kit. Please take a moment to read through this manual to help familiarize yourself with these steps. We are continually changing and improving our designs; therefore, actual parts may appear slightly different than in the illustrations. New parts will be noted on supplementary sheets located in the appropriate parts bags. Check each bag for these sheets before you start to build.

Assembly Guide

Shock, Damper Tubes, & Turnbuckles Build (Bag 1.1, 1.2)

Step 1

This step involves assembling the shock absorber. Components include: 12R6 Shock Body (4767) with genuine Kashima Coat, 12R6 Shock Shaft (4768), Piston (1 hole, 4768), E-Clip (4768), Shock Shaft Bushing (4773), O-Ring (21332), Shock Bladder (4773), Shock Collar (4767), Shock Collar O-Ring, FT Pivot Ball (4637), 12R6 Shock Cap Retainer (4774), 12R6 Shock Cap, Top (4774), 12R6 Shock Cap, Bottom (4774). Use 30wt shock fluid (#5422).

Step 2: Bladder Installation

With the shaft extended 25%, place the bladder on the top of the shock body, displacing the extra oil. While maintaining pressure on the bladder against the shock body, carefully lift one side of the bladder to allow any extra oil to escape. Place the shock cap on top of the bladder and secure it by threading the aluminum cap retainer onto the shock body. Components include: 12R6 Shock Rod End (4779), 12R6 Shock Shaft Extension (4779), FT Pivot Ball (4637), 12R6 Shock Spring, Gray (11.8lb) (4783), M3x3mm Set Screw (25225), 12R6 Shock Eyelet (4774).

Step 3

Build two dampers. Components include: Damper Tube (4786), Damper Tube Shaft (4787), 3x8mm Set Screw (4670), Anti Roll Bar Cup (8828). Use 15k cst shock fluid (#5447).

Step 4: Steering Turnbuckle

Build two (right and left side) steering turnbuckles. Components include: Turnbuckle Eyelet (31305), 3x45mm Turnbuckle (4404). The length is 30.20mm. Racers Tip: Use black grease (#6588) on the threads of the turnbuckles for easier ball cup installation. Orient the line to the left throughout the car; it indicates which end has the left-hand threads.

Rear Pod Build (Bag 2.1, 2.2)

Step 1

Install the pivot ball to the rear pod. Snap the pivot brace slider onto the pivot ball. Components include: 12R6 LR Bulkhead (4730), 12R6 Motor Mount (4729), 12R6 Motor Mount Brace (4722), 12R6 Lower Pod Plate, Aluminum (4717), 3x6mm FHCS (31541), 3x6mm BHCS (31531), Pivot Brace Slider (4728), FT Pivot Ball (4637).

Step 2

Install the pivot brace to the chassis. Slide the rear pod into the pivot brace. Components include: Pivot Brace (4726), 12R6 Chassis, Aluminum (4715), 3x6mm FHCS (31541).

Step 3

Build two sets of rear pod links. Use #7186 SHCS to adjust for free ball movement. Components include: 2x6mm SHCS (7186), Rear Pod Link (4728), FT Pivot Ball (4637).

Step 4

Build right and left sides. Components include: Aluminum Ballstud Washer, 5.5x2mm (31383), Ballstud Long, 8mm (Silver) (31284), 3x8mm Set Screw (4670), 12R6 Chassis Brace, Right Side (4721), FT Aluminum M3 Locknut, Blue (31550), Side Spring Retainer (4707), Side Spring, 4.7lb/in - White (4792), 3x6mm FHCS (31541).

Step 5

Components include: M3 Nut, Black (91477), FT Aluminum M3 Locknut, Blue (31550), 12R6 Upper Pod Plate (4718), 3x8mm BHCS (31532), Ballstud Long, 5mm (Silver) (31283), 3x6mm FHCS (31541), 3x6mm BHCS (31531).

Front Suspension Build (Bag 3.1)

Step 1

Build right and left sides. Components include: RC12R6 Upper Arm Mount (4749), RC12R6 Front Bulkhead (4741), RC12R6 Upper Arm Mount Inserts (3 Dot) (4749), 3x10mm BHCS (25211). Dynamic Strut angles: 0°, 2.5°, 5°, 7.5°, 10° (KIT).

Step 2

Build right and left sides. Components include: RC12R6 Front Axle (4760), Ballstud Long, 5mm (31283), RC12R6 Steering Blocks (4759), Suspension Arm Pivot Ball, Upper (4755), 12R6 Arm Eyelet (4753), 3x16mm Turnbuckle (8811), FT Aluminum M3 Locknut, Blue (31550), RC12R6 Suspension Arm, Upper (4750). Dimensions: 3.50mm.

