XZENT X-F280 Software Update Instruction

From v1.6 or higher to v3.3 incl. DAB firmware

Change Notes for SW v3.3 and DAB Firmware Version (V10-000A0A-01-0121-011B)

Note: The version information can be found under SETTINGS > Others. The DAB firmware version can be found in the DAB source > Settings.

The DAB FW V10 has been issued already with v2.4. Updating from v2.4 or v2.5 does not require re-updating DAB FW V10.

Navigation Enhancements:

TPEG events and traffic flow data are updated cyclically every 2 to 3 minutes (provided all preconditions are met).
iGO version 9.35.2.268605. Traffic settings > DAB+TEG must be switched on.
DAB requires V10 firmware.
GPS reception as well as DAB reception of a FREE-TPEG channel of the matching country according to GPS.

General Improvements:

Correction for FM TA switching in case FM is the main source (source switching from other media sources was already solved from v2.5).

Remark:

v3.3 requires at least v1.6 to be installed. Please check your current SW version before proceeding with the update. If an older SW than v1.6 is installed, you must FIRST update to v1.6.

Step 1: Download of SW and Preparation of a USB Flash Drive

1.1 Download the Update File

Download the self-extracting archive update file (.exe) from the XZENT website. Copy the self-extracting file to a USB flash drive (≤ 8 GB, FAT32 format). See Picture 1.

1.2 Extract the Files

Double-click the EXE file and extract directly to the root directory of the USB flash drive. See Picture 2.

1.3 Verify Extracted Content

After extraction is complete, you will find two files: GEMINI_PACK.BIN, sppf_mcu32.img, and a folder named D2A-FW. See Picture 3.

Important Attention Points:

In some rare cases, the USB flash drive may not be detected by the XZENT device. If a step fails, re-check and try a different brand/manufacturer USB flash drive or change the memory size (e.g., <1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB).
Do NOT download and execute (extract) directly to your PC.
Do not copy the multiple extracted files to your USB flash drive. Copy only the single archive file to the USB flash drive and extract it there.

Step 2: APP and MCU Update

The duration of the APP/MCU update is approximately 5 minutes (excluding preparation time).

To start the v3.3 update, connect the USB flash drive to USB-1. Navigate to Setup > Others > Install Software.

If this function is not visible, your device may not have v1.6 or higher installed. You need to install at least v1.6 before proceeding.
If the OK-Button cannot be confirmed, the USB flash drive might be connected to the wrong USB port, or the files are not placed in the root directory as shown in Step 1. Please check the port and the USB flash drive.

Update Sequence Overview:

After confirming the installation, the device will auto-restart and follow the sequence A to G. Ensure the process is correct and no steps are skipped. Skipped steps may indicate issues with the files or USB drive; review and repeat Step 1 with a different USB drive (different brand or size, FAT32 format).

Update Flow Description:

(A) Bootscreen: The initial XZENT logo is displayed.
(B) APP Update: The screen may flash briefly. Text appears: "Updating...". Multilingual warnings are displayed: "EN: do NOT power off!", "DE: NICHT ausschalten!", "FR: NE PAS éteindre!", "IT: NON spegnere".
(C) Update Successful!: This text appears when APP installation reaches 100%.
(D) Boot Logo: The boot logo is displayed briefly as the device continues the start-up process.
(E) Main Menu: The main menu is shown for 3 to 4 seconds. It displays the date and time, with navigation icons for Navigation, Radio, USB, and Bluetooth.
(F) MCU Update: The MCU update process begins, indicated by text like "updating MCU software...".
(G) MCU Complete: The update is finished. A message appears: "MCU complete". You will see an OK-button. Please remove the USB flash drive before pressing OK to prevent the update from restarting. A multilingual confirmation message is shown: "EN: Done! Please remove the USB/SD with update files and confirm with OK." (with German, French, and Italian translations).

Warning: If the USB stick is not removed at this stage, the update may restart.

Language Setting Note:

The system's default language changed to GERMAN starting from v1.6. To change the language, long-press the ALT sensor front button. The system language can be adjusted in the "General" settings.

Compare APP and MCU Versions

Verify that your device's APP and MCU versions match the following:

Version: X-F280 v3.3
APP: 20220307_1107
OS: 24.0.2.2.2.0.1.0
MCU: SP_53_20210727_01

Step 3: DAB Firmware Update

After completing the APP and MCU update, you can remove GEMINI_PACK.BIN and sppf_mcu32.img from the USB flash drive to prevent the update process from restarting.

Proceed with the DAB-FW update.

3.1 Connect USB Drive

While the device is powered on, connect the USB flash drive to USB-1.

3.2 Start DAB FW Update

Select the DAB source to initiate the DAB FW update. A pop-up message "Update Firmware" should appear for approximately 3 seconds after entering the source, provided the USB flash drive with correct files is detected on USB-1.

3.3 Monitor and Verify DAB FW Update

As soon as the progress bar indicates the update is in progress, you can safely remove the USB flash drive to avoid accidental re-updating after the progress bar reaches 100%.

After successful DAB firmware installation, verify that the DAB FW has been correctly installed. It should display: < V10-000A0A-01-0121-011B > (found under DAB source > Settings).

If you see "b V10-000A0A-01-0121-011B" or an error message during the update, please repeat the DAB-FW update. You may need to re-download, extract, and replace the “D2A-FW” folder. You can delete the APP/MCU files (GEMINI_PACK.BIN and sppf_mcu32.img) if you only need to perform the DAB firmware update again.

Step 4: Loading Factory Settings

Load factory settings by navigating to Setup > Others > Load Factory > OK.

Your device is now ready for regular use.
