Fitting Instructions
Diagram 1: Drilling and Cutting Guide
This diagram illustrates a template for modifying a vehicle component. It shows a rectangular area with specific dimensions (e.g., 245mm length, 55mm width, 48mm height, 85mm depth, 95mm position). Two circular markings indicate drilling points, each requiring a ø12mm drill bit. The text "doorboren met ø12 mm" confirms these are drilling locations.
Diagram 2: Bumper Cut-out
This diagram shows a cross-sectional view of a vehicle bumper indicating an area that needs to be cut away. Dimensions provided include 30mm, 30mm, 46mm, 90mm, 120mm, and 85mm. Labels "B", "O", and "M" are used to identify specific parts of the bumper: "B" refers to the bumper itself, "O" to the lower rim of the bumper, and "M" to the middle section of the bumper.
Installation Steps
Preparation: Disassemble the vehicle's bumper. Remove the spare wheel, disconnect the exhaust from its rubber mounts, remove the heat shield, and permanently detach the plastic buffer beam and the towing ring located on the left side of the chassis.
Heat Shield Modification & Side Piece Installation: Make an incision in the heat shield following the guide in Fig. 1. Drill two ø12mm holes at the marked locations. Position the side pieces (labeled 1 and 2) such that points (A) are against the inner side of the chassis beams and points (B) are against the underside. Ensure the holes align with the vehicle's pre-threaded drillings. On the right side, re-attach the heat shield, fixing it with the tow bar bolts, but do not tighten them fully at this stage.
Tow Bar Attachment: Place the tow bar between the side pieces, aligning points (C) and (D) on the tow bar with the corresponding points on the side pieces. Insert the bolts and tighten all connections firmly according to the specified torque values.
Bumper Re-assembly: Place the plastic filler piece onto the provided supports on the tow bar (points E). Make a cut on the underside of the bumper as indicated in Fig. 2. Re-assemble the bumper onto the vehicle, ensuring points (F) align with the lower bumper fixings.
Ball Assembly: Mount the tow ball assembly, including the security shackle and the socket holder. Insert the bolts and tighten them firmly.
Important Advice
General Advice
Before starting installation, inspect the tow bar for any transport damage and verify it is the correct reference for your vehicle.
Read the fitting instructions carefully and follow all steps precisely.
Present the tow bar under the vehicle before commencing the installation to ensure proper fitment and alignment.
If drilling is required, check thoroughly to ensure no existing wiring, brake lines, or other critical components can be damaged. Remove any soundproofing material and treat all drilled holes and surrounding car body parts with an anti-corrosive paint or sealant.
For vehicles equipped with non-standard bumpers (e.g., special editions, sport packages, tuning modifications), it is essential to consult GDW's technical service before proceeding with the installation.
Guarantee
Never exceed the vehicle's indicated maximum towing weight, 'D' value, or 'S' value as specified in the documentation.
The tow bar must be inspected after the first 1,000 km of use and at least once every year.
Annual inspections should include: checking all bolt connections and retightening if necessary; repairing any paint damage; replacing any components that have been damaged due to an accident or collision; and greasing the internal parts of detachable tow bar systems.
Usage
If the tow ball obstructs the number plate or the fog light, it is mandatory to remove the tow ball when it is not in use for towing a trailer.
Clearance Specifications
Guideline Compliance
The installation must ensure clearance that complies with Appendix VII, Diagram 30 of guideline 94/20/EG.
Diagrams: Clearance Angles and Dimensions
The diagrams illustrate the required clearance angles and dimensions for the towbar installation. These specifications are critical for ensuring proper function and safety, particularly concerning the vehicle's laden weight and total permissible weight, and must adhere to the relevant European directives.
