1.2 This User Manual
This user manual is an integral part of the appliance and must be kept in good condition in an easily accessible place for the user throughout the entire lifespan of the appliance.
1.3 Intended Use
The appliance can be used to prepare espresso and cappuccino with coffee powder or pods. Any other use is incorrect. Do not use the appliance for purposes other than its intended use.
1.4 General Safety Instructions
- The appliance must not be used by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or with lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
- Children must be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
- Cleaning and maintenance must not be carried out by unsupervised children.
- Never immerse the appliance in water or other liquids.
- This appliance is exclusively intended for domestic use. Furthermore, it must not be used:
- in staff kitchens in shops, offices, and other work environments
- in farmhouses and by clients in hotels, motels, and residential areas
- in bed & breakfasts.

1.6 Identification Plate

2 Description
2.1 Product Description
The coffee machine consists of the following parts:

3 Use
3.1 Before First Use
- Remove any labels and stickers from the coffee machine.
- Carefully wash and dry the coffee machine parts (see "4 Cleaning and Maintenance").
- Remove the lid (1) by pulling it up, and pull out the water tank (2).
- Fill the water tank (2) with fresh water directly from the tap, or use a jug. Be careful not to exceed the maximum level indicated on the tank.

- Do not use the coffee machine without water in the tank or without the tank inserted.
[Information Symbol] The parts that come into contact with foodstuffs are made of materials that comply with legal requirements.
3.2 First Use
- Turn on the coffee machine by pressing the ON/OFF switch (1): The three indicator lights (2), (3), and (4) will flash in sequence.
- The indicator lights (2) and (3) flash to indicate that the machine is heating up to the preset temperature. The coffee machine is ready for use when the indicator lights are steady.
Before using the appliance for the first time, all internal circuits must be thoroughly rinsed:
- Insert the filter holder into the coffee machine.
- Place a container under the coffee outlet and press the button [coffee button].
- Repeat this procedure 5 times.
[Information Symbol] It is also recommended to perform this rinsing of the internal circuits if the coffee machine has been unused for a long time.
- Place a container under the hot water/steam tap (4).
- Turn the steam lever (5) to the [steam symbol] position and let 100 ml of water run out.
3.3 How to Prepare an Espresso Coffee
With coffee powder:
- Insert the coffee powder filter (1) into the machine's filter holder (2); choose between the filter for one cup [single cup symbol] or for two cups [double cup symbol].
- Press the coffee powder with the tamper (3).
Filters
The coffee machine is supplied with three filters: a filter for one cup, a filter for two cups, and a filter for coffee pods. The corresponding symbol is embossed under each filter.
Tips: Brew 4/5 cups of coffee or 4/5 cappuccinos to achieve a satisfactory result.
- If necessary, remove excess coffee powder from the edge of the filter holder. Insert the filter holder with the handle aligned with the [arrow symbol] and turn it to the right until it is in the [locked symbol] position.
- Place the cup or cups under the filter holder outlet and press the button [coffee button] or [double coffee button].
[Warning Symbol] Danger of scalding!
- To avoid splashing, do not remove the filter holder while water is running out. Wait a few seconds for the water to run out completely.
Tips:
- Add a level measuring spoon of coffee powder (approx. 7 grams) to the filter to brew one cup of coffee.
- Add two level measuring spoons to the filter for two cups of coffee.
- If you want very strong coffee, press the powder down firmly with the tamper.
- If you want mild coffee, press the powder lightly with the tamper.
[Information Symbol] It is normal for the first cups of coffee not to reach the correct temperature if the machine has been inactive for a longer period (a break of more than 30 minutes). Tips on how to get a hot cup of coffee immediately are provided in section "4.5 What to do if...".
With coffee pods:
- Insert the coffee pod [pod symbol] into the filter holder.
- Insert the pod as centrally as possible into the filter holder.
- Proceed as for brewing coffee with coffee powder.
[Warning Symbol] Danger of scalding!
- To avoid splashing, do not remove the filter holder while water is running out. Wait a few seconds for the water to run out completely.
- Water outlet can be interrupted at any time by pressing the outlet button.
- Keep the outlet button pressed if you want to increase the amount of coffee in the cup.
3.4 How to Prepare a Cappuccino
- Prepare the espresso coffee in a large cup.
- Press the button [steam button]: The indicator light flashes.
- Fill a container with 100 grams of cold semi-skimmed milk for each cappuccino you wish to prepare.
- When the indicator light is steady, place an empty container under the cappuccinator (1), and open the steam tap (2) to the [steam symbol] position to release any water. Then close the lever.
- Place the container with milk under the cappuccinator (1) by lowering the cappuccinator a few millimeters into the milk. Turn the lever (2) to the [steam symbol] position, and slowly move the container up and down to obtain a creamy foam.
Tips:
- If you wish to prepare several cappuccinos, first prepare the desired number of cups of coffee, and then froth the milk for all cappuccinos.
- For hygiene reasons, it is recommended to clean the steam tap after each use.
- Remove milk residues by turning the steam lever and letting steam run out.
- Let steam run out for a maximum of 60 seconds.
3.5 How to Dispense Hot Water
- Turn on the machine using the ON/OFF switch and wait until the coffee outlet indicator lights are steady.
- Place a container under the cappuccinator.
- Turn the steam lever to the [steam symbol] position to dispense hot water.
- Let steam run out for a maximum of 60 seconds.
3.6 How to Open the Programming Menu and Change Settings
- Ensure the machine is ready for use, and press and hold the button [coffee button] for 10 seconds until the three buttons start flashing: The machine is in programming mode.
- Set the machine to suit your needs.
- The menu is exited by waiting 15 seconds without pressing any button.
Setting the coffee temperature
- Open the programming menu.
- Press the button [coffee button] to select the coffee temperature. The indicator lights for the current setting will turn on:
- Indicator Light | Temperature Setting

