Getting Started
Attaching the Strap
Attach the strap to the left and right eyelets on the camera.
Attaching/Removing the Lens Cap and Lens Hood
- Attach the lens cap when not shooting to protect the lens.
- The lens hood reduces light that adversely affects images and protects the camera. Do not use the lens hood when shooting with flash or when AF-assist illuminator is needed. Turn off the camera before attaching/removing the lens hood.
Inserting the Battery and Memory Card
- Open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover.
- Insert the battery, ensuring correct terminal orientation and engaging the orange battery latch. Slide the memory card in until it clicks. Be careful not to insert them incorrectly.
- Close the cover.
Charging the Battery
Charge the supplied EN-EL20a Rechargeable Li-ion Battery before use. Insert the battery into the camera. Connect the camera to an optional EH-8P AC Adapter using a separately sold UC-E25 USB Cable (Type C connectors) to charge the battery. The power-on lamp (charge lamp) flashes during charging and turns off when complete. A full charge takes approximately 3 hours. The camera can be operated while charging, but charging time will increase.
Alternative charging methods include using the EH-73P Charging AC Adapter, third-party AC adapters compliant with USB PD (Power Delivery) supporting 15W or more, or connecting to a computer via the supplied USB cable.
Opening the Monitor
Move the monitor slowly and without excessive force within its adjustable range to avoid damaging the connection.

Caring for the Product
Storage
Remove the battery if the camera will be unused for an extended period. To prevent mold, turn the camera on and release the shutter monthly. Avoid storing the camera in humid, extremely hot or cold locations, or near strong electromagnetic fields.
The Camera
- Avoid strong impacts or vibrations.
- Keep the camera dry; do not immerse it in water.
- Do not disassemble the camera.
- Avoid sudden temperature changes; use a sealed bag to acclimate the camera.
- Keep away from strong magnetic fields.
- Do not point the lens at the sun or other bright light sources, as this can cause damage. Attach the lens cap when not in use.
- Do not direct lasers or other bright light sources toward the lens.
- Turn off the camera before removing the battery or memory card.
- Monitor pixels may be always lit or always off; this is not a malfunction. Avoid applying pressure to the monitor. If the monitor breaks, be careful of broken glass and liquid crystal.
The Battery
- Note that the battery may become hot after use.
- Do not use the battery outside the temperature range of 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F).
- Discontinue use and consult a service representative if the battery shows abnormalities.
- Insulate battery terminals with tape after removal.
- Charge the battery indoors within a temperature range of 5°C to 35°C (41°F to 95°F).
- Do not continue charging a fully charged battery.
- Carry spare batteries for important occasions.
- On cold days, battery capacity decreases; keep spare batteries warm.
- Clean battery terminals with a dry cloth if dirty.
- Charge exhausted batteries before use.
- Remove the battery when not in use. Store batteries at about 50% charge in a cool, dry place (15°C to 25°C / 59°F to 77°F).
- Replace the battery if its charge retention significantly decreases.
- Recycle used batteries according to local regulations, insulating terminals first.
Memory Cards
- Use only Secure Digital (SD) memory cards.
- Follow the memory card manufacturer's precautions.
- The write-protect switch prevents shooting, deleting, or formatting.
- Do not put labels or stickers on memory cards.
- Format memory cards with the camera before first use or if used in another device. Formatting erases all data.
- Do not open the memory card slot cover, turn off the camera, or disconnect power during formatting or data transfer.
Troubleshooting
Refer to the Reference Guide's troubleshooting section for common problems and solutions. If issues persist, turn the camera off, remove and reinsert the battery, then turn it back on. If the camera continues to write data, wait a minute before removing the battery.
