Safety Precautions and General Information

Congratulations on your purchase of this Fenton product. Please read this manual thoroughly prior to using the unit to benefit fully from all features.

Read the manual prior to using the unit. Follow the instructions to avoid invalidating the warranty. Take all precautions to avoid fire and/or electrical shock. Repairs must only be carried out by a qualified technician.

  • To protect against fire, electric shock, or personal injury, do not immerse the cord, electric plugs, or device in water or other liquids.
  • Do not expose the appliance to extreme temperatures; use in moderate climates.
  • Use of attachments not recommended by the manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock, or personal injury.
  • Do not open the unit by removing cover parts. Do not attempt to repair the unit. Any repairs or servicing should be done by qualified personnel only.
  • The appliance is not a toy. Do not let children play with it. Never let children insert foreign objects into the appliance.
  • Never clean the surface with solvents, paint thinners, cleansers, or other chemical products. Use a soft, dry cloth or soft brush instead.
  • Keep small objects (screws, mounting material, memory cards, etc.) and packaging out of children's reach. Do not let children play with foil (choking hazard).
  • Keep the original packaging for sufficient protection during shipment or transportation.
  • Do not use volatile liquids, detergents, or the like. Use a clean, dry cloth.

The unit is CE certified. Unauthorized changes are prohibited and will invalidate the CE certificate and guarantee.

Operating Temperature: For normal operation, use the unit in rooms with temperatures between 5°C/41°F and 35°C/95°F.

Disposal: Electric products must not be disposed of with household waste. Please bring them to a recycling centre. Contact local authorities or your dealer for disposal procedures.

Warranty: Do not attempt self-repair or modification; this voids the warranty. Warranty is not applicable for accidents or damages caused by inappropriate use or disregard of warnings. Fenton is not responsible for personal injuries due to disregard of safety recommendations.

Unpacking Instructions

CAUTION! Immediately upon receiving the product, carefully unpack the carton. Check contents to ensure all parts are present and in good condition. Notify the shipper immediately and retain packing material if any parts appear damaged or the package shows signs of mishandling. Save the package and all packing materials. If the product must be returned, it is important to return it in the original factory box and packing.

If the device has been exposed to drastic temperature fluctuations (e.g., after transportation), do not switch it on immediately. Condensation may damage the device. Leave the device switched off until it reaches room temperature.

Power Supply

Connect the supplied AC adapter to the DC jack on the rear side of the unit and connect to a standard AC wall socket with 230V~50Hz continuous power supply.

Note: When the unit is not operated for long periods, unplug the AC adapter from the unit and wall outlet.

Connection Requirements:

  • Connect to the specified mains voltage. Incorrect voltage can cause irreparable damage.
  • Connect directly to the mains; do not use a dimmer or adjustable power supply.
  • Always connect the device to a protected circuit (circuit breaker or fuse).
  • Ensure the device has proper electrical grounding to avoid the risk of electrocution or fire.

Operation

Connecting to Your TV

Use the supplied color-coded RCA patch cable (white/red/yellow) to connect the device's rear terminals to your TV and/or hifi's corresponding inputs.

For CD+G song lyrics to appear on your TV screen, select the appropriate input channel (Video-In, A/V, etc.) in your TV settings or via remote control.

If your TV lacks this feature, an RF modulator (available in specialist shops) can be used between the SBS30's video out and your TV's cable antenna.

Refer to your TV's user manual for more information on connecting external video devices.

Connecting a Microphone

  1. Plug a microphone (one included) into the MIC 1 or MIC 2 JACK on the lower left side of your unit. The mic output will be mixed with the audio source from CD/CD+G/USB flash drive.
  2. Slide the microphone's ON/OFF switch to "ON" before singing and to "OFF" after use.

CAUTION: Tapping or dropping the microphone while it is on can cause permanent damage. Never grip and swing the microphone by its connecting cord.

Buttons and Functions

Function Selector CD/USB

  • Slide to "CD" to play CDs, MP3s, CD+Gs, CD-Rs/CD-RWs.
  • Slide to "USB" to play MP3 files from a USB flash drive.
  • Connecting an AUX IN cable automatically switches the unit to AUX mode. Other music sources can be connected via the AUX IN jack.

LED Show ON/OFF

  • Set to "ON" to activate the LED show.
  • Set to "OFF" to deactivate the LED show.

Power On/Off Button

  • Press to turn the unit ON.
  • Press and hold to turn the unit OFF.

Play/Pause Button ►II

  • Tap once to play a selected song from CD/CD+G/CD-R/CD-RW or USB. The PLAY/PAUSE indicator lights up.
  • Tap again while playing to pause. The PLAY/PAUSE indicator flashes.

Stop Button

  • Tap to stop the currently playing song.

Next Button

  • Tap to skip to the next song during playback or stop mode.

Prev Button

  • Tap to skip to the start of the current song during playback, or to the previous song during stop mode.

Repeat Function

  • During CD/CD+G/MP3 playback, tap once for Repeat 1 (indicator flashes) to play the current song only.
  • Tap again for Repeat All (indicator steady) to repeat all tracks on the disc.
  • Tap again to cancel Repeat mode (indicator OFF).

Program Function

This function allows music tracks to be played in a programmed sequence. It can only be set in STOP mode.