- [Medium temp symbol] | Medium
- [High temp symbol] | High
- Press the button [coffee button] for the desired temperature: low [low temp symbol], medium, or high [high temp symbol].
- Release the button when the desired coffee quantity has been reached.
- The indicator light [coffee button] flashes to indicate that the set quantity has been saved in the machine's memory.
Setting the coffee quantity
To change the set coffee quantity:
- Place one or two cups under the filter holder outlet.
- Press the button [single cup button] for one or [double cup button] for two cups, and hold it.
- The machine will start dispensing coffee.
- Release the button when the desired coffee quantity has been reached.
- The indicator light [coffee button] flashes to indicate that the set quantity has been saved in the machine's memory.
Setting the water hardness
- Open the programming menu.
- Press the button [coffee button] to select the water hardness. The indicator lights for the current setting will turn on:

- [Hard water symbol] | Hard
- The indicator lights will flash in sequence.
- Press the button [coffee button] for the desired water hardness: soft [soft water symbol], medium [medium water symbol], or hard [hard water symbol].
- The button [coffee button] flashes to indicate that the setting has been saved in memory.
Setting the time for automatic shut-off
For energy-saving reasons, the coffee machine is equipped with an automatic shut-off function if it is not used for a certain period. The appliance turns on again by pressing any button on the control panel.
To set the automatic shut-off time:
- Open the programming menu.
- Press the button [coffee button] to select the time for automatic shut-off. The indicator lights for the current setting will turn on:

- [9 min symbol] | 9 minutes
- [30 min symbol] | 30 minutes
- [3 hr symbol] | 3 hours
- The indicator lights will flash in sequence.
- Press the button [coffee button] for the desired time; select between 9 minutes [9 min symbol], 30 minutes [30 min symbol], or 3 hours [3 hr symbol].
- The button [coffee button] flashes to indicate that the setting has been saved in memory.
3.7 Cooling the Boiler
The boiler must be cooled if you wish to prepare coffee immediately after frothing milk for a cappuccino. If the boiler does not cool down, the coffee will burn.
- Place a container under the cappuccinator, and open the steam lever to dispense hot water.
- The hot water will stop running out as soon as the boiler has cooled down.
- Close the steam lever and proceed with preparing the coffee.
Resetting to Factory Settings
To reset to factory settings:
- Open the programming menu.
- Turn the steam lever back to the [neutral symbol] position.
- Press the button [coffee button]. The three indicator lights will flash to indicate that the factory settings have been reset.
- Turn the steam lever back to the [neutral symbol] position.
4 Cleaning and Maintenance
4.1 Warnings
Improper Use

