Introduction
This guide provides essential information for setting up and using your FortiFone FON-780B IP phone. It covers installation, configuration, basic operations, and troubleshooting.

Installation
Attaching the Stand
To attach the stand:
- Align the posts of the stand base with the corresponding holes on the back of the phone.
- Push the stand firmly into place until it is secure.
The phone's screen angle can be adjusted by gently pulling it forward or pushing it back to your desired position.
Connecting the Phone
The phone features several ports on its rear panel:
- Power DC 12V/1.5A: For connecting the power adapter.
- WAN/PoE port: Connects to your network via an Ethernet cable. Supports Power over Ethernet (PoE).
- PC port: Allows connection of a desktop PC using an Ethernet cable (cable not supplied).
- Headset port: For connecting an optional headset.
- Handset port: For connecting the included handset cord.
Connection steps:
- Connect the handset cord to the handset jack on the phone.
- Optionally, connect an amplified headset to the headset jack [headset-icon].
- Connect the WAN port [ethernet-icon] to your network using the provided Ethernet cable.
- Optionally, connect your desktop PC to the PC port [pc-icon] using an Ethernet cable (not supplied).
- If your network supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), a power adapter is not required. If PoE is not supported, connect the DC 12V 1.5A power adapter to the power jack [power-dc-icon].
Setting Up the Phone
The phone can be configured for three types of extensions:
For use as an internal extension
If the phone and FortiVoice phone system are on the same network, the phone supports plug-and-play installation. It automatically downloads its configuration from the FortiVoice system and displays the extension number and name upon registration.
For use as an external extension
If the phone and FortiVoice phone system are on different networks, manual configuration is required. Follow these steps:
- On the phone, press the
Menu
button [menu-icon]. - Select
Setting > Provisioning
. - Enter the password

FortiVoice Server
field, enter the public IP address or FQDN of the FortiVoice unit and pressOK
. - In the
Server Port
field, enter the port for the FortiVoice Server (default is 443) and pressOK
.
For use as a cloud extension
To use the phone with the FortiVoice Cloud service:
- On the phone, press the
Menu
button [menu-icon]. - Select
Cloud
. - Enter the
Cloud ID
. - Enter the
Extension No.
. - Enter the
Cloud PIN
and pressOK
.
Using the Phone
The FortiFone FON-780B features a touch screen, navigation keys, and a dialpad.
Phone Layout
- Camera: Located at the top of the screen.
- Privacy cover: Slides left to block the camera; slides right to expose it for use.
- Touch screen: For interacting with the phone's interface.
- Navigation keys: Used to navigate menus and lists.
- Home/Menu button: Accesses the main menu or returns to the idle screen.
- Contact button: Accesses directory, business, and personal contacts.
- Voicemail button: Accesses voicemail messages and greetings.
- Volume control: Adjusts volume for handset, headset, or speaker.
- Dialpad: Standard numeric keypad for dialing.
- Back button: Returns to the previous screen.
- Headset button: Toggles headset audio on/off.
- Mute button: Toggles microphone on/off.
- Redial button: Calls the last dialed number.
- Speaker button: Toggles speakerphone on/off.

Troubleshooting
