Indicator Light Status
- Blue light blinks every 0.5 second - Easy Mode connection
- Blue light blinks every 2 seconds - AP Mode connection

NOTE: Hold ON/OFF button for 5 seconds while it is plugged in to restore the factory setting if you want to erase the plug's current settings.

Install the "HBN Smart" App
- Search for HBN Smart App on App store/Google Play Store, or scan the QR code below to download. (For iPhone, use the built-in camera. For Android, a barcode scanner may be needed. Please confirm the App icon before downloading.)
- Register an account and memorize the password. Enter your email address or phone number, then obtain a verification code to complete the registry.
PS: You can also add this smart plug to bn-link smart app directly if you already have it on your phone; it is compatible and works the same way.
Connect with Your Cellphone
Requirements: 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
Please note:
- If you only have a 5GHz Wi-Fi router, you will not be able to complete the connection.
- If you are using a dual Wi-Fi router that broadcasts two Wi-Fi signals, make sure your phone is connected to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal (the one not labeled "_5G").
- If you are using a dual-band Wi-Fi router that broadcasts only one Wi-Fi signal, you will need to manage your Wi-Fi router settings to enable a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal.
Connection Methods
A: Connection via Bluetooth
Indicator light blinks rapidly (twice a second)
- Confirm Bluetooth is activated on your smartphone. If using Android, location permission must be allowed.
- Confirm the smart plug is plugged into a live outlet.
- Open the HBN Smart app. A dialogue box will pop up indicating the device has been discovered. Tap "Go to add".
- Select the device you wish to add.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connection.
- You can rename the device after it is successfully added.
B: Easy Mode Connection
Indicator Light Blink Rapidly (Twice a second)
- Confirm the smart plug is plugged into a live outlet.
- Open the HBN Smart app.
- Choose the "+" symbol.
- Select "Socket(wifi)".
- Confirm the light status on your plug and follow the App guide. (If the blue light is not blinking quickly, press the On/Off button to reset.)
- Set a unique name for this smart plug and choose the room location.
C: AP Mode (Indicator light blinks once every 2 seconds)
If the Easy Mode connection failed, remove and reinstall the smart plug. When the indicator blinks quickly, it is in Easy Mode. Hold the power button for about 7 seconds to enter AP Mode. Once the indicator light blinks slowly (every 2 seconds), you can try AP Mode connection.
- Go back to the "Add Device" "+" interface. Select "Socket (Wifi)". Then choose "Other Mode" in the top right corner and select AP Mode.
- Make sure the indicator light is flashing slowly and confirm it in the App.
- Choose your 2.4G Wi-Fi and enter the password, then confirm in the App.
- Tap "Connect now" and choose the Wi-Fi hotspot named "HBN Smart-xxx", then go back to the HBN Smart application.
- Wait until successful configuration and tap "Completed".
Getting to Know HBN Smart App
The app allows you to:
- Switch: Turn the plug on/off.
- Left time: Set a timer for the plug.
- Schedule: Create schedules for the plug to turn on/off automatically.
Create Automations/Groups
You can create scenes and groups in the HBN Smart App to control different smart devices in different rooms simultaneously.
Device Sharing
To allow others to control your smart plug:
- Go to the HBN Smart app.
- Choose the device you want to share.
- Choose the "Edit" button.
- Choose "Shared devices".
- Add sharing: Enter the other user's HBN Smart account.
- Search and complete the sharing process.
How To Connect with Amazon Alexa
Requirements:
- Amazon Alexa Device and Alexa App
- The Smart Plug connected with HBN Smart App
- HBN Smart App user ID and password.
Steps:
- Open the Alexa app and choose "Skills & Games".
- Search for "HBN Smart".
- Tap "ENABLE TO USE".
- Enter your HBN Smart account credentials and authorize the connection.
- Add "HBN Smart" as a "Skill" for Alexa. The devices added on HBN Smart will sync to the Alexa App. You can also ask Alexa to discover new devices.
Voice Control:
- Ensure the device names are the same in both the Alexa app and the HBN Smart app for voice control to work.
- Tips for using Alexa Voice Control: Make sure the device name you set for the smart plug is unique and recognizable for Alexa. Ensure all smart device names in your home are non-repetitive and recognizable.
How To Connect with Google Home
After successfully connecting the smart plug with the HBN Smart app:
- Open the Google Home app and find "Set up device".
- Click "Works with Google".
- Search for "HBN Smart".
- Enter your HBN Smart account credentials and authorize the connection.
- The smart plug will appear as "Linked to you" on the Google Home app. You will need to set the device name and assign it to a home or room.
- Click the device that is "Linked to you" or open "Works with Google" again to manage your linked devices and follow the setup steps.
Note: Using a different app from HBN Smart may result in interface differences, but the plug's functionality should remain the same.
Troubleshooting
Q: Why did my phone connection fail?
A:
- Try both Easy Mode and AP Mode, carefully following the guides on pages 5-11.
- Confirm your home Wi-Fi is 2.4GHz and that you entered the correct password.
- Remove and reinstall the smart plug to start again.
- Contact customer support if problems persist.
Q: Why can't I voice control the plug with my Alexa/Google?
A:
- Ensure the smart plug is connected successfully on the HBN Smart app and is working correctly.
- Verify that the same account is linked as a skill on Alexa/Google App.
- Check if your Alexa/Google device is functioning properly.
- Ensure device names are non-repetitive and recognizable for voice assistants.
Q: Do I need to set up the device again if I changed my router?
A: Yes, if you change the Wi-Fi name, router/modem, you must set up the smart plug again. Changing the router's placement within the same house does not require re-setup.
Q: Why does it turn on/off or come offline surprisingly?
A: Ensure your Wi-Fi connection is stable. Check for any set timers/schedules. If issues persist, reset the plug and reinstall it. Email support@bn-link.com for further assistance.
