Operating Instructions
CAUTION
The filter control valve has a closed position. The pump should never be on when the valve is in the closed position. If the pump is operated with the valve closed, explosive situation could exist.
Initial Startup and Operation:
Before operating, ensure all hoses are connected and tightened, correct amount of filter sand is loaded, and the system is connected to a grounding type receptacle protected by a GFCI/RCD.
- Turn both plunger valve handles fully counter-clockwise to open valves and allow water to flow into the sand filter pump. Water pressure will allow trapped air to escape from the air release valves (19). When water flows out, gently finger tighten the valves (19) clockwise.
IMPORTANT: To prevent air lock, open the lower plunger valve (connected inlet hose) first, then the upper plunger valve (connected outlet hose). Open air release valves, wait until water flows out, then close them.
- Ensure the drain/waste outlet on the 6-way valve is not covered and directed to a proper draining receptacle.
- BACKWASH: Ensure pump is off, depress the 6-way valve and turn it to the “BACKWASH" position. Always depress the valve handle before turning. Always switch off pump before changing the 6-way valve position. Press the ON/OFF button to switch on the system, and then press the TIMER button to set operating hours. Water circulates backward through sand media to waste/drain outlet. Backwash until clear water is observed.
NOTE: If LED display flashes "00", device is in stand-by mode. Initial backwash is recommended to remove impurities or fine sand particles.
- Switch off pump, change 6-way valve to “RINSE” position.
- Switch on pump and run for about one minute to level out sand bed after backwashing.
- Switch off pump, change 6-way valve to “FILTER” position.
- Switch on pump. System operates in normal filtering mode. Run pump until desired pool water clearance is obtained (no more than 12 hours per day). For initial startup, set to longer TIMER operating hours or "FP" for continuous operation.
- Record initial pressure gauge reading when filter media is clean.
NOTE: During initial setup, frequent backwash may be necessary due to heavy dirt. As filter removes dirt, pressure will rise and flow diminish. If pressure gauge reading is in the yellow zone, backwash the sand media. If a vacuuming device is attached, remove it and check if pressure drops to green zone.
- Monitor pressure gauge reading and check inlet/outlet openings weekly. If pressure gauge indicates yellow, backwash filter media.
Operating the System under "TIMER" Mode or Manually:
To operate in "TIMER" mode:
- Activate unit: Press ON/OFF button. Flashing "00" appears on LED display.
- Set operating hours: With "00" flashing, press TIMER button to set desired operating hours (1 to 12 hours max per cycle). Pressing TIMER increases time. Built-in timer activates pump daily at same time for set hours.