  1. Press PROGRAM once. Program Number 01 displays, and the PROGRAM indicator flashes.
  2. Use SKIP FORWARD or SKIP BACKWARD to select the track to be programmed.
  3. Press PROGRAM again to store the selection. The program number advances to 02.
  4. Repeat steps #2-#3 to program up to 20 CD or 99 MP3 tracks. "FU" indicates the program is full.
  5. Press PLAY to start programmed playback. Press STOP to stop.
  6. The REPEAT function can be used within Program Play Mode.
  7. The CD player stops after one cycle. Press PLAY/PAUSE to repeat the program.
  8. Cancel program play by pressing STOP twice or opening the CD door in stop mode.

Up to 20 CD / 99 MP3 tracks can be programmed. Attempting to program more will display "FU" and "PROG FULL" on the TV screen.

After programming, press PLAY to confirm and start. The "PROG" indicator lights up. Use NEXT/PREV to skip tracks during playback.

Temporarily stop program play by pressing STOP once. The "PROG" indicator remains ON. Press PLAY to resume.

Note: Pressing STOP twice consecutively cancels the program and permanently erases the list. The "PROG" indicator turns off. In stop mode, review the program list by pressing NEXT or PREV.

Input and Output Jacks

Inputs

  • DC JACK: Connect the supplied DC12V AC adapter.
  • USB JACK: Connect a USB flash drive (FAT32, up to 32GB) for MP3 playback.
  • AUX IN JACK: Connect a 3.5mm stereo plug from an audio cable to an external audio player.
  • MIC 1 / MIC 2 JACKS: Connect a microphone to sing.

Outputs

  • VIDEO OUT JACK: Connect the yellow RCA plug of the A/V cable to your TV's video/AV input.
  • AUDIO OUT JACKS (L/R): Connect the white (L) and red (R) RCA plugs of the A/V cable to your TV's audio inputs.
  • SPEAKER: One built-in speaker.

Karaoke Control Functions

  • MASTER VOLUME: Adjust for desired volume from the built-in speaker.
  • BALANCE CONTROL: Adjust for optimum music and vocal levels, or for left/right channel balance.
  • TALK OVER: Automatically attenuates music when you talk or sing. Sensitivity is adjustable.
  • MIC VOLUME: Adjust for desired microphone volume. Affects both Mic 1 and Mic 2 simultaneously.
  • ECHO CONTROL: Turn clockwise for a more significant echo effect.

Music Playback via CD+G, USB and AUX-IN

Getting Started

  • Connect your unit to a compatible TV using the included A/V cable.
  • Plug in the microphone into MIC 1 or MIC 2. Note: Always set the mic to OFF until ready to sing to avoid feedback.

Singing Along with CD+G, CD, CD-R/CD-RW or USB Flash Drive

  1. Set the FUNCTION selector to "CD".
  2. Load a CD/CD+G disc: Gently pull the CD door open. Insert the disc vertically (printed side up). Close the door. The unit reads the disc.
  3. The LED display shows the total number of tracks. "No" appears if no disc is loaded or recognized. The CDG indicator lights up for CD+G discs.
  4. Press PLAY/PAUSE to play the disc. For CD+G tracks, lyrics appear on the TV screen.

Note: If playing self-compiled CD-R/RW discs or USB flash drives with MP3 songs, a different menu will appear.

The top menu line shows track information (e.g., "T: 011/118" means track 11 of 118 is playing). Elapsed time is shown on the right.

For discs/USB drives with over 99 tracks, track numbers may use letters (A-F) or display "99" if over 159 tracks. TV connection shows full content.

BT Operation

Slide the FUNCTION SELECTOR to CD. Press and hold the STOP/BT button to enter BT mode ("bt" flashes). Turn on BT on your device to pair. Enter "0000" if a password is required. "bt" stops flashing when paired successfully.

Important Hints on Playing CDs

  • CD mechanisms are designed for commercial CDs and also read self-compiled CD-R/CD-RW discs (playback may take up to 10 seconds). Manufacturer is not responsible for CD-R/RW playback quality.
  • Do not apply excessive force or press the CD door while playing.
  • Never place anything other than a compact disc in the disc compartment. Foreign objects can damage the unit.
  • Load only one disc at a time.

Singing Along from Aux Input Sources

Connect your external device's headphone jack to the unit's AUX IN jack. The unit automatically enters AUX mode.

Connect the line out or headphone jack of your external audio device (CD player, MP3 player, iPhone, iPod, etc.) to the unit using a suitable audio cable.

Select your favorite song on the external device and adjust its output volume if necessary.

Turn on your microphone and sing. Adjust MASTER VOLUME and/or MIC VOLUME. Use BALANCE and ECHO controls for enhancement. Turn off devices after use.

Note: Disconnect the AUX IN cable after use to listen to CD or USB input again.

Using the Unit as a Public Address System

The unit can also be used as a PA system. Keep the microphone away from the speaker to prevent feedback or whistling.

  1. With the unit stopped in CD or USB mode, unplug any 3.5mm audio cable from the AUX IN JACK.
  2. Turn on your microphone and start performing. Adjust MASTER VOLUME, MIC VOLUME, and ECHO control as needed.

LED Light Show

LED lights inside the speaker and in the lower corners react automatically to the music being played.

  • Set the Light Show control to "ON" to activate.
  • Set the Light Show control to "OFF" to deactivate.
