Assembly Instructions for Designer Radiators

Introduction

Please read these instructions carefully before starting assembly.

The radiator must be installed by a qualified plumber or another competent specialist. Note that the dimensions and panel/pipe layout of the radiator may differ from the respective illustrations.

Do not dispose of the packaging until you have secured small parts such as wall brackets and mounting accessories. Protective clothing such as gloves and reinforced work shoes are recommended for assembly.

Required Tools

The following tools are required but not included in the delivery:

  • Phillips screwdriver: A cross-head screwdriver.
  • Flat screwdriver: A flat-head screwdriver.
  • Tape measure: A retractable measuring tape.
  • Wrench: An adjustable wrench or spanner.
  • Drill bit: A metal drill bit suitable for wall material.
  • Drilling machine: An electric drill.

Product Information

1. Determination and Scope of Use

The radiators are designed for use in a closed central heating system.

2. Maximum Operating Pressure

Please note the maximum operating pressure specified in the assembly dimension table. Exceeding this level can damage the radiator and void the warranty.

3. Scope of Delivery of a Standard Packaging

  • 1 pc. radiator
  • 1 pc. Air vent (A): A small cylindrical fitting with a cap, used for bleeding air.
  • 1 pc. Blanking plug (B): A screw-in plug to seal unused openings.
  • 4 pcs. Masonry wall plug (C): Plastic anchors for securing the radiator to solid masonry walls.
  • 4 pcs. Screws (D): Metal screws for mounting.
  • 4 pcs. Washers (E): Flat metal rings used with screws.
  • 4 pcs. Wall bracket: Brackets for mounting the radiator to the wall.

General Assembly Instructions

  1. Check the contents of the packaging for completeness.
  2. Make sure you have the appropriate connection fitting for your plumbing system.
  3. Before drilling, ensure there are no hidden water, electric, or gas lines behind the wall.
  4. The distance between the floor and the bottom of the radiator should be at least 150 mm to ensure efficient heating and ventilation.
  5. Prepare the necessary tools before starting and ensure a clean, dry environment for assembly.
  6. Confirm you are using the correct type of wall fixing. The supplied wall plugs are suitable only for solid masonry; obtain appropriate fixings for other wall types.
  7. Note that the specified dimensions are for the main mounting holes on the brackets; some brackets may require a second fixing hole.

Typical Connection Options and Assembly Diagrams

Typical Connection Options

Various connection schemes are illustrated for vertical and horizontal tube radiators, as well as panel and profile radiators. These include standard connections, offset or standard center connections, and side connections, indicated by 'V' for valve and 'R' for return.

Assembly Diagrams

Diagram 1: For radiators where brackets are positioned between the cross tubes. This shows a vertical radiator with dimensions B (width), X (horizontal drill hole spacing), Y (vertical drill hole spacing), and H (height). The bracket attachment points on the radiator and wall are depicted, along with floor clearance.

Diagram 2: For radiators where brackets are positioned on the manifold. Similar to Diagram 1, this illustrates a vertical radiator with dimensions B, X, Y, H, showing brackets attached to the radiator's side manifold pipes.

Diagram 3: For radiators mounted with a bracket on the fixed bracket on the back. This diagram shows both vertical and horizontal radiator orientations, detailing bracket placement on the rear of the radiator and wall mounting points with dimensions X, Y, B, H.

Diagram 4: For radiators mounted on fixed pins with mounting sleeves. This illustrates both vertical and horizontal radiators, showing how they are attached to the wall using pins and sleeves, with dimensions X, Y, B, H indicated.

Detailed Assembly Instructions

  1. If using the supplied masonry wall plugs, drill 4 holes using the dimensions from the assembly table. The holes should be approximately 60 mm deep with a diameter of 8 mm.
  2. Insert the wall plugs (C) into the drilled holes, ensuring they are only used in solid walls.
  3. Attach the bracket to the wall using the screw (D) and washer (E). Be careful not to overtighten the screw.
  4. Some radiators are fitted with a baffle, indicated by a sticker. For correct installation, the baffle should be at the bottom of the horizontal tubes. If both horizontal tubes are clear, the baffle is not required, and installation direction is universal.
  5. Hang the radiator securely on the bracket.
  6. Mount the supplied air valve (A) and the blanking plug (B) into the upper threaded openings of the radiator.
  7. Connect the flow and return pipes using radiator valves (not included). Seal all connections watertight, preferably using PTFE tape or a similar sealing product. Leaks due to incorrect sealing are not covered under warranty.
  8. First Fill and Vent the Radiator:
    • Open the air vent.
    • Slightly open the inlet valve (approx. 10%), keeping the outlet valve fully closed.
    • Allow the system to fill the radiator slowly. Filling without the heating pump is recommended.
    • Once the radiator is filled, close the air vent.
    • Open both inlet and outlet valves fully and run the heating system for about 2 hours.
    • Close both inlet and outlet valves.
    • Open the air vent to release any trapped air. This should clear the radiator. If problems persist, an automatic air vent may be necessary for some systems.

Care and Use

  • After installation, ensure the system has been thoroughly rinsed to remove metal, flux, and debris. The system must also be completely vented.
  • To prevent internal rust and limescale formation, add a suitable inhibitor to the central heating system when filling.
  • Clean the radiator with a soft, damp cloth. Never use scouring pads, harsh scouring agents, or chemical cleaning agents.

Troubleshooting

General

  • Uneven Heating: If some pipes are not warm, vent the radiator again. If tubes remain cold, the radiator may have been filled too quickly. Try running it independently to force air out. If this fails, drain and refill slowly.
  • Patchy Heat or Slow Heating: The radiator might be fitted upside down. To check, lock off the radiator valves, drain water from the air valve until the top tube is empty, and remove the air valve and blanking nut. The tube should be clear. If a baffle is visible, it's installed incorrectly. If fitted correctly, the heating system may need rebalancing.

Electric Radiators

  • It is normal to see a small amount of water discharge from the pressure valve on first use. All panels should heat up shortly after.
  • If heating remains uneven, the radiator may need topping up. Place the radiator on its side, undo the top side nut, top up with normal water, and replace the nut.
