Connection Components
The timer connects between the hose faucet and the garden hose. Key components involved in the connection include:
- Hose Faucet (the water source)
- Hose Washer (ensures a watertight seal)
- Brass or Plastic Swivel Connector (part of the timer assembly for hose attachment)
- Automatic Hose Faucet Valve (the internal mechanism of the timer)
Battery Installation
Follow these steps to install batteries:
- Remove the timer cover.
- Pull the battery compartment out of the timer.
- Remove the battery cover.
- Install three AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct orientation as indicated within the battery compartment.
- Place the battery compartment back into the timer.
Note: Fresh AA alkaline batteries typically last an entire watering season. If the valve fails to open or the timer signals low battery, replace the batteries.
Setting the Watering Interval (Dial A)
Use the Interval Dial (A) to select how often you want the timer to water.
Interval Options:
- Once: Waters only one time.
- 2 hr: Waters every two hours.
- 4 hr: Waters every four hours.
- 8 hr: Waters every eight hours.
- 12 hr: Waters every twelve hours.
- Daily: Waters once every day.
- 2nd day: Waters every other day.
- 3rd day: Waters every third day.
- 4th day: Waters every fourth day.
- 7th day: Waters once a week.
Important Note: The time of day you set the interval becomes the reference time. The watering cycle begins after the dial has been stationary for one second. Rotating the dial resets the interval. Watering will not commence until after the first full interval has passed.
Setting the Watering Duration (Dial B)
Use the Duration Dial (B) to select how long the water should run.
Duration Options:
- OFF: The valve will remain closed and will not water.
- ON: The valve will open and remain open until manually changed.
- 5 min, 10 min, 15 min, 20 min, 30 min, 60 min, 90 min, 120 min: The water will run for the selected duration before automatically shutting off.
To adjust the watering duration while the valve is open, simply rotate the dial to the new duration setting. The valve will then remain open for the newly selected time.
Watering Modes
Watering Once
Set the Interval Dial (A) to "Once" and the Duration Dial (B) to your desired watering time. The valve will open for the set duration and then close. The timer will remain inactive until Dial A is reset or manual watering is initiated.
Manual Watering
Turn the Duration Dial (B) to the "ON" setting. The valve will open and stay open until the dial is moved to another setting or a specific duration. This function allows immediate watering without affecting the programmed watering interval.
To Turn the Valve Off
Rotate the Duration Dial (B) to the "OFF" setting. The valve will not open in this position, but the programmed watering interval will continue.
Interval Reminder and Low Battery Indication
Interval Reminder
The timer includes a reminder slider to help you track when your programmed watering interval is set to occur. This is a visual aid and does not affect programming.
Low Battery Indication
When battery voltage drops below the optimal operating level, the valve will not open. Replace the batteries with three fresh alkaline AA batteries as soon as possible.
Maintenance and Off-Season Storage
- Remove the timer from the faucet during winter or extended periods of non-use.
- Open and close the valve manually several times to ensure all water drains out.
- Remove batteries and clean battery contacts. Discard batteries if any signs of corrosion are visible.
- Store the timer in a warm, dry location.
Troubleshooting Checklist
Before seeking service, check the following:
- Are the batteries installed correctly?
- Are new alkaline batteries installed?
- Is the hose faucet turned on?
- Try operating the timer manually by rotating the Duration Dial (B) to the "ON" setting.
