Assembly Instructions for Designer Radiators

Please read the instructions carefully before starting assembly.

Important Safety and Preparation Notes

  • The radiator must be installed by a qualified plumber or another competent specialist.
  • Note that the dimensions and panel/pipe layout of the radiator may differ from the respective illustrations.
  • Do not dispose of the packaging until you have secured small parts such as wall brackets and mounting accessories.
  • It is recommended to wear suitable protective clothing such as gloves and reinforced work shoes for assembly.

Required Tools

The following tools are required but not included in the delivery:

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flat screwdriver
  • Tape measure
  • Wrench
  • Drill bit
  • Drilling machine

Product Scope and Specifications

  1. Determination and Scope of Use: The radiators are designed for use in a closed central heating system.
  2. Maximum Operating Pressure: Please refer to the assembly dimension table for the maximum operating pressure. Exceeding this level can damage the radiator and void the warranty.

Scope of Delivery

A standard packaging typically includes:

  • 1 pc. Radiator
  • 1 pc. Air vent (A)
  • 1 pc. Blanking plug (B)
  • 4 pcs. Masonry wall plugs (C)
  • 4 pcs. Screws (D)
  • 4 pcs. Washers (E)
  • 4 pcs. Wall brackets

General Assembly Instructions

  • Check the contents of the packaging for completeness.
  • Ensure you have the appropriate connection fitting.
  • Before drilling, verify there are no hidden water, electric, or gas lines behind the wall.
  • The distance between the floor and the bottom of the radiator should be at least 150 mm to ensure efficient heating and ventilation.
  • Prepare necessary tools and ensure a clean, dry environment for assembly.
  • Verify you are using the correct type of wall for mounting. The supplied wall plugs are suitable only for solid masonry; obtain correct fixings for other wall types.
  • Specified dimensions are for main mounting holes; some brackets may require a second fixing hole.

Typical Connection Options and Assembly Diagrams

Various connection options are available for vertical and horizontal tube radiators, as well as panel and profile radiators. These include standard connections, offset center connections, and side connections.

Assembly diagrams illustrate different mounting methods:

  • Diagram 1: For radiators where brackets are positioned between the cross tubes.
  • Diagram 2: For radiators where brackets are positioned on the manifold.
  • Diagram 3: For radiators mounted with a bracket on the fixed back. This applies to both vertical and horizontal orientations.
  • Diagram 4: For radiators mounted on fixed pins with mounting sleeves.

Detailed Assembly Steps

  1. Drilling and Wall Fixings: If using supplied masonry wall plugs, drill 4 holes with a depth of approximately 60 mm and a diameter of 8 mm, following dimensions from the assembly table. Place wall plugs (C) into drilled holes (only in solid walls).
  2. Bracket Attachment: Attach screws (D) and washers (E) to the brackets for wall fixing. Be careful not to overtighten the screws.
  3. Baffle Orientation: Some radiators have a baffle. Check for a sticker indicating the correct orientation. The baffle should be at the bottom when viewed inside the horizontal tubes. If both horizontal tubes are clear, installation direction is universal.
  4. Hanging the Radiator: Hang the radiator onto the mounted brackets.
  5. Mounting Valves: Mount the supplied air valve (A) and blanking plug (B) into the upper threaded openings of the radiator.
  6. Connecting Valves: Connect the flow and return pipes using radiator valves (not included). Seal threads watertight, preferably using PTFE tape or similar sealing product. Leaks due to incorrect sealing are not covered by warranty.

First Fill and Venting Procedure

  1. Open the air vent.
  2. Slightly open the inlet valve (approx. 10%), keeping the outlet valve fully closed.
  3. Allow the system to fill the radiator slowly. Filling without the heating pump is recommended.
  4. Once the radiator is filled, close the air vent.
  5. Open both inlet and outlet valves fully and run the heating system for approximately 2 hours.
  6. Close both inlet and outlet valves.
  7. Open the air vent to release any remaining air. This should clear all air. If problems persist, an automatic air vent may be necessary for some systems.

Care and Use

  • After installation, ensure the system is thoroughly rinsed to remove metal, flux, and debris. The system must also be completely vented.
  • To prevent internal rust and limescale formation, add a suitable inhibitor to the central heating system when filling.
  • Clean the radiator with a soft, damp cloth. Never use scouring pads, abrasive agents, or chemical cleaning agents.

Troubleshooting

  • Uneven Heating or Cold Pipes: Check and vent the radiator again. If tubes remain cold, the radiator may have been filled too quickly. Try running it to force air out. If unsuccessful, drain and refill slowly.
  • Patchy Heat or Slow Heating: The radiator might be fitted upside down. To check, lock off the radiator on both valves, drain water from the air valve until the top tube is empty, and remove the air valve and blanking nut. The tube should be clear. If a baffle is visible, it's installed incorrectly. If correctly installed, rebalancing the heating system may be necessary.
  • Electric Radiators: A small amount of water discharge from the pressure valve on first use is normal. After a short time, panels should heat up. If not, top up the radiator by placing it on its side, undoing the top side nut, filling with normal water, and replacing the nut.

Installation Dimension Tables Summary

The original document includes detailed installation dimension tables for various bathroom radiators and room heaters. These tables provide specific measurements such as drill hole spacing (horizontal 'X' and vertical 'Y'), hub spacing (NA), connection types, maximum operating pressure, and corresponding assembly diagrams for numerous models (e.g., PU/MT/P20, SHW/HW/OX, SAUR/CH/TR, etc.). Due to the extensive nature of these tables, they are summarized here, but users should refer to the original document for precise specifications for their specific radiator model.
