Getting started
This section details the components and controls of your Dyson Supersonic Nural™ hair dryer.
Main Unit Components
The hair dryer features several key components:
- Scalp protect mode on/off: Scalp care is activated by default on first use.
- Capsule: Houses the Time of Flight sensor, Hall sensor, and Capsule illumination.
- Airflow control: Offers 3 precise settings: Fast/High, Gentle/Medium, Mild/Low.
- Power on/off: Controlled by a sliding switch. ➡️ [power-switch]
- Cold shot: Press and hold to deactivate heat and set your style. ❄️ [cold-shot]
- Air inlet: Located at the base of the handle, this draws air into the device.
- LEDs: Indicate the current settings. ? [led-indicators]
- Temperature control: Offers 4 precise heat settings. ?️ [temperature-control]
- Removable filter cage: Located at the base of the handle, it is easy to remove for cleaning.
Nural™ sensors
A network of Nural™ sensors enhances and optimizes your hair care routine.
Scalp protect mode
A Time of Flight sensor measures the distance between the dryer and your hair. It automatically reduces heat as the dryer moves closer, maintaining a comfortable, consistent scalp temperature. ?️ [heat-reduction-indicator]
Pause detect
A motion-sensing accelerometer detects when the dryer is put down. It automatically deactivates the heater, decreases airflow, and reduces noise. The Capsule illumination will pulse blue. ? [pause-indicator]
Tip: To confirm Pause detect has activated, wait for the motor sound to ramp down before lifting your hand off the hair dryer. The Capsule illumination will pulse blue.
Attachment learning
A Hall sensor recognizes which styling attachment is connected, automatically switching to its last-used settings. ⚙️ [attachment-recognition]
Capsule illumination
The suspended capsule changes color to indicate the current heat setting. Heat and color will auto-adapt in Scalp protect mode.
- High heat: ? Red
- Medium heat: ? Orange
- Low heat: ? Yellow
- No heat: ⚪ White/Off
Note: Offering and small details may vary to those shown.
Styling attachments
Attachment learning recognizes your intelligent attachments and learns your preferred styling settings for each. All attachments are magnetic for easy rotation and fitting. Heat Shield technology keeps the surface of your styling attachments cool. Remove attachments using the cool edges.

Diagnostics
The LEDs will flash continuously to alert you when your machine needs attention.
- Filter cleaning alert: If LEDs flash, clean the filter. Follow the instructions or watch the video at Dyson Support.
- System error: If all three red lights continue to flash, contact the Dyson Helpline. Do not turn the machine back on.
Regular filter cleaning
Check your filter is clear of debris and hair product residue every month, or when the LED lights alert you.
Maintaining performance
Unplug your machine from the mains electricity supply and allow it to cool down before cleaning your filter. The Dyson Supersonic Nural™ hair dryer has highly tuned technology to give outstanding performance. This technology needs to be kept free from debris and hair product residue. Regular maintenance is required to maintain performance.
Cleaning steps
- Step 1: Hold the handle of your machine firmly and gently rotate the filter cage anti-clockwise. ? [rotate-filter-cage]
- Step 2: Pull down and away from the machine. Use a lint-free cloth or soft brush to remove any dust or debris from both the filter cage and the filter mesh. ? [cleaning-tool]
- Step 3: Do not use water to clean the filter mesh and avoid applying too much pressure. ? [no-water]
- Step 4: Rotate the filter cage back into position until correctly aligned. Rotate clockwise to lock before use. ? [lock-filter-cage]