- Disconnect the plug from the socket before cleaning the coffee machine.
- Never immerse the coffee machine in water or other liquids.
- Let the coffee machine cool down before cleaning it.
Improper Use
[Warning Symbol] Risk of surface damage
- Do not use steam jets to clean the coffee machine.
- Do not use products containing chlorine, ammonia, or bleach to clean parts that have a surface treatment (e.g., anodizing, nickel plating, and chrome plating).
- Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or sharp objects (e.g., powder products, stain removers, or metal sponges).
- Do not use rough or abrasive materials or sharp metal scrapers.
4.2 Cleaning the Machine Housing
To ensure the exterior surfaces are well-maintained, clean them after each use. Wait for the surfaces to cool down. Use a soft, damp cloth.
4.3 Cleaning the Coffee Machine Parts
Cleaning the drip tray
The drip tray is equipped with a red indicator for a full drip tray (1), which protrudes from the cup tray as soon as the maximum level is exceeded.
- Remove the cup tray (2) and then the drip tray (3), and empty it.
- Clean the tray with a cloth and put it back together with the cup tray.
Cleaning the coffee filters
Regularly rinse the coffee filters under running water. If the holes are clogged, clean them with a needle or a brush.
Cleaning the cappuccinator
Clean the cappuccinator immediately after use.
- Turn the steam lever to release a little steam and rinse away milk residues from the pipe.
- Turn off the coffee machine by pressing the ON/OFF switch.
- Hold the cappuccinator pipe (1) with one hand and turn the cappuccinator (2) counterclockwise with the other hand and pull it downwards.
- Remove the rubber nozzle (3) from the cappuccinator pipe by pulling it downwards.
- Carefully wash the cappuccinator and nozzle with lukewarm water.
- Check that the hole (4) is not clogged.
- Insert the nozzle (3) into the cappuccinator pipe (1), and insert the cappuccinator (2) by pushing it in and turning it counterclockwise.
- Insert the cappuccinator into its seat, following the cleaning instructions in reverse order.
Cleaning the coffee maker's sieve
The coffee maker's sieve should be rinsed every 200 cups of coffee prepared. Let approximately 500 ml of water run out by pressing the coffee button without coffee powder or pods in the filter.
Cleaning the water tank
Clean the water tank with a damp cloth and mild soap about once a month.
4.4 Descaling
The coffee machine must be descaled when the orange indicator light in the button [steam button] turns on.
- Fill the water tank with a solution of water and descaling agent in the doses recommended by the manufacturer.
- Press the ON/OFF switch.
- Remove the filter holder and place a container under the cappuccinator.
- Wait until the indicator lights [coffee button] or [steam button] are steady.
- Press and hold the button [coffee button] for 10 seconds until the three buttons start flashing in sequence.
- Turn the steam lever back to the [neutral symbol] position.
- Press the button [coffee button] to start descaling.
- The descaling cycle automatically performs a series of rinses at intervals to remove limescale deposits inside the coffee machine until the tank is empty.
- The descaling cycle stops, and the orange indicator light flashes.
- Remove the water tank, empty and rinse it.
- Fill the tank with water up to the maximum level and put it back in the machine.
- Place an empty container under the cappuccinator and check that the steam lever is in the [neutral symbol] position.
- Press the steam button again to start the rinsing cycle.
- When the water tank is empty, it means the rinsing is complete, and the orange indicator light turns off.
- Turn the steam lever to the [neutral symbol] position.
[Warning Symbol] Danger of injury!
- The descaling agent contains acids that can irritate skin and eyes.
- Carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions and observe the safety instructions on the packaging in case of contact with skin or eyes.
- Use only descaling agents recommended by Smeg to avoid damage to the coffee machine.
Descaling and rinsing the coffee maker's sieve
During the descaling cycle, the steam lever must be closed from time to time to allow the descaling solution to run out of the coffee maker's sieve.
During the rinsing cycle, the steam lever must be closed from time to time to rinse the coffee maker's sieve.
