Nikon COOLPIX P1100 User's Manual
This document provides essential information for using your Nikon COOLPIX P1100 digital camera.
Introduction
Welcome to the Nikon COOLPIX P1100. This User's Manual covers basic operations. For detailed information, please refer to the online Reference Guide available at: https://onlinemanual.nikonimglib.com/p1100/en/.
Please read this document and the safety instructions thoroughly before using the camera.
Getting Started
Camera Setup
When the camera is turned on for the first time, you will be prompted to set the display language and camera clock.
- Press the power switch to turn on the camera.
- Use the multi selector to highlight a language and press the [OK] button to select.
- Select [Yes] and press the [OK] button to proceed with setup.
- Highlight your home time zone and press the [OK] button. You can enable or disable daylight saving time by pressing the [DISP] button.
- Press the [OK] button to select a date format.
- Set the date and time: Press the multi selector to highlight items and use ▲▼ to change them. Select the minute field and press [OK] to confirm.
- When prompted, press ▲▼ to highlight [Yes] and press the [OK] button. Setup is complete.
Inserting the Battery and Memory Card
- Open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover.
- Insert the EN-EL20a Rechargeable Li-ion Battery, ensuring correct orientation of terminals and using the orange battery latch.
- Slide the memory card in until it clicks into place.
- Close the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover.
Note: Be careful not to insert the battery or memory card upside-down or backward, as this could cause a malfunction.
Attaching the Strap
Attach the supplied AN-DC3 Strap to the left and right side eyelets of the camera.
Attaching/Removing the Lens Cap and Lens Hood
Attach the lens cap when not shooting to protect the lens. The HB-CP1 Lens Hood helps cut out adverse light and protects the camera. Turn off the camera before attaching or removing the lens hood. Do not use the lens hood when shooting with flash or when AF-assist illuminator is needed.
Opening the Monitor
Move the monitor slowly within its adjustable range. Do not apply excessive force to avoid damaging the connection.
Charging the Battery
Charge the supplied EN-EL20a Rechargeable Li-ion Battery before use.
Using Supplied Accessories:
- Insert the EN-EL20a battery into the camera.
- Connect the separately sold UC-E25 USB Cable (Type C connectors) to the camera and the optional EH-8P AC Adapter.
- Plug the AC adapter into a household power outlet.
The power-on lamp (charge lamp) flashes during charging and turns off when complete. An exhausted battery typically charges in about 3 hours. The camera can be operated while charging, but charging time will increase.
Alternative Charging Methods:
- Use the EH-73P Charging AC Adapter (available separately) with the supplied USB cable.
- Use third-party AC adapters compliant with USB PD (Power Delivery) standards and equipped with USB Type C connectors (output of 15W or more), using a Type C to Type C USB cable.
Notes on Charging: Charging may fail if ambient temperature is unsuitable, connections are poor, or the battery is damaged. The power-on lamp may flash quickly in these cases.
Basic Operations
Shooting Still Images
The [A] (Auto) mode is suitable for general shooting.
- Rotate the mode dial to [A].
- Check the battery level and number of exposures remaining on the shooting screen.
- Hold the camera steady. Keep fingers away from the lens, flash, AF-assist illuminator, eye sensor, microphone, and speaker.
- Frame the picture. Use the zoom control or side zoom control to adjust the lens position: move towards [T] to zoom in, towards [W] to zoom out.
- Press the shutter-release button halfway to focus and set exposure.
- Without lifting your finger, press the shutter-release button all the way down to take the picture.
Recording Movies
Display the shooting screen and press the [●] (movie-record) button to start recording. Press the [●] button again to end recording.
Playing Back Images
- Press the [playback] button to enter full-frame playback mode.
- Use the multi selector (▲▼◄►) to select an image. Press and hold to scroll quickly.
- To play back a recorded movie, press the [playback] button.
- Press the [playback] button or shutter-release button to return to shooting mode.
Caring for the Product
Storage: Remove the battery if the camera will not be used for an extended period. To prevent mold, take the camera out at least once a month, turn it on, and release the shutter a few times. Avoid poorly ventilated areas, high humidity (>60%), extreme temperatures (above 50°C or below -10°C), and strong electromagnetic fields.
Camera Care:
- Avoid strong impact or vibration.
- Keep the camera dry.
- Do not disassemble the camera.
- Avoid sudden changes in temperature; use a carrying case or plastic bag to prevent condensation.
- Keep away from strong magnetic fields.
- Do not point the lens at the sun or other strong light sources, as this can cause fire or damage internal parts and the image sensor. Attach the lens cap when not in use.
Battery Care:
- Use only approved rechargeable batteries (EN-EL20a).
- Handle batteries with care: do not expose to heat/flame, disassemble, short-circuit, drop, or puncture.
- Charge batteries indoors between 5°C and 35°C (41°F to 95°F).
- Do not charge if the battery is too hot or too cold.
- Do not continue charging a fully charged battery.
- Battery temperature may increase during charging; this is normal.
- Carry spare charged batteries for important occasions.
- On cold days, battery capacity decreases; keep spare batteries warm.
- Clean battery terminals with a dry cloth if dirty.
- Charge exhausted batteries before use.
- Remove the battery when the camera is not in use to prevent drain.
- For long-term storage, charge batteries to about 50% and insulate terminals with tape. Store in a cool, dry place (15°C to 25°C).
- Replace the battery if its charge retention significantly decreases.
- Recycle used batteries according to local regulations.
Memory Card Care:
- Use only Secure Digital (SD, SDHC, SDXC) memory cards.
- Follow memory card manufacturer precautions.
- Ensure the write-protect switch is not locked if you want to shoot, delete, or format.
- Do not put labels or stickers on memory cards.
- Format new memory cards in the camera before first use.
- Formatting permanently deletes all data; back up important images first.
- Do not open the battery/memory card slot cover, turn off the camera, or disconnect power during formatting, writing, or deleting data.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues, try these steps before contacting support:
- Refer to the troubleshooting section of the Reference Guide for common problems and solutions.
- Turn the camera off, remove the battery, wait about a minute, re-insert the battery, and turn the camera on again.

- Search Nikon websites for support information and FAQs. Download the latest firmware from https://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/.
- If problems persist, consult a Nikon-authorized service representative.
