Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Maintenance
Regular maintenance is important for optimal performance and to reduce wear. Inspect and properly tighten all parts each time the exercise bike is used. Replace any worn parts immediately. Use only manufacturer-supplied parts.
To clean the exercise bike, use a damp cloth and a small amount of mild detergent. IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to the console, keep liquids away from the console and keep the console out of direct sunlight.
Pedal Maintenance
Tighten the pedals weekly. Tighten the right pedal clockwise, and tighten the left pedal counterclockwise.
Troubleshooting
Many problems can be solved with the simple steps in this section. Find the symptom that applies, and follow the steps listed. If further assistance is needed, go to my.iFIT.com, scan the QR code, or call 1-833-680-IFIT (1-833-680-4348).
How to Troubleshoot the Console
If the console display becomes dim, replace the batteries (see assembly step 11 on page 11); most console problems are the result of low batteries.
If the exercise bike will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries from the console.
If the message CH0 or CH1 appears when pressing the increase/decrease buttons, recalibrate the resistance system. First, see assembly step 11 on page 11 and remove batteries. Then, press and hold any button for 20 seconds. Release the button and reinsert batteries; the bike will adjust to the lowest resistance level.
How to Adjust the Reed Switch
If the console does not display correct feedback, the reed switch should be adjusted.
To adjust the reed switch, first remove the two M4 x 12mm Blunt Screws (74) from the Crank Cover (37), and remove the Crank Cover.
Locate the Reed Switch (57). Slightly loosen the two indicated M4 x 12mm Blunt Screws (74). Then, turn the Left Crank Arm (19) until a Magnet (62) is aligned with the Reed Switch. Slide the Reed Switch slightly toward or away from the Magnet. Then, retighten the Blunt Screws.
Turn the Left Crank Arm (19) for a moment. Repeat the procedure if necessary until the console displays correct feedback. Then, reattach the Crank Cover (37).
How to Adjust the Drive Belt
If pedals slip while pedaling, even at the highest resistance, the drive belt may need adjustment.
To adjust the drive belt, carefully pry off the Right Hub Cover (33) and Left Hub Cover (84). Remove the two M4 x 19mm Screws (87) and the Hub Shield (85).
Loosen, but do not remove, the M10 Flange Nut (75) on each side of the bike.
Tighten the Adjustment Nut (49) on each side until the Drive Belt (46) is tight.
Firmly tighten the M10 Flange Locknuts (75).
Pedal the bike and test the adjustment. Repeat the procedure if necessary. When the drive belt is properly tightened, reattach removed parts.
Exercise Guidelines
⚠️ WARNING: Before beginning this or any exercise program, consult your physician. This is especially important for persons over age 35 or persons with pre-existing health problems.
These guidelines help you plan your exercise program. For detailed information, obtain a reputable book or consult your physician. Proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential for successful results.
Exercise Intensity
Whether your goal is to burn fat or strengthen your cardiovascular system, exercising at the proper intensity is key. Use your heart rate as a guide. The chart below shows recommended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise.
To find your intensity level, find your age at the bottom of the chart (ages rounded to the nearest ten years). The three numbers above your age define your "training zone": lowest for fat burning, middle for maximum fat burning, and highest for aerobic exercise.
Burning Fat: Exercise at a low intensity for a sustained period. After the first few minutes, your body uses stored fat calories for energy. Adjust intensity until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone. For maximum fat burning, aim for the middle number.
Aerobic Exercise: To strengthen your cardiovascular system, perform aerobic exercise (activity requiring large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods). Adjust intensity until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone.
How to Measure Your Heart Rate
Exercise for at least four minutes. Stop, place two fingers on your wrist, take a six-second heartbeat count, and multiply by 10. (Example: 14 beats x 10 = 140 bpm).
Workout Guidelines
- Warming Up: Start with 5-10 minutes of stretching and light exercise to increase body temperature, heart rate, and circulation.
- Training Zone Exercise: Exercise for 20-30 minutes with your heart rate in your training zone. (For the first few weeks, do not exceed 20 minutes). Breathe regularly; never hold your breath.
- Cooling Down: Finish with 5-10 minutes of stretching to increase flexibility and prevent post-exercise problems.
Exercise Frequency
To maintain or improve condition, complete three workouts per week with at least one rest day between. After a few months, you may increase to five workouts per week. Make exercise a regular, enjoyable part of your life.
Suggested Stretches
The correct form for several basic stretches is shown. Move slowly; never bounce.
- Toe Touch Stretch: Stand with knees bent, bend forward from hips. Relax back and shoulders. Reach toward toes. Hold for 15 counts, relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Hamstrings, back of knees, back.
- Hamstring Stretch: Sit with one leg extended. Bring the sole of the opposite foot to the inner thigh of the extended leg. Reach toward toes. Hold for 15 counts, relax. Repeat 3 times per leg. Stretches: Hamstrings, lower back, groin.
- Calf/Achilles Stretch: One leg forward, hands against a wall. Keep back leg straight, foot flat. Bend front leg, lean forward. Hold for 15 counts, relax. Repeat 3 times per leg. To stretch achilles tendons further, bend the back leg. Stretches: Calves, achilles tendons, ankles.
- Quadriceps Stretch: With one hand on a wall for balance, reach back with the other hand and grasp one foot. Bring heel close to buttocks. Hold for 15 counts, relax. Repeat 3 times per leg. Stretches: Quadriceps, hip muscles.
- Inner Thigh Stretch: Sit with soles of feet together, knees outward. Pull feet toward groin. Hold for 15 counts, relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Quadriceps, hip muscles.