Step 3

Build right and left sides. Components include: Suspension Arm Pivot Ball Bushing (4754), O-Ring, Suspension Arm Pivot Ball, Lower (4755), RC12R6 Suspension Arm (4723), RC12R6 3x27.5mm Kingpin (4758), Springs, .020, Short (4113), E-Clip (6299), 3x6mm BHCS (31531). Racer's Tip: Use CA Glue for permanent mounting. Use #5447 Diff Fluid.

Step 4

Build right and left sides. Components include: E-Clip (6299), 12R6 Hinge Pin (4752), Kingpin Shims (8425), Caster Clips (2° & 4°) (4753), Caster Shim (4753), 3x3mm Set Screw (25225). Caster Adjustment: 2° (0.55mm), 4° (1.10mm), 6°, 8° (KIT). Use #4753 Caster Shims to fine-tune caster by 1° increments.

Step 5

Components include: 3x6mm BHCS (31531), 12R6 Track Width Bushing (4745), 12R6 Suspension Arm Standoff (4740), Aluminum Bulkhead Washer 0.5mm (31384), 3x5mm FHCS (31540), 3x3mm Set Screw (25225). Track Width Bushings: LEFT/RIGHT options include -0mm (KIT), +0.5mm, +1mm, +1.5mm, +2mm.

Rear Axle Build (Bag 4.1, 4.2)

Step 1

Kit Setup: Note the rear axle height adjusters orientation. Components include: Rear Axle Height Adjuster (0) (4731), Flanged Bearing, .250x.375x.125" (8681).

Step 2

Components include: Rear Axle (4735), FT Bearing .250x.375x.125" (8682), Spur Gear, 96T, 64P (4615), 2.5x8mm SHCS (89222), 12R6 Rear Hub, Left (4739), D-Drive Rings (8504), FT Carbide Diff Balls, 1/8" (6619), 12R6 Wheel Hub, Right (4738). Use #6636 Silicone grease. Do not over tighten #89222 SHCS.

Step 3

Components include: Diff Thrust Cone (4736), FT Thrust Bearing (4x10mm) (8683), Bellville Washer (4737), M4 LockNut Black (89216). Thrust Bearing Setup: Note orientation! Inside Washer (4.15), Outside Washer (4.00), 10.00, 9.85. Bellville Washer Setup: Note orientation! Curves facing outward. Tighten #89216 M4 Locknut so the spur gear just slips at start. Use #6588 black grease.

Chassis & Electronics Build (Bag 5.1, 5.2)

Step 1

Components include: 12R6 Servo Mount Standoff (4761), Battery Retainer (8608), 3x6mm FHCS (31541), 2.5x6mm FHCS (4675), 3x6mm BHCS (31531). Servo not included.

Step 2

Components include: FT Aluminum M3 Locknut, Blue (31550), Ballstud Long, 5mm (Silver) (31283), Servo Saver, Airtronics (3760), 3x6mm BHCS (31531). Servo screw not included. Compatible servos: KO, Jr, Sanwa, Airtronics: 23T #3760; Hi Tec: 24T; Reedy, XP, Futaba: 25T #3761.

Step 3

Components include: Antenna Rod, Fiberglass, with End Cap (4510), 12R6 Servo Mount Brace (4724), 12R6 Shock Mount (4764), 3x3mm Set Screw (25225), 3x6mm BHCS (31531).

Step 4

Components include: 3x6mm BHCS (31531). Center the servo horn to the chassis.

Step 5: Shock Length Setup

Kit Setup Options:

  • Shock Shaft Extension - Yes / Shock Shaft Spacer - No
  • Shock Shaft Extension - Yes / Shock Shaft Spacer - Yes
  • Shock Shaft Extension - No / Shock Shaft Spacer - No
  • Shock Shaft Extension - No / Shock Shaft Spacer - Yes

Step 6

Components include: FT Aluminum M3 Locknut, Blue (31550), 12R6 Bumper Brace (4725), 3x8mm FHCS (25201).

Step 7

Components include: 12R6 Bumper (4766), Body Mounts (4535), Body Pivot (3897), FT Short Body Clips, Blue (1736), 12R6 Chassis Cap (4766), 3x8mm FHCS (25201), 3x8mm BHCS (31532).

Step 8: Set The Gear Mesh

Motor and pinion/set screw not included. You should be able to slightly rock the spur gear teeth back and forth, without making the teeth of the pinion move. If the spur gear mesh is tight, then loosen the #25211 screws and move the motor away, then try again. A gear mesh that is too tight or too loose will reduce power and damage the gear teeth. Components include: 3x10mm BHCS (25211), Aluminum Ballstud Washer, 5.5x1mm (31382). Gearing will depend on the motor and track size. Motor, pinion gear, and set screw are not included.

Step 9

Tires/Wheels not included. Components include: FT Flanged Bearing, .125x.313x.141" (8685), M3 Locknut, Blue (31550), 12R6 Rear Hub SHCS (4732).

Step 10

Electronics & battery not included. Use strapping tape to secure battery to chassis! Not included.
